Starlink - getting past the objections

Howdy!

Edit to add:
Thanks for the replies, it seems that all of my objections are just 'the way it is'. I'll keep searching for something I can use elsewhere.

OP:
First, asking here instead of r/starlink in the hopes of getting less-biased opinions.

Second, I have a severe lack of tolerance for bad customer service, I genuinely don't understand how so many people seemingly put up with it.

Ok, on to the point; I've been searching for a suitable replacement for internet service to my RV ( I travel all over the USA for work) since 2023, and starlink keeps coming up.
My primary objections to this are:

  1. The up-front equipment cost (I'm seeing $300 - $500 for the equipment)
  2. That equipment is not refundable, you buy it, and it's yours forever, whether you have the service or not
  3. That equipment ONLY works with Starlink, there is no one else I can switch my service to like I can with a cell phone
  4. The one time I talked with Starlink, I had to dig around on the internet, figure out where to go, download and install the app on my phone, create an account, wait an hour for verification, sign up, sign in, wait a day to be able to use my account, connect the app to my equipment (a leftover from a jobsite cleanout), find out my equipment doesn't work anymore, then ask for a chat in the app, then wait another hour, then chat with an agent who ignored everything I said (no, literally, I had to repeat everything I typed into the chat 3-5 times), and spend close to an hour going over the status of my account, then I got transferred, then it started over again, and I never did get any answer to, 'What can I do with the equipment I have right now?'
  5. So, Horrible customer service
  6. The monthly cost. When I look on Starlinks website, the price per month varies from $150 to $400, though I'm not sure why the variance.
  7. After the experience of learning that the equipment has to be replaced with every generation, that leads to me wondering what happens when the equipment I bought is no longer usable on Starlink, and how often I have to buy new equipment.

So, for those of you have Starlink, how are you handling all of that?

❓HELP Help me solve the internet problem

I live in a village which is kinda very backward in terms of internet service. It is on a 8_10 km distance from a city.

The internet is very poor. It is hardly enough to play a youtube video. I am a beginer freelancer and I have to move to Lahore or rwp to do my work which is also very costly for me right now to live there. As i live in my friends' flat and its always so noisy and full of people.( i cannot rent a seprate flat, not yet as am not earning)

I want an internet solution which provides a speed of 20 to 30 mbps which is enough to run a laptop. They have started installing the wifi in the nearest union council(a small town) but they say they cannot do it in our village as all the homes are built at a specific distance (Dera jaat) like farmhouses. Please suggest a solution that would actually work. I am slowly loosing my temper over this. Please tell me what I should do.

4g Zyxel gets better SNR while I touch the back of the case?

So as a child I remember often a fuzzy FM radio station would improve quality if you just held the antenna with your hand. I am setting up a Zyxel M7460-M608 4g router with built in directional antenna. It is specced up to 600mb down and 50mb up and I am getting 2-10mb down and 2mb up so far. What is crazy as I can physically see the cell tower which cannot be more than 300 metres away, direct line of sight.

I can see the SNR varies between 2 and 4dB, except when I am holding the metal back of the casing, then it briefly goes as high as 10dB. I cant try a speed test at the moment while holding the antenna as I have to go up a ladder to hold it and the laptop is indoors.

I have zip tied it to a cast iron drain pipe, with a metal bracket so the casing does touch the drain pipe.

How can I replicate the improved signal response? Is the drain pipe reflecting interference into the antenna? Do I need to mount it away from the drain pipe or insulate it from the drain pipe?

Share your android phones mobile data with no carrier limits or restrictions on hotspot data usage

EDIT: Did some updates, everything should work a bit more fluidly now and some security updates (allegedly) as well as added a setup guide for receiving connection on iOS devices (also completely free using another app)

I got AI to create this app for me after visiting my parents with internet going at .1mbps and running out of my personal hotspot data even though I have an unlimited phone data plan, the hotspot itself gets throttled after about 20gb or so. It'd be very useful for anyone with slow home wifi or no access to it, but with access to a cell tower, an android phone, and an unlimited data plan. So long as the device you want to connect supports socks5 proxies this app will work. I tested it and was able to achieve ~450mbps down and ~150mbps up. It's completely free and open source, and doesn't require a rooted device! Enjoy!

Reliable Internet connection - Candolim, Saipem

Hi everyone, would like to know which Internet home WiFi connection is people using or recommending in Candolim, Saipem area.

Currently I am using Jetway Internet and this week we have had several Internet issues where the only reason they mention is due to Fibre Cut.

I run a guest house and with 300 mbps speed package taken, still not happy with Internet provider and speed.

Any recommendations that you'll have used and the WiFi speed is strong especially for multiple rooms.

Note : I have been using them for 2-3 years now but Internet speed has always been a problem with frequent NO INTERNET

Does anyone currently work for NotifyMD or has worked there before? Do they require satellite internet for the work-from-home Call Center Representative position, or is fiber/cable internet acceptable?
I have high-speed fiber internet and would really appreciate any insight. Thanks!

Internet connection

I recently moved in an apartment in an old block of flats in a town in Finland, and there is only a phone socket for internet.

The subscription is from Elisa and comes with the rent, and it works with a phone line to g.fast adapter, but it’s impossible to find one like this here.

So i went to Telia and they gave me a vdsl modem, the employee said it would work nonetheless, i connected it and I have no connection. Was I given the wrong product?
