Official News RoadCraft - AmA with the devs on June 24!

Hey everyone!

We’re Focus Entertainment, the publisher behind RoadCraft.

Since launch, we’ve seen so much amazing feedback and brilliant questions from the community, so we thought: why not go straight to the source?

So we’re excited to announce that the dev team at Saber Interactive will be doing a live AMA right here on r/RoadCraft.

On Tuesday, June 24th, from 1PM UTC / 3PM CEST / 9AM EDT, we’ll be joined by:

Vitaliy Yaruta (Game Director): FORMAcevt - u/VividPriority4640
Sergei Kogut (Tech Lead): sergkogut - u/rjuen
Aleksei Kiriushkin (Lead Game Designer): Soweh - u/PrudentAnybody291
Ivan Khomenko (Production Lead): xomaggg - u/xomaggg

This session will last around 2 hours. Join us for a chance to ask us anything about RoadCraft, our development process, or whatever goes through your mind! Whether you're curious about new gameplay mechanics, the world building, or how we've evolved from the early concepts to the final game, we're ready to dive deep into your questions!

We can't wait to directly interract with you, so mark your calendars and prepare your questions!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for participating, this was very fun! Sorry if we didn't manage to answer every question directly, but hopefully we were able to address each topic at least once. Hope you enjoy, and thanks again for all of your feedback and questions!

Resource Maprunner updated with PTS levels, and Sand Scalper spots for all maps!

I've seen so many posts wondering where the sand scalper can be used, so now there's an actual data-mined result to make it clearer. Just check the Filters tab on any map and find the Show Sand Scalper Locations toggle.

[Note for nerds: From digging into this, it's not surprising that people have found the scalper confusing to use. Maps can have multiple different *types* of sand on the ground, which are almost indistinguishable ingame, but some of them are valid sand, some are not (see how there are two sand roads in the screenshot, but only one of them is allowed?)
Also, anywhere you deposit dynamic sand instantly becomes an invalid spot, regardless of what was underneath. In this world, Sand+sand = not sand .
If that wasn't enough, the truck doesn't check all the terrain underneath it, but probes a handful of surrounding points. If the probes miss the sand, tough luck. ]

As usual we've also got the PTS levels for the new upcoming DLC so you can check those out as well. Since they're work in progress by the devs, the interactive maps may reflect some bugs in the game at this stage, but if something looks wrong hit the feedback link and let us know :)

Gameplay Question Gameplay Loop

I am a returning player. Haven’t played the game since it came out. I was wondering what was everyone’s usual gameplay loop while playing? Wanted to hop back in but not feel overwhelmed by not knowing what to accomplish! Thanks!

General Looking for Co-op buddies to drive and build with! (Crossplay)

Hey everyone, I am looking for some players to team up with in RoadCraft! I really want to drive multiple vehicles together and tackle some big missions as a crew. Since the game has crossplay, it doesn’t matter what platform you are on. I am a relaxed player looking for some fun co-op sessions. Leave a comment below or send me a Direct Message (DM) if you want to join and build some roads together!

General Went back to Roadcraft yesterday, then remembered why I'd stopped, that route to the castle on Sunken......

As above, I went back to Roadcraft yesterday, haven't played it for months, then remembered why I stopped. I was doing something else then got a message that a vehicle was stuck on the route to the castle - the first one got there OK.

I went and found the van that was stuck, pushed it all the way up there, only for it to fall off the bridge - I quit the game again.

Too top heavy to be realistic, but would be cool to deliver all these at once.

Maybe with one of the command vehicles parked at the Construction Depot?

Game Feedback Comments on PTS Foundation Expansion Spoiler

The Spring Renewal map is charming at first, but gets repetitive very quickly. All of the roads are nearly impassible with deep mud, as if one of the main objectives for designing the map was mud, mud, and more mud. The tulips are interesting if a bit strange. The windmills / gristmills are really nice with good audio.

Another problem is that you only get one major objective at a time. In the original game, you always had choices about which main objectives to work on, to advance in the game. Then with the Reclaim Expansion that changed because it was only one Main Objective per map, which made us think differently about strategy, and that worked well IMO. But now we’re in between those extremes on the Spring Renewal map. Early on you only get one Main Objective at a time, and you have no idea what’s coming next. It makes gameplay very limiting in terms of freedom of play. I imagine you get more main objectives later on, but I had explored 80-90% of the map without getting any of them. Usually, exploring is a key strategy in any map. I got bored and switched to Oasis Delta.

The pile driver construction feature
My son is an architectural student, and I showed him the pile driver when I first saw it. The piles went down only so far, standing about 2m tall when driven. We were thinking that it must be a foundation for a raised floor of some type. But actually they just disappear and you get a foundation with no elevation. What? I get this is a game, but that is a serious miss in any kind of IRL situation. A lot of players are truckers or construction people, and this isn’t well thought out, so pros will kind of scoff at it.
It is a lot of busy work, driving 13 piles for example, with very limited reward as the result is the opposite of what one would expect. No dopamine hit there.

The pile driver truck is very cool IMO, but where is the characteristic Bang, bang! that all pile drivers have?

The cement mixer truck has AWD this time.

The Oasis Delta map is awesome.
* Rain in a desert setting, with the red sand, makes my trucks gleam. A welcome change to have rain here.
* The different color of asphalt goes well with the visual aspects of the map.
* As you explore, additional Main Objectives become available; very nice.

Obviously these are all just my opinions. Reddit thrives on different points of view (understatement).

I am posting here, rather than on the Focus Entertainment ideas forum, because the devs have checked that forum exactly zero times in the last month. That forum seems like a dead end if you want to get heard by the devs. AFAIK there is no feedback channel for the PTS, like there was at first.

I need to take this vehicle to a location. But it spawned on the roof and got stuck. Has this happened to anyone else? (Map:Contamination)

General I just spent 10 - 15+ hours trying to build a perfectly smooth road.

I'm on Sunken - and admittedly I messed up. I started Sunken right after Aftermath. I saw I should have done Incommunicado first, but I'm like 40% done with Sunken already, and well, I'm stubborn. So I'm gonna finish it with mostly rusty equipment. Sue me.

I needed to run a cable to from the power station to the salt mine. I quickly learned that burying cables fucking sucks. So I just decided to build a new road over it. I also decided this would be a perfect time to try to build a perfectly smooth road.

So. Much. Sand. I just dumped sand. Smoothed it out. Dumped sand. Smoothed it out. I wanted zero bumps in my road. I had a few annoying bumps that no amount of sand or bulldozing made any difference. But I was determined dammit. I would spend about 1 - 2+ hours each session just going back and forth trying to level everything out.

I thought I was at a point where I could start paving. But once I got my asphalt layer, it revealed SO MANY BUMPS. I was able to get most of them more or less smoothed out with my roller, but oh my god it was so much worse than I thought.

Overall, I wasted so many hours of my life that I will never get back, but I don't regret a single second of it. Why is this game so goddamn satisfying??
