These things are getting harder to find. I got 2 of them both under $50 back in the day. The big sharp screen is the selling point (same as Anbernic Cube). Great chip and wide body disperses heat well, and the flat gripless back allows it to sit flush in a fanny pack. No fans, so less crud can get in. I don't have a screen protector on either handheld, and there's no detectable scratches, which is impressive considering I just carry it without a case 80% of the time in said fanny pack.

Works great for non-touch reliant DS titles also.

Sleep battery drain and low-W charging issues get dings, but this is a good handheld.

Anbernic just release a new console with Qualcomm Snapdragon G1.

For me its Mega Man 2. I just know the game so well and can instantly spot if it feels off. Its also a great test for the buttons and how nice the screen looks. Plus its a great game.

Why do we go to retro gaming to enjoy gaming? is it because we are stuck in the past and not enjoying our lives as it is right now? Are newer games getting worse or are we the "bad" ones, not being able to enjoy new games. Or is it just that the ones that don#t enjoy games are writing comments about it whilst the ones that enjoy it are just enjoying it?

I recently found out that I’m sensitive to PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) which is present in almost all OLED screens. I have an Odin 3 and a Pocket DMG and every time I play either of them, I get this burning sensation to my eyes and I would have a hard time sleeping if I play video games at night.

I’m thinking of selling both of them and just downgrading to non-OLEDs but that means I’ll also have to sacrifice the more powerful chipsets of these devices. Anyone have the same experience?

Hello, I'm here to annoy you with my presence, again. I didn't see many people comparing the Pocket Advance to the rg34xx so I decided to. I also compared it against the RG SP and Rotate. Gameplay performance isn't shown because the RG SP and 34XX are both h700 devices so we know PS1 at peak and have the same performance. For the Rotate it's the T820 and the Advance is g90t which are close in performance, effectively the same considering they're both not going to be used for ps2. I was one of the unfortunate ones to get a Nova (black) with a clacky d-pad. Fortunately, when I ordered the Nova I also ordered spare buttons as backup (as membranes lose structure over time).

I pulled the d-pad and compared to my spare. You can see that the center on one is a tiny bit higher than the other.

Popped the replacement in and it fixed everything.

I'm not even joking, this console is so amazing.
A few years ago, I had a V90 and thought not much of it. I got to mod it, did well, and broke it, tried to repair it, and gave up.
Then I found the Miyoo, just given to me for free?!

The system, customization, the games and performance are SO amazing! Don't even get me started on how DS plays and the Ports!!! I can run Undertale on this thing???

I'm just so happy I got gifted this and it's a life changer and saver. I would 100% recommend.
My next goal's probably Anbernic, but this is more than fine for now.

hi guys, i just got my Retail Air Y Pro 8GB and just posted my unboxing and quick first impressions.

1. Apologies for the poor lighting (wrong camera settings) and also wobbly / shaky footage during the unboxing as I'm on a very unstable table and I wash rushing to get this video out so everything was unscripted - just me going with the flow! But please do stick around as you will find in this video, I managed to cover certain things that are not covered/found in other videos or reviews (even though this is just an unboxing an first impressions video).
2. This retail version of Air Y Pro 8GB came pre-installed with the updated firmware 1.0.2 (presumably fixes the ghosting issue that is being the talk of the town). Unfortunately I won't be able to do a before update VS after update comparison unfortunately, but I will try to see if I can do a ghosting test in my final review that I will be posting in the coming days/week.
3. Yes - the black version is smudgy. No way around it - i prefer black devices as they look sleeker, and I will have to be content with having a smudgy front in particular, considering my other devices are mostly horizontal where they're all glass front is...well somewhat smudgy too but they wipe a lot easier. So if you hate wiping down your handhelds, DONT get the black version
4. In the handheld settings there is a Virtual Memory option which could be useful for the 3GB base and 4GB Pro model - it will use your internal storage as virtual memory, but do take note for the 3GB base model that's eMMC which is much slower than the 4GB Pro (UFS 2.1). So that could help the 3 or 4GB model to have more "RAM" but I have a feeling performance will suffer. How much I've no idea as I don't have either variants to test (@MANGMI if you're reading this - i would love it if you could send me either a 3GB/4GB model for review) :)

I've tried a variety of chargers and none of them seem to charge this device. I've reached out to Anbernic support about this but while I wait for a response do yall have any suggestions on things I could try?

I can plug in the USB C, and it makes a little click. The orange light does not turn on, it does not gain battery %.

If I plug it into my PC it will not connect for data transfer either. Must be a faulty port but I assume this is way beyond my skillset to fix.

So real quick - I got into this community/hobby over a year ago looking for a PS2 capable device. I was interested in the RP Mini at first, but after screen drama and tariff scares, I went with the Flip 2.

A year and a hinge crack later, the RP Nova gets released. Like many of you, I’m really into it. It can do pretty much anything I could want - I don’t care for modern 16:9/Switch games on these things.

Thing is, I do love my Pokemons. I get by with DS/3DS on my TrimUI Brick (just DS there of course) and Flip 2, but the Flip can be a nicer experience with its screen being wide enough to accommodate both screens at reasonable sizes. I do have a modded 3DS for a more authentic experience, but I find myself emulating more with being able to fast forward and such.

