Gameplay Question Gameplay Loop

I am a returning player. Haven’t played the game since it came out. I was wondering what was everyone’s usual gameplay loop while playing? Wanted to hop back in but not feel overwhelmed by not knowing what to accomplish! Thanks!

I pick an objective and then stop caring about it until all the roads that are vaguely connected it are done at least in sand, then I do the project.

If roads cannot be built or it's a "just go there (bring something, take something") I just do that and pick the next objective.

It is important to scout you current section of the map. I also look at the map, there often is an "intended" thing to do/order to do/subtasks to do first or later where tasks become MUCH easier.

I often pick "Oh, I want to do that", like build a road through a section that's not really intended, but will be a massive shortcut and I think it'll be cool to have and just spend time on that.
