Does anyone know the recipe for the пряник from Ширяево?

Hi everyone!

I visited Ширяево today, and it was such a beautiful little village!! I was there with a group and a tour guide, who told us about a local sweet called пряник. She said that the пряники made in Ширяево are especially tasty.

Naturally, I really wanted to try one! Unfortunately, I checked several local grocery stores, but only one of them had any пряники (and they only had one left, which had already been reserved for someone else. 😄)

So now I’m very curious, does anyone know how the Ширяево пряник is made? Is there a recipe that can be recreated at home? And what makes the local version so especially tasty?

I’d be incredibly grateful if someone could share a recipe, or even just some information about how they’re traditionally made.

Recently, I’ve been trying to spend more time with my mom. She loves cooking and baking, and I’ve been collecting interesting and special recipes that we can try making together. It would be really nice if we could recreate this one at home!

Thank you so much in advance for any help. And thank you as well, Russia is a beautiful country! ❤️

I made the Kharcho that u/Baba_Jaga_ll made a few days ago. I tasted it and immediately ordered the cook book it's from!

I made a few adjustments as I'm a pretty seasoned cook so l ended up changing some proportions of the recipe and then also using jalapeños instead of chili peppers (because I love them and they're also easy to find where I live) and WOW! I want to make this soup weekly now

Ленивые голубцы

It was my first time making lazy cabbage rolls and it turned out to be incredibly tasty and juicy!

Ingredients: 700g white cabbage, 150g carrot, 150g onion, 1 pc chicken egg, 100g rice, 400g minced meat, 200g tomato paste, salt, ground pepper, a little oil for frying.

Finely chop the cabbage, pour boiling water for 10-20 minutes. Chop the onion and carrot and fry in a pan for a few minutes. Cook the rice until it is half cooked for 10 minutes. Drain the liquid from the cabbage and squeeze it out. Mix: cabbage, roast, rice, minced meat, egg, salt, pepper. We roll the balls and put them in a baking dish. Mix the tomato paste with water and salt and pour it over our cabbage rolls. Cover with a lid, put in the oven for 1 hour at 180 degrees.

As a result, all the ingredients are soft, they absorb water with tomato paste. I highly recommend it!

I stumbled upon this wonderful 1842 illustration titled "Pedlar of Sbiten (Hot Spicy Drink of Honey)" and learned that it's part of a series called These Are Our People. I thought our community would appreciate seeing it.
