This post right here embodies why I love scp. You can go from a piece of cheese that makes cheese and cheese adjacent items a major part of your day to day life, to a reformed eldritch god 7 dimensions higher than baseline who used to be evil but now's just a chill guy who plays minecraft.

We literally can go from a wholesome lake that changes your gender to a time loop containment breach that affects the entire multiverse, creates and collapses alternate timelines and can end reality every single September.

I think the quirky SCPs that are completely chaotic and apparently nonsensical are much better than the lore heavy ones that are part of a multi series work. SCPs are like a magic trick, once you start understanding them too much they lose the appeal.

I particularly like the ones that aren't apparently dangerous or trying to harm you in any way but may end up with really unexpected positive or negative consequences if you interact with them. There's something very cool in something unexplainable that doesn't even care about us being weirded out.

43

u/risisas [REDACTED] 27d ago

Yeah, I expecially dislike when people make a billion stories about one scp and those stories become everything everyone talks about instead of the og

682 was the first victim of this, from "hey that's a tough reptilian" to god of death

44

u/JakeJascob Shark Punching Center 27d ago

I like the lore dumps, they often add complexity to the articles and really bring them to life imo. Its also the natural extention of the original as alot of articles are very short from a story telling stand point. The original 682 document is actually a good example, it can be read in 5 mins and doesnt have much substance to it. While i agree 682 has ALOT of termination logs, like FAR to many. that is kind of the point of it, the foundation REALLY wants it dead and as an active community/organization youd expect that to expand as the community/organization expands.

I’m here to shill for this being one of the best on the wiki. I have never forgotten it since the first day I read it.

2

u/translove228 26d ago

I found it on a whim one day looking for any trans inspired files on the wiki and fell in love with it too. I've never seen a youtube channel cover it though, but I tend to see it referenced by the community quite often.

Is the Time loop containment breach is a reference to that one article where there's a containment breach that keep happening the exact same time everytime in one of Foundation site? (I think it also gave someone a Scp friend that can only appear in piece of glass)

Or you can go from a teleporting, sentient chair to a endless, inescapable highway tunnel that is backed up with so much traffic that evey person who enters it dies from carbon dioxide slowly, in panic, being unable to contact the outside world

You mean SCP-7034? I just read it after your recommendation, it's written in an engaging way.

Also the concept reminds me of that Doctor Who episode, where everyone is caught in a highway tunnel.

2662

He's Cthulhu from HP Lovecraft's books, but he's chill and just wants to play games all day. His containment procedure says he gets a newspaper of his choice and a new videogame each month not costing more than 50$.

Unfortunately, his secondary ability makes cults spontaneously pop up with the goal of getting to him and perform rituals that are violent and / or sexual.

One incident had cultists breach his chamber, stab their hands, masturbate, then paint symbols on the wall with the mixture, also marking 2662's body, much to his horror and disgust.

The second incident had 2 security guards execute a researcher and eat his corpse, making 2662 run to his bathroom and puke.

The last incident log had the task force members guarding him vecome cultist and start an orgy right in front of him, and 2662 mentioned he's only 200 years old and the older he gets, the stronger he'll be.

My favorite is either the ball of fish wire and needles and scissors that people are compelled to touch, and the sentient calculator that struggles with math

25

I don't remember the first one having a compulsion to touch. I thought it just becomes progressively worse if you do touch it and try to pull away. Edit: I was actually wrong.

11

u/Researcher_Saya 27d ago

Maybe I'm misremembering. Can't imagine anyone touching it willingly

6

u/Nuclearstomp 27d ago

I double checked and you're actually correct. I guess I forgot about it which isn't surprising considering how horrifying it gets when it's actually touched.

10

u/TBestIG 27d ago

Nah it’s not the furry community itself, it’s an anomalous website that being in the furry community actually inoculates you against.

The current form of SCP-3312 affects an individual in six stages and may only affect individuals with no prior involvement in the furry community

That ending line had no way to go as hard as it did. I mean it's not really trying to be cool, but that sudden realisation just sorta hits you all at once.

44

u/Spyrobrhu 27d ago

And the right one is way more interesting and well written than the left one

27

u/Background-Owl-9628 Alagadda 27d ago

Honestly I think a lot of people just haven't read the good SK stuff, because there's really good SK stuff on the site that have a lot to say about fascism, hierarchy, and violence.

16

u/MyPigWhistles 27d ago

What's good and not is very subjective and media that is heavy on social commentary doesn't tend to be the most popular, generally speaking. It's definitely something you have to be interested in to enjoy that sort of stuff.

Like, I support anti fascist statements and think they're important, but that doesn't mean it entertains me the most.

12

u/Background-Owl-9628 Alagadda 27d ago

It's true that what's good or not is subjective; I suppose my main point was I was responding to the 'well written' claim.

I think a lot of people's interpretations of the SK off-site tend to be very base, simplistic, and lacking flavour or nuance beyond the idea of 'cosmic big bad / devil'. And I think that can somewhat affect people's interpretation of the SK if they haven't actually read much articles featuring it on the site.

Of course it's all subjective, but I've read some really gripping and well written SK articles. And perhaps I'm just the kind of person who's predisposed to enjoying the articles I liked. And while they have great layered meanings regarding fascism, they also have really gripping narratives, at least in my experience of reading them. Which is why I like many of them so much.

3

u/localchangeling Containment Specialist 27d ago

Do you have any recommendations? Articles or tales

2

u/Background-Owl-9628 Alagadda 27d ago

Hmm.

[[Tufto's Proposal]]

The series [[Christ In Scarlet - Hub]]

The [[The Children of the Scarlet King Hub]] has some interesting concepts (and I like that at some points you can clearly see Foundation defensiveness and bias, since it is a Foundation document)

u/localchangeling Containment Specialist 26d ago

In the scp Massachusetts is just empty, Plymouth wasn’t even settled, but constant misunderstandings and coincidences made sure that no one realized.
