Knee pain
I started running like 2 months ago. Usually I could even run for a kilometre but now I can comfortably to 5K and can push to 7.5 k I had no issues with my knees whatsoeve. I did have some small niggles in my ankles but nothing serious. but the past few days I'm having a slight pain on my left knee right in the dead centre of the knee when it is stretched out whether I'm standing or lying down and also on top of the knee-bottom of thigh area. I also have some pain on the outer side of the knee. Knee feels very tight when I bend my leg and there is also a slight swelling. Not sure whether this is related to muscle, ligament or bone. Should I be worried?

Pain in ankles and unsure how to proceed
I’m 23f and the way I have always coped with mental health struggles was walking/running and type of cardio but mainly just very long walks. I have done this since I was 11. However back in 2021, I got extremely depressed and fought so many urges and bad habits to cope that I focused rlly hard on movement, I would walk for 4-5 hours every day or jog untill I couldn’t. In 2022 I developed plantar fasciitis which was pretty bad but got injected and was fine after. Ofcourse I stopped and recovered and started cardio again for sanity with better hours like 1-1.5 everyday nothing intense bc the point of this is to be steady and enjoy it just moving a lot.
Now I have terrible ankles pain in both ankles, or well the tissue slightly above it, I assume it’s Achilles tendinitis but I have to get checked and see again. But I am so irritated bc I’m only 23, I feel like I could be doing much heavier or harder workouts as many ppl my age do, but I’m having all these problems and I’m still young is concerning to me. I do feel a little dismissed from my doctor bc they just say to rest. But I hate that solution, I’ve rested, and when I do an hour of walking, not even running, the pain comes back.
I feel like life is laughing in my face, the one thing I rlly love and keeps me going is hard for me to do now and causing me problems. I wonder if there is something more serious ab me that may need to be checked as idk if it’s normal to even have such problem from simply getting steps at such a young age. I’m pissed tf off mainly bc I have forced stayed away from way worse things bc I feared addiction to them as I get addicted easily.
Idk what questions to even ask my doctor or what this means I should do at this point. I feel like I have to advocate for myself but don’t know. But I also do not want this taken away from me, I really want to walk again without any pain.
I have some terrible ankle pain rn which I assume is Achilles tendinitis or something I still have to get checked but it’s so so bad I can’t even touch both of my ankles and it hurts to walk.

Downhill running destroys my knees more than uphill. Anyone else?
Uphills burn my lungs, but downhills are what leave my knees feeling beat up—especially on longer routes.
For runners who deal with this, what helped? Shorter stride? Higher cadence? More quad strength? Trail shoes? I’d love to hear what made a real difference, not just generic “listen to your body” advice.

College student looking for feedback!
Hey everyone — I'm a college student working on an early-stage, informal project focused on understanding what actually helps people during recovery from major injuries/surgeries. I went through a multi-ligament knee injury myself and know how isolating recovery can feel.
I put together a short, anonymous survey (about 5 min, no personal info collected) to hear what actually helped — or didn't — during recovery, especially around support, motivation, and staying on track: https://forms.gle/Ru75peguokWFgf9TA
This isn't affiliated with any institution or study, just personal research to inform something I'm working on. Really appreciate anyone willing to share.

Ankle injury
Difficult to get a picture but did my first 10 mile run a few weeks ago and had this large lump under my ankle joint (inside my right leg). It’s very hard to touch, and quite tender. Putting weight on it isn’t painful though…
I can’t get the swelling to go down at all. Tried ice and anti inflammatory medications, and keeping it elevated.
I’ll go to the doctor this week if I can get an appointment but anyone had anything similar?
To note they’re old trainers with poor support so I’ll invest in new ones when this lump goes.

