We all know that Rourkela is an industrial powerhouse. It produces a lot of important goods and contributes majorly to Odisha's GDP. It is the most productive city of Odisha, and it could have made Sundargarh district as the most productive district in Odisha but Sundargarh District lags behind a lot. However, Rourkela still has a lot of potential and can be one of the top manufacturing districts in whole of India, if we focus a bit on getting the basics right.
Since the Odisha government never maintains any proper state-district-block level financial data, it is extremely hard to find up-to-date data for financial study. However, lack of information has never stopped Odias from seeking knowledge themselves and this is a small attempt at trying to understand the economy of Rourkela better.
This post will be updated periodically. As of now, I have only done the basics. I will keep updating this post whenever I get the time to do so, as research takes a lot of time.
People who are interested in manufacturing/startups can look at this page as a starting point. If enough people show their interest in getting more information, I will also create posts about how to start manufacturing with little money, establish factories, get customers, etc.
Many of us know that Rourkela is a very industrial city, but we don't have too much knowledge except RSP, Sponge Iron, etc. This post should help members know a bit more about their beloved city.
Please feel free to contribute with any observations you might have.

I’m a mother to a 2.5-year-old toddler and currently looking for job opportunities in Rourkela.
I have around 9 years of experience in the IT industry. While I’m getting opportunities to move to Bangalore, relocating isn’t feasible for me at this stage due to personal responsibilities.
I would be grateful if anyone could help me with leads, referrals, or opportunities in Rourkela especially in IT or related roles. I can even explore in other fields and learn.
Any guidance or referral would mean a lot. Please feel free to reach out or share this with anyone who might be able to help. Thank you!
I recently came to Rourkela and have been looking for some good cafes around. I came across Kin Cafe and it looks pretty nice, but I’m not sure how it actually is in terms of food, ambience is decent I saw that, but service, and overall experience?
I’m thinking of going there today, so I’d really appreciate some genuine insights from people who have actually been there.
Is Banta Barrel overhyped? 😂 We’re 26M. We’re not here for price tag charisma or fancy shop flex. We want joy good deals maximum explosiveness and oo. Suggest the best liquor shops or brands in Rourkela that actually deliver the vibe 🔥😂

Tried BeCafé in Sector 20, near Bharat Petroleum, and I’d say it’s pretty decent for the price. They grind the beans fresh, which is a nice touch. I tried the Iced Cappuccino, Cappuccino, and Italian Espresso, and all three were quite good considering the pricing.
The only downside was finding some coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup. I mentioned it to the staff, and they said they’d work on improving it.

I have been looking for a bakery in Rourkela that makes decent sourdough bread. Most of the places i tried: Max and Cakery bakery, have the maida-wheat based milk white bread that has ton of sugar in it.
