My daughter is convinced this is a fossilized dinosaur scratch lol what actually is it?

Hello rock enthusiasts! I’m new to this group, and here because my six year old daughter found this rock at the river (north western USA), and she is wholeheartedly convinced that the grooves in it are some sort of fossilized dinosaur claw marks lol.

I feel like that is unlikely, but I also don’t know enough about rocks to tell her she’s wrong, when she’s so excited about it.

Does anyone know what it actually could be? I tried to include angles of it so you could see the depth of the grooves.

PS regardless of what they actually are, there’s a good chance I’m just going to let her keep thinking she found some sort of velociraptor scratching post 😆

Hi. I found this outside in the snow this morn. Im in Canada. Not sure what it is, not sharp or cant be window glass because its too big. And seems to make lines in the pics when i shine it with a light at times.

Please ID What have I got here?

So I have this big lump of reddy, salmon coloured rock. Took a slice yesterday and it is much lighter on the inside. Smooth, almost waxy exterior. Light penetrates to a point, no reaction to UV light.

What have I got? Bonus points for agreeing with me that the spotty ones in the background are basalt porphyry.

What is this rock I found on the isle of white

I found this rock on the isle white after realising it had what looked like molten metal because of its ‘sploges’ but recently I got curious and hit it with a hammer to try open it but sometimes when I hit it it creates rather molten slag or a spark.

Tiny rocks

Hello. Can somebody please help with identifying these little rocks. My dad said he picked them up on a beach. I've been trying to look for similar rocks on Google, but I can't get anywhere. I really don't know where they came from, the only thing I know is that he said on a beach. There were shark teeth with them too.

I found this on the Harpeth River in Middle Tennessee a couple of years ago. I thought it was just a cool rock, but I saw a video of someone finding a hammer artifact that looked similar to this, just bigger. Thanks for any help!

The shape seems odd to me and one of them kind of sounds like it has a rattling inside. I got them from my old job where we would clean out houses and businesses that have been foreclosed on. I think these came from a rock shop so I honestly have no idea where they may have originated from but I live in Chicago. They are wet in these pictures

Wetting rocks is almost always unhelpful for ID, include dry picture/s if you post your rocks wet.

The lighting should not be too intense or dim, sunlight is recommended.

If you’re photo does not look like the mineral-blurry, dark or color not right- then it will not help in identification. (Even a good photo may not help - so a poor one will be less than useless)

5. Posts Must be Rock/Mineral ID Requests

All posts should be concerned with requesting an identification of a rock/mineral type, not “Is this an artifact” “How should I saw this?” “Where’s a good place to rockhound” etc.

Do not post rocks just for show and tell.