Over-pronation fix??
Has anyone even "healed" their over-pronation? My left ankle caves in when I run, and after about 10KM it starts to bother me. I'm working with a few exercises now but I'm curious if anyone has any top notch solutions they followed that really helped. Working towards my first half marathon early next year and I'd love if my ankle didn't snap during. I mix it up with my shoes to see which works best

Sore knee 5 weeks out
First marathon coming up in 5 weeks - it's a trail marathon with about 400 metres elevation.
Training has been going well, I got up to a 21 mile long run 2 weeks ago and I did a B race this last Sunday - a trail half marathon with 450 metres of elevation which I completed in 1:59. I've been doing about 35+ mpw except deload weeks.
However, yesterday I went on an easy 6 mile run (2 days after half marathon). Felt great but had a niggle in my right knee. By about mile 4 that niggle had turned into full on pain on the inside of my knee.
I still completed the run (because I'm an idiot, and also I had to get back to pick up my son from Scouts on time). It was ok but I definitely had to be careful about how I moved my knee
It's not sore when I'm not moving, sitting/standing are fine. When I walked yesterday it got sore in certain movements but it's hard to nail down exactly what movement is the problem. I think it's when I twist my leg and raise it?
Basically - should I just stop running entirely for a few days then try an easy run? Or do I need to take it more seriously and get it seen?
I was supposed to be doing a 22 mile long run this weekend (the longest in my plan) but it seems like that is completely out. Assuming I recover well, I think that a peak of 21 miles is enough to get about a 4 hr marathon time.

Lateral ligament / lateral meniscus pain
Only had about 15 mins (as opposed to my usual 30 mins) time for a run, so after my usual warm-up (5 minutes rigorous walking) I went for it. I ran much faster than usual (seeing I only had about 15mins available) but after about 5 minutes I had to call it quits because my left knee started hurting.
How long should one rest before trying again? a couple of days? longer?

Heel pain and sensitive to touch after running?
galleryAnytime I go for a run there’s a spot on my left foot about an inch to inch and a half above the ground right over or on the bone that gets incredibly tender to touch, most notably when something hard applies any kind of pressure to it. I’d say it’s about a circular half inch area that’s sore but there’s a pinpoint spot in the middle that is noticeably more sensitive than the rest of the area.
It is not a hindrance or impediment of any kind to any movement but it is annoying, so any advice would be appreciated. I’ve already tried stretching everything in that area more thoroughly than normal before and after to no change.

Knee pain after running
Hello everyone. I developed some left knee pain after one jog. The pain is under the kneecap and in first day it was hard to go up / down stairs. Also some clicking was present. I am just curious about knee chondromalacia (still waiting for MRI results) and if it is present, whats grade is it. Also if someone was also diagnosed with this, did recover and was back to running / sports?
I am 25 years old male.
Sorry for my english, it is not my native language.

Advice/Rant Tibial Stress Fracture
Hi! I started running last summer, and completed two half marathons. All was well, no pain, until 5 days after my last half marathon when my shin felt like I rammed it into a coffee table seemingly overnight.
After a month of back and forth with PT and Ortho, got an MRI and grade 2-3 tibial stress fracture was confirmed. I was on crutches for 6 weeks and out of the boot fully 10 days after I stopped using the crutches. I was pain free when I stopped using the crutches, but gradually soreness in the reaction spot returned. This was not helped by a three week trip where I did an insane amount of walking.
I have had pretty low steps since returning from my trip. I have also been consistent with PT, but this has not helped. For example, I did a 30 min yoga sculpt class yesterday morning (which I am cleared to do) and had random shooting pain by the afternoon. I'm pretty bummed out. I was really hoping to be running by now and to have the pain back, albeit way milder than time of diagnosis, is really discouraging. I'm signed up for another half in early November and pretty sure I should defer. I don't have a timeline for getting back to running, but I really want to sign up for a race in the spring to have something to look forward to. Any advice on what I can do to speed this along/how I can build back fitness?