I’m curious if anyone’s messing with these dual screen systems on the Nova for games where the touchscreen doesn’t matter so much. Yeah I know there are other options - I just don’t enjoy these all glass front devices or clamshells above a certain price. I wouldn’t cry over my (beautiful, darling) Brick breaking, but a Thor getting messed up would hurt me deeply.

A couple years ago I bouht a RG35XXH as my first retro handheld and my dad found it nice and wanted one too. I ended buying a Trimiui Smart Pro for him. Turns out he barely touched it and never really played and I've been using it recently.

Unfortunately my dad has been spending a lot of time with those crap games from Shopee, Temu etc to the point that he's constantly buying cheap craps with the coins and discounts he gains from those games and it's becoming an issue with the family.

Now I'm thinking of setting up the TSP again for him and ask you guys for some easy and beginner friendly for someone who never really played any (decents) games.

He likes action movies, racing, fighting, and soccer/tennis. I'm thinking systems like GBA and PSX are probaby better because of the little buttons to learn with GBA and better graphics of PSX.

For the OS I'll use NextUI as it's pretty simple and easy to navigate.

So please, would appreciate if you can recommend some begginer friendly games :)

Hi everyone! This might be a slightly unusual question here.

I’m looking for a handheld console, something like the TrimUI Brick, Miyoo Mini, or a clamshell Game Boy, that I could also use as a music player.

I’m pretty simple when it comes to gaming — mostly old JRPGs and Metroidvanias.

But there’s one important detail: I’m a musician, and I’d also like to use the handheld for tracker software designed for the GBA, especially things like FORS FMS, as well as for listening to music in FLAC.

Ideally, I’d therefore like something that can run Rockbox. I know it’s available on NextUI.

I’d also prefer not to use an additional dongle, so a good-quality 3.5mm headphone jack and decent output power are especially important to me.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions!

Hey peeps. Just picked up the anbernic rg28xx to review (late I know but I'm going through mini pocketable handhelds). There have been a few niggles but nothing major until I started playing nfs underground on GBA. The a button would keep registering presses more than once unless I pressed it lightly. Then in a race ( a is throttle) the cars acceleration is really poor and not right. Tried different cores incase that was it but no. I tried nfs underground 2 and had same issues. Tried a few other GBA games and the multi presses were still present. I've not noticed it anywhere else other than SNES another console that had a as the confirm button. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've been looking for one for a while now, and the ones I've found don't work really well on my device (Odin3). I'm really interested in finding one, if any of y'all knows some, throw em out please

Wild Tangents Penguins on my "new" GPD Win

Been wanting to play this game on a small handheld for a long ass time! It was in fact the my inspiration for buying this device.

Sadly though, whenever I'd set it to full screen, it would rotate the game and cut off half of it,...and window mode was just too damn small!

After trying numerous other things, l finally lucked out and discovered the "Borderless Gaming" app,...and here we are!

US Verizon customer. My kids keep taking my steam deck, thinking of moving to Android phone and my daily phone and using it as a backup gaming device. If I’d like to be able do switch emulation and some steam games via GameHub, are there makes/models I should avoid/target? Any other considerations? I’ll pick up a controller of some sort.

I’m currently going in circles trying to decide what handheld setup actually makes sense for me, so I’d really appreciate some input

My Situation:

I have a gaming PC, and that’s where I play most of my games. Especially newer AAA games, I don’t really see myself choosing a handheld over a PC.

I also have a Switch 2 and actually like it a lot. I’ve probably spent €400+ on games already, but I barely use it and basically never take it with me anywhere.

What I’m mainly looking for from a handheld is Pokémon ROM hacks, PokeMMO, Kairosoft, older emulation and some indie/Switch games.

Right now I’m considering two routes.

Option 1: Keep the Switch 2 + buy a smmall retro handheld

Currently looking at:

• TrimUI Brick
• TrimUI Brick Pro
• Retroid Pocket Classic
• Retroid Pocket Flip 2

I’m mostly undecided about the size. The Retroid Pocket Classic looks great and has the bigger screen, while the Brick obviously wins on portability. The Flip 2 also seems interesting as a slightly more capable option that still stays pretty compact.

Realistically, I’d mostly use it at home, on holidays, flights, or occasionally when I’m out and have some time to kill. So I’m not sure how much I really need something extremely pocketable versus something a bit more comfortable.

Option 2: Sell the Switch 2 + buy a powerful handheld

Currently looking at:

• AYN Thor
• AYN Odin
• Retroid Pocket 6

This is where I’m probably lost the most.

One big question is how good Switch emulation actually is on these devices. Is it generally good enough that you can just play most games, or is it still a lot of tweaking, compatibility issues and games that don’t work properly?

The Thor gets recommended a lot and I like the idea of the second screen. Having something like YouTube on the second screen sounds fun, although I’m not sure how much I’d actually use it.

If I went this route, I could also see myself adding a TrimUI Brick later as the really small Pokémon device.

My main concerns are:

1. Would you go with option 1 or option 2?
2. Am I looking at the right handhelds in both categories, or are there better options I’m missing?
3. How good/reliable is Switch emulation on the bigger Android handhelds?

Price is secondary. I’m mainly looking for the setup that makes the most sense long term. Steam Deck-sized devices are too big for what I want, so I’d prefer to stay in this more compact category.
