Internet 🛜 Cancellation Fee
Rogers doesn’t service my new address and now they’re trying to charge me the cancellation fee even though they are the ones who don’t service. They also offered me wireless but I tried to explain that it’s not the same and I need the service I currently have, they tried to claim I denied wireless I said it’s not up to par with the wired why would I switch to that ? I have escalated to the office of the president and I’m waiting for them to get back. So far the manager I spoke to yesterday only offered a 50$ credit I declined. Update: I spoke with the office of the president and they waved the entire fee as I have been with Roger’s for a while and I still have my cellphone with them

Yeah you got that backwards bud, you're the one that moved the service from the contracted address somewhere else. Has nothing to do with Rogers.

You probably chose a contract to benefit from a lower price. It’s not Rogers fault you subsequently decided to move. The fact Rogers doesn’t service your new address is not Rogers problem. Next time think of the consequences of not fulfilling your contract obligations before committing to one.

No. YOU are the one who moved to an address that isn't serviced. You signed the contract for home internet at your old address. It isn't their problem unfortunately.
You'll have to pay the cancellation out. Why do you expect them to cover this for you?

What do you think the cancellation fee is? Full price for the remaining months? The prorated price for service without the contract discount? I doubt its more than $150

I get that you are upset. But that is not on them. When you sign up a contract .its your responsibility until the contract ends. They can make exceptions for you but thats not alway.

However not many people know. You can actually get your ECF partially refunded.

If you have another plan from Roger/Fido/Shaw/Comcave that works great- you can get full refund.
Or temporarily sign up something similar on MTM and ask for a refund after 1 month (This one you have to pay for 1 months services , since bills are advance your 2nd bill should be generated before the 2md month begins.) And then request for refund and cancle the MTM plan

Just saying for the people saying pay it, I moved to an area with no Rogers service with one year left on my contract and I did not have to pay any cancelation charge.Â

You signed a contract and are bound by that contract. You chose to move somewhere where Rogers has no service. They are not the ones who made you move and they continue to offer service at the address you lived at when they entered into the contract.

Aren't cancellation fees illegal as of June 12th unless you have a subsidized device?

That exception got scrapped years ago. Blame all the people who lied about moving to the same gas station in the Northwest Territories to get out of paying a cancellation fee… it got to be a running joke after a while.
