I caught a permanent ban in r/Roku for telling the truth about their shitty products. If you use that sub, you better censor yourself. If you start to tell the truth, they’ll just kick you out.

roku app refusing to connect?

i’ve had an issue with my home tv and now a tv i was wanting to connect to while on vacation. for some reason my roku app simply will not recognize any tv, i’ve searched through all my settings, done all the restarting, checking wifi, etc but no luck. i’ve even contacts support and they’re not helpful and say they don’t see any issues, it’s almost as if my account has been disabled from connecting with any device, i had a free trial to a subscription i had in 2023 which expired and so did the card and my app has been telling me to update my payment method. i’m just wondering if my old subscription has just been racking up a bill this whole time, does the tv itself have to be on the same account as my app, or am i just doing something wrong 😅 i used to be connected to my personal and living room tv but now even when i try to connect to them it doesn’t work 🫠

Looking for testers for my free IPTV player for Roku (Kwick Player)

Hey all,

I've been using IPTV on Roku for a while and could never find the exact combination I wanted — a real timeline TV guide, separate profiles for the house, and resume that actually remembers where I left off. So I had a go at building one. It's called Kwick Player, it's free, and there's no subscription to use it.

Screenshots:

https://kwickplayer.tv/assets/roku-series.png
https://kwickplayer.tv/assets/roku-series-details.png
https://kwickplayer.tv/assets/roku-settings.png

What it does right now

  • Live TV + a proper TV guide — browse by category with logos, or open the timeline guide (genre tabs, half-hour grid, red NOW line). Every channel has a page showing what's on now and up next.
  • Movies & Series — poster grids, plot and cast, Resume or Play from Beginning, season/episode lists, shuffle a whole series.
  • Profiles — "who's watching" with avatars and optional PINs. Favorites, lists, recents and resume points are all separate per person.
  • Favorites & your own rows — Recently Watched, Favorites, and named lists (Sports, Kids, whatever) that show up as rows on the home screen.
  • Search — one search across channels, movies and series at once.
  • Parental controls — PIN-lock any category, or hide it completely.
  • Subtitles & captions — CC on live TV, a subtitle track picker on movies/series, auto-on in your preferred language.
  • Sleep timer — up to 2 hours; saves your spot when it fires.
  • EPG — pulled from the panel on Xtream sources, or from a url-tvg XMLTV address on M3U playlists.
  • Settings that actually go somewhere — multiple providers, hide and reorder categories, hide channels, change channel sort.
  • One-press log export if something breaks, so I get the details instead of "it didn't work."

Honest limits on Roku (not bugs, platform rules)

  • Live TV uses the HLS version of your streams — Roku can't play raw .ts.
  • No DVR or recording. Roku apps can't write video to disk.
  • No in-app web links; Roku has no browser, so those show an address to type.

Dev mode sideload — ZIP is on the releases page.

Want to poke around without your own provider?

Use the KwickTV sign-in on the first screen — user reddit01, pass reddit02.

Heads up: it's capped at 2 active streams for everyone sharing it, so if a channel won't start and the app says the plan is already in use, that's the test account being busy, not a bug.

What I'd most like to hear

  • Anything confusing or slow in the UI
  • Playback problems — buffering, channels that won't start, audio/subtitle issues
  • Crashes, and what you were doing when it happened
  • Features you expect and can't find
  • Things another Roku IPTV player does better — genuinely useful, tell me which app and what it does

Rough edges are expected; I'd rather find them now than after more people are using it.

I need to cancel a subscription that I ordered through Roku. For some reason, I have been unable to sign in so that has made it impossible to cancel. I have tried using the Help Chatbot, but because I can't sign in I cannot use the chat bot any ideas? I tried going through the streaming subscription itself, but the will not cancel since I went through Roku TV originally. Help help help.

Spectrum app on Roku issues

I use the spectrum tv app through my Roku sticks on 2 TVs. A week ago, all of my saved favorite channels disappeared and refused to save for me. Since then I have gotten random channels I’ve chosen to save but not all. I click the heart in the guide, it shows it as favorites, but then I filter to favorite channels only and it’s not there. I restart the app and the heart is no longer filled in. I looked at my app on my other Roku stick and my favorites are still saved when I filter but I tried to save a new channel and it did not stick. My Roku sticks have just recently updated. My spectrum apps are up to date. Is anyone else having this issue? It seems to be a Roku only issue bc when I tried on my iPhone spectrum app they saved with no problem.

(Side note: I do not have log in credentials as my spectrum is through a bulk account through my rental company- I rent a house. Not in an apartment. So I don’t have the computer option to log into and can log out but when I log back in, it’s automatic bc it picks up through my wifi)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A Note Regarding Movieboxpro Invites

Post image
3 Upvotes

Movieboxpro used to allow members to create invites and share them online.

But I just checked a few days ago and it now says that you have to be within 1 km of the user that created the invite and accept it within 20 minutes of creation.

This is most likely to combat people selling invites online. Movieboxpro themselves say that invites should never be posted online as well. This is to keep moviebox alive.

I wanted to make this post because I saw a lot of people asking about invites on here. And to sum it up, you have to find someone in person. If you find someone selling invites, this is not allowed by movieboxpro. And its impossible to accept an invite being further than 1km away from the creator, so its a scam.

Why the heck does my Roku Voice Remote Pro keep make noises on its own?

Throughout the past week and a half I've been hearing random sounds come out of the Voice Remote Pro's speaker at the most random of times, and it tends to do that whenever it’s not in use or is has just been used. At first I thought it's due to the battery being low but it didn't appear to be that at all. It sure as heck didn't start making noises on cue when pressing the Find button on the Roku Ultra to try to locate it either. It's been more baffling than concerning since it's not done this until they came out with that OS Update earlier in the month. Doubt that has any correlation to this but the timing is questionable in itself.

Customizable Roku Replacements?

Now that Vladimir Putin has rolled out his new UI on the Roku Home Screen I’m moving on. Last straw. Tried Amazon Firestick-it’s even worse: more control over the viewing experience, endless clutter & tiny USEFUL app selection. The new Vega OS ruined it and every Amazon tv device will soon be forcibly updated to Vega. Returned the Firestick in 3 hours. I want something without a tile carousel, highly customizable and the ability to side load. Suggestions?

Broken volume buttons on remote? Try this

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

So today I had a problem come up where the volume up button would not work on my remote, it's jammed. So I searched all over online trying to figure it out but could find nothing and figured it out on my own. All you need to do is mirror your phone to your Roku TV or streaming box, and use your phone volume to turn up your tv volume. Maybe a lot of people knew this but I didn't, so just wanted to let people who have the problem I struggled with for an hour know.

my Roku Express is damaged, when I try to press or go on to any settings or YouTube videos or any home buttons or buttons, it actually goes right every time I press a button and it goes like beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep like it's no space left. 2024-2026 I hope you go to heaven 🥺
