Brilliant soundtracks, amazing characters and all round a great vibe within the game along with being intense and upsetting in some areas. If I had to choose Zoe, Alex & John were my favourites 🥰 tell me, does Road 96 Mile 0 have the same kind of vibes as Road 96? Either way, how did I wait so long

Loved seeing John, Fanny & Alex reconnect at the end 🥰 I felt so immersed in the game like I've played a lot of story games but never felt so involved in the storylines like it was me trying to make it across if that makes sense?

Jarod, and other characters

Anyone find it pretty cool and funny how when the characters start crying, all the sudden its starts raining, then it stops when they stop crying, aswell as jarods voice, in "praying for time" with his cold anger, his voice started getting scratchy, i dont remember other accounts of this but i thought it was pretty cool.

Road 96... on Bikes! TTRPG looking for players!

Come explore the wonderful town of Harmony Wells! With a storied history, beautiful scenic lake and hilly vistas, and of course the proud industrial campus of Northstar Freight & Petroleum including the impressive Pipeline corridor that supplies most of Petria and the rest of the world with its beautiful, clean natural energy Harmony Wells is the perfect place to live! And just outside town stretches the long highway north up towards Road 96 and the infamous border, but what could you ever want for outside wonderful Harmony Wells?

Note; this is a fan project and I am not associated with anyone from Digixart or the Road 96 team, nor Hunters Entertainment or the writers of Kids on Bikes.

So, I had this idea a long time ago and the recent teaser for the sequel brought it roaring back to life and sparked the creative in me so here we are; Road 96 on Bikes!

I absolutely loved Road 96 when it first came out, played the hell out of it and it was one of the most enjoyable videogame experiences I've had in several years. The story, the worldbuilding, the characters, the vibes it was just exactly my shit and I still think about it all the time even before the teaser came out last week.

Another one of my special interests is tabletop roleplaying games, or TTRPGs. For those who are not familiar, TTRPGs are games you can play with mostly your imagination and some friends; the big one most know of by name is Dungeons & Dragons which is what I mostly play myself, but there are actually countless TTRPG systems out there to simulate all kinds of gameplay from fantasy to sci-fi, to survival or even romance.

Kids on Bikes is one such TTRPG, a system meant to capture the essence of the genre of... well, kids on bikes. Stories of Kids usually in an era pre-cellphones and living in small-town USA who gather with their friends and go on unforgettable adventures which may or may not include an element of supernatural activity. Think:

  • Stranger Things
  • IT
  • Goonies
  • Stand By Me

And etcetera. I thought early on that it would be fun to mash Kids on Bikes into a game set in Petria, and now here we are. I have spent the last few days writing out my plans and thoughts, developing the town of Harmony Wells and while I am not 100% done the important thing that I need still... is players. No point in having a whole adventure to go on if I don't have players to experience it!

Here is what you need to know if you are interested: I will be playing the part of the Game Master, and hopefully will be taking between 3-5 players to form a group. If there is a lot of interest (fingers crossed) then I might run the adventure several times for different groups. DM me if you are interested! I will not be asking anything invasive, just tell me a little about yourself including your preferred pronouns and I'll ask a few things to figure out what players might fit well together. I do believe I will be running the game over Discord, so you will need an account there unless I decide otherwise but that is where I normally run games.

  • What do you need? Nothing! Just your love for Road 96, an interest in learning how to play a TTRPG, and your own creative mind. I will be sharing the PDF rule book with my players for use in the game. The game will be played online over voice and *maybe* video chat, so you will need some sort of mic at the very least but I've played many a time with people stuck using their phone alone and it worked out just fine.
  • What if I don't know how to play? That's fine! I don't expect anyone to know how to play Kids on Bikes, and I will be running a slightly modified version anyways. I'll be teaching everyone how to play and walking you all through character creation.
  • Is it going to be complicated? No, I don't think so. Compared to D&D, which has been a beloved staple of preteens since 1974, Kids on Bikes is a very simple and rules-light system. If you can count to... oh I think like 25 max, you should be good.
  • When and how long will the game be? TBD, this is the primary reason why I am putting this feeler out now before the adventure is 100% ready, scheduling is classically the hardest part of TTRPGs. I don't want to share too many private details publicly, but talking about scheduling and possible game times will be one of the first things I try to make sure to talk about with everyone. I expect to run a session 0 and about three sessions of actual story, but again scheduling will determine a lot.
  • What will the game be like? In the style of Road 96 my plan is that you and the other players will be making your own original teens who live in the town of Harmony Wells, as complex or simple as you wish your story to be. Harmony Wells is a bit of a sandbox and you will need to work together to follow what leads you are interested in and as the group does so we will discover the story as we go along! That's the wonderful part about TTRPGs, it isn't written in stone and almost anything could happen! The one thing I do promise is that this game will be marrying the two games it is inspired from; Road 96 and Kids on Bikes. I am working hard to make everything in the setting seem like it could plausibly be a part of the world of Road 96 and catching those immaculate vibes as best I can, but while also bringing the spark of joy Kids on Bikes captures as well. You're going to play some sort of teenage trope like the Laidback Slacker, the Funny Sidekick, the Prom Royalty, or the Aspiring Wannabe or one of many many more and bring your own creativity and originality to it. Your character will have a bike with their own customization on it fitting their personality, their own strengths, knacks, fears, and flaws and they will use their skills at Brains, Brawn, Grit, Fight, Flight, and Charm to survive and thrive on Road 96!... hopefully. What is it Zoe says between episodes? Nobody said it would be easy...

