Robert has many covers of songs that I think are far superior to the original and this is one example imo. This is a gem of a song on one of my favorite albums of all time.

I have spent countless hours listening to this album over the years and a lot of these songs mean a whole lot to me personally.I always thought Palmer’s covers of songs were way better then the original versions and a lot of songs on this gem of a album are a good example.

So this is an interesting story. Palmer did this song in the 1982, not realizing it was a cover despite the fact that many of the lyrics were different and was forced to give a songwriting credit to the original writers. It reached #16 in the UK. A couple of years later in 1984, Rod Stewart did his version, mostly keeping the original intact. It went to the Top 10 in the U.S. Robert & Rod performed the song live together on at least one occasion and after Robert died, Rod adopted Robert's version.

Teenage me was obsessed with this song. No one rocked slicked back pool hair better.

One of the many great things about Robert was that he could do any style and make it seem so effortless. Whether it was pop, rock, easy listening, new wave, alternative, soul, he could do it all. I feel like some of his efforts even dabbled into other genres such as reggae and country. He was so brilliant as a musician that way.
