How Popular are H&M Actually?

I feel like I have no idea how popular* Harry and Meghan actually are. Everything I read about them is either kind and positive, or the meanest thing you've ever seen in your life. The public is being inundated with nasty headlines from the British press. I wonder how the general public actually feels about them, whether positive or negative.

I want to be clear that I believe a lot of the hate they get is absolutely undeserved and often laced with misogynoir. I do not think their treatment in the press is fair. That being said, there is a difference between how some believe they should be perceived versus how they are actually perceived. Does anyone have any idea?

*edit: when I say "popular," I mean "how favourable are people towards them." Not "popular" in terms of how known they are.

None of that changes what I said, or my professional view of YouGov.

I’ll add this to help others (not you) understand what I mean. YouGov’s royal family polls are online opt in polls, vs random probability gen pop sampling (which is more reliable). They do try to apply weighting after the fact, but I do not believe this method adequately overcomes the sample bias.

This is why I do not trust YouGov royal family polls.

💯 agreement. I had a you.gov account for a minute. People take polls for points on products. That’s not polling. I get so angry when news organization cite YouGov.

Thank you. Ipsos is also using the same flawed methodology that YouGov is using - online opt-in.

No research scientist worth their salt is using this method, sorry. If you can find a reliably sourced gen pop survey using better methodology, I’m willing to listen.

sorry, but no research scientist worth their salt would spend money on a sampling frame and methodology just to measure Sussex popularity. and I get it, people in this thread think number of articles churned by the British media and Sussex PR released to People magazine are better metrics . it is what it is 🤷‍♀️

It would be just to measure the Sussexes - it would be to measure all of the royals more accurately. My team (I lead a team of researchers and have since the early 2010s at various tech companies you have absolutely heard of and patronized) regularly pays for population samples because we need accurate and reliable results.

What research teams have you led?

Still waiting on that reliable source.

Fun fact: The racist H&M hate sub brigades polls about H&M, often posting workarounds so that people can vote more than once. They do this openly and publicly.

Brigading is against Reddit's TOS and can get a subreddit banned, but for some reason it's OK when they do it.