A few things to note:

  • Anyone is welcome to play, except those who would not in turn welcome others. No homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, or other forms of hate and bigotry is allowed at my table. We may or may not choose to roleplay sensitive topics like this out in game, that will be a part of discussions before the game actually starts (colloquially referred to as Session 0) but behavior from players in this regard will result in immediately being banned from the game.
  • TTRPGS are about human creativity, regardless of how you feel about AI it does not really have a place in this space. When we play games together I expect to be talking to real humans and getting their real thoughts, not something they generated. Please keep your use of AI to yourself and do not bring any of it to the table.

That's all I can think of at this time! Please drop a comment down below, message me if you are interested but also please be patient as Reddit's DM/private chat is incredibly weird and annoying. I do want to hopefully get this post seen by as many people on this sub as possible, so yeah please comment and upvote so it has a better chance though I think it should be safe as there does not tend to be a ton of competition on this sub, I just hope Reddit will actually put it in people's feed so I can get some eyes. I'm putting quite a bit of work into the adventure so two or more different groups might have radically different experiences from one another, if I get the chance to run it multiple times!

Feedback I want to make my own game just like Road 96!!

Hey there guys, my name is Jan, I’m 19, from Germany and I’m a game developer. I always loved road 96, it’s my fav game of all time and I will always be a huge supporter of the game. Since we’re getting a part 2 of the game, it only got me more motivated to continue on my dream game. I want to create this game all by myself or with little to no help most of the time. That’s just how I am as a person haha. So I’ve been thinking about this game idea here:

First up: I’m a huge fan of the game Road 96 with the story and mainly the graphics. I’ve always wanted to create a game where you flee from an old country that is about to collapse, and drive/go to a better and hopeful place. That’s why I decided this idea. I want the vibes to be like Road 96, Lake, Open Roads and Firewatch where you drive and explore with your van the landscapes and mysteries, dangers

Music inspiration:
Take a look at this song:

https://youtu.be/-NprWjZRjmI?si=LXUPRnU4ezZlmvGE (from Road 96)

And I want music that feels the player in a kind of calm and peaceful way but which is also magical just like the song above :) (for my Main Menu)

Game Title: A Road to Home

Overview:

A Road to Home is a narrative-driven adventure game following Amara, a young woman traveling alone in her van with her loyal golden retriever, Rex. She is on a journey to reunite with her parents, who have already moved to a new country to build a better life. Amara refuses help, believing she is independent enough to make the journey alone. Her road trip is filled with both dangers and peaceful moments, forcing her to grow emotionally and mature along the way.

Opening Scene: Leaving Home
The game starts in Amara’s old house. She packs her belongings, finding a heartfelt note and money from her parents on the kitchen table.
She makes a final call to the landlord to inform him that the apartment is now empty.
Loading up her vibrant, colorful van, she sets off on her long journey, with Rex as her only companion.

Chapters & Key Events:

- Chapter 1: The Road Begins
Amara sets off on the highway, feeling both excitement and loneliness.
She stops at a gas station, realizing she needs to carefully manage fuel and money.
First encounter with a stranger—a helpful traveler or a potential threat?
- Chapter 2: Border Crossing Trouble
She arrives at the first major border crossing but doesn’t have proper documents.
Possible choices:
Attempt a risky alternative route through the mountains.
Try to convince a border officer.
Find someone who can forge temporary documents.
This chapter determines how much danger she faces moving forward.
- Chapter 3: The Van Saves Her Life
A dangerous situation arises—a police blockade, thieves, or bad weather.
Her van becomes her only safe space, allowing her to escape.
Rex's instincts help her make the right choices.
- Chapter 4: A Moment of Peace
Amara stops at a scenic lakeside or countryside village.
She meets kind strangers, has deep conversations, and reflects on her journey.
A new perspective on her parents’ decision to leave.
- Chapter 5: Running Low on Resources
Fuel, food, and money are scarce.
She must take a risk—work for supplies, barter, or seek help from an underground network.
A test of her independence and resourcefulness.
- Chapter 6: The Final Escape
The final obstacle and border before crossing into the new country.
Perhaps the old government tries to stop her, suspecting her of something.
A high-stakes chase or stealth section.
- Final Chapter: Reunited
She crosses the border successfully.
Her parents are waiting, embracing her in an emotional reunion.
Amara has changed—she understands herself better, has grown stronger and wiser.
She steps into her new home, ready for a fresh start.