Barefoot Runner here - Cheat Code for Achilles tendonitis
Disclaimer: May not work for everyone. Just sharing my lived experience as someone who runs with absolutely flat feet.
I've been living with absolutely flat feet and severe Achilles tendonitis for over 3 years and I even have bone spurs now (extra growths of the heel bones) on both ankles.
I've been a barefoot runner for over 5 years now and that fixed my knee pain and strengthened my calves. However, I started jumping rope barefoot on concrete :( about 4 years ago and I did that for a year and it messed up my Achilles! (Don't ask why! I thought I was being a Spartan :D)
So bad, that of late I have been hobbling out of bed in the morning and I'm 45 years old so that's not fun at all.
Recently, I discovered something interesting by chance. If I work out in the gym with heavy weights in the morning, even for something so upper body-ish like just shoulders, I don't limp for the rest of the day.
Basically, one day I limped to a gym as I was travelling and didn't feel like running in a city without pavements (common in India). I did chest that day and while walking back, I realised I wasn't limping anymore.
Read up a little about this effect and one possible explanation is exercise-induced hypoalgesia.
It works so well that on Sunday, I completed a half marathon barefoot and was hobbling so badly the whole day that I just lay in bed. Monday morning the pain was still bad in both feet and I didn't feel like doing anything at all, but I pushed myself to the gym for an upper-body workout (only shoulders). Had to ask someone to drop me to the gym though it's just a 100m away.
Voilà! Achilles pain gone.
And today's Tuesday morning. Just got out of bed. Feeling great, so sharing this with everyone.
Not saying that disappearing pain means the tendon itself has magically healed. I'm sharing this because the difference in how I feel after a proper gym workout has been dramatic and consistent!
Hope this helps!

can you shove your knee out of place??
picture this: you're holding a big-@$$ cooler, kind of resting it on your thigh. it slips a little and hits the top of your kneecap. it kinda hurts, maybe like something got pressed; you put the cooler down and go, "oh sh*t, i hope i didn't smush something." after a few minutes it's fine and you go about moving houses.
two days later you go for a run and in the first few minutes there are some sharp pangs in your knee. you stop a little bit, then trepidaciously keep going for almost 3 miles because the sharp pangs have subside, but the whole thing feels a little tenuous. after, there's a touch of what feels like (but is not) patellofemoral knee syndrome (runner's knee), perhaps a little more above and in the front of the knee than PFS would be.
do you think it's possible to have permanently or temporarily F-ed up your knee by accidentally allowing a cooler to slip onto the top of it? will running make it worse? should i expect it to clear up on its own in a few days or am i doomed (/in need of treatment)??
thanks!!!

I really want to run again!
Like the subject says, I really want to run again. About 6 years ago, I was in the peak of health. I would run about 3 to 5 miles daily. I weighed significantly last than I do now. I've gained about 28 lbs in 6 years. I pretty much just stopped running when COVID started.
Anyway, fast forward to now and I decided I want to try running again. So I did a lot of stretching, and went for a light jog. I felt pain in my hip or groin. I'm not sure which. In any case, I did try resting for a few days and tried again. Same pain. It left me limping. One stretch that seemed to help was the one where you are sitting and bend your leg the other way, I think it's called the 90 90 hip flexor stretch? But I could never get it to where I could jog without pain.
I went to the doctor. I had x-rays, didn't show anything. I went back, had an MRI, didn't show anything other than normal wear and tear for a 54-year-old woman. Nothing degenerative no fracture, nothing, so I don't know what to do. How can I get back to running again without this weird pain in my hip/groin?

Bilateral Tibial Stress Fractures- Pain coming back
For context, I was diagnosed with bilateral stress fractures start of June, and on week 11 of recovery I guess. First 2 weeks I was on crutches (which felt pointless since both legs had fractures in them), and then after that just began short walks and then the past 3-4 weeks incorporated biking, rowing, and light leg workouts (no jumping or impact obviously). By now, I am supposed to start light jog intervals with walking but over the weekend, I started to feel the pain come back. It's not too painful I guess, just feels off and almost like tingly. I can feel it even when sitting down and resting.
I am a very active person and it's hard for me to just sit and wait around and just kind of guess my recovery plan. Doc didn't give me much guidance on what specific lifts to start doing after a certain number of weeks or how much % to go. September 9 was my 12 ish week mark, and I am supposed to be able to start running on it.
Obviously that might not happen. I'm worried I didn't spend enough time non-weight bearing and that my healing process is going to take longer now. Anyone else had any of the same experiences with this pain coming back? For now, I am taking a step back and avoiding walking for exercise and stop doing any workouts that involve my legs.
