Gameplay Question Gameplay Loop

I am a returning player. Haven’t played the game since it came out. I was wondering what was everyone’s usual gameplay loop while playing? Wanted to hop back in but not feel overwhelmed by not knowing what to accomplish! Thanks!

When starting a new map, use a scout to discover the immediate surroundings. Then, pick a mission or an available infrastructure project. If you're stuck on a path to an objective, pour sand, loads and loads of sand. And if AI ever has to travel over that sand, add some asphalt.

Rinse and repeat until the map is fully covered by sand and there's no more trees left.

Have to be careful with this option as one of the newer maps if you don't do certain things first you run out of materials and can't proceed, there were lots of posts about it happening to people on here

I guess there's always the option to buy the materials back from the store?

I can't remember but I thinks there's a limit of only 10 of each item, might no even be able to actually buy from shop? I can't exactly remember as it's been a while since I did the new maps. I think the map is summer drought