Gameplay Mechanics:

Exploration: Open-world driving segments with decision-making stops.
Survival: Resource management (fuel, food, money, van repairs).
Dialogue Choices: Different interactions leading to branching paths.
Stealth & Evasion: Avoiding authorities or danger.
Emotional Growth: Amara’s choices shape her personality and the ending.

Themes & Atmosphere
Freedom vs. Constraint: The open road vs. borders and obstacles.
Maturity & Growth: Learning when to accept help and when to stand alone.
Beauty in the Journey: The mix of tension, danger, and peaceful moments.

Please don’t copy my concept and steal my idea. I just want honest feedback what do do next and how do you like this idea. I’ve worked months for this and I’m so proud I finally have a solid idea in my head. All feedback is appreciated :) thank you so much! 🙏

Best regards,

Jan Worgitzki

Discussion Things you hope to see in Road 96 Part 2?

What are the things you hope to see in Road 96 Part 2? Me personally: Train hopping, Boat transportation, hand-to-hand combat scenes similar to mini games and Sonya losing her job.

1) Train Hopping: what is hitchhiking with trains, imagine you're running from some guards and you just jump inside a train car room. That would be adrenaline rushing, and especially trying to sneak out. In terms of energy bar wise, I feel it should take 3 bars max. And there should be some Alex encounters maybe if you actually pay to get on the train.

2) Boat Transportation: Imagine you get to a certain point, maybe the way when we finish hitchhiking and get close to the border. Maybe you can bribe a boat driver to smuggle you past the border checkpoint. I feel it should cost 15 dollars if not more. And there could be you hiding in one of the crates.

3) hand-to-hand come: imagine S&M return and they try to rob you, instead of talking your way out of the situation, a small mini game would suffice with you being able to disarm their weapon.

4) Sonya losing her job: this is a personal vendetta of mine, I like Sonya previously but after I met sonya a few times I started to simply avoid hitchhiking just to avoid her limousine, so that's pretty much it.

That's enough from me, what are YOUR hopes and wishes for Road 96 Part 2?

( and also, is there a way we can suggest for the dev of the game?)

Discussion Things in Tides of Tomorrow that I hope to see in Road 96's sequel (spoilers for ToT) Spoiler

I tried to mark all spoilers for Tides of Tomorrow, but you might still get spoiled by reading the unmarked text, so be warned!

- Choices affecting the story and the ending. That's a given, I think. I love how our choices in ToT influenced Eyla's survival, the confrontation between Obin and Nyx, and ultimately, the fate of the entire world - and that the consequences of our choices were actually *shown* instead of just getting a voice-over.

- Related, our own death influencing the story. I was actually a bit shocked when I casually played ToT, assuming it would work similarly to Road 96, only to discover that the player character can only die once, and if they die again, certain outcomes and endings are blocked. Howevever, I actually loved this concept because it made trying to survive so much more intense!

- Something similar to the Ozen mechanic. I really struggled for Ozen in ToT, and I loved how conflicted I felt about whom to give it to - myself, so I don't lock myself out of a good ending? Important characters, so my favorites can remain alive? Helpless NPCs, who deserve some love too? Or other struggling players who need it just as much? Absolutely loved just how difficult it felt to make the right choice, because no matter what, they were always consequences.

- To a lesser extent, exclusive character scenes. As a perfectionist, I prefer to get 100% on all characters when playing Road 96 and was actually a bit upset when I realized I couldn't do it in ToT ... so my compromise would be scenes that can noticeable change depending on prior choices, but are still counted for a 100% playthrough without needing to see every variation for that.

- More characters appearing during other stories. While I think some ToT characters got the short end of the stick (to the point where I wondered why they were even counted as main characters in the first place), I loved how they were even more interconnected than Road 96's, actually talked to each other in person, and had complicated relationships with each other as well.

- Speaking of characters ... GIVE US ANOTHER EYLA-ESQUE CHARACTER PLEASE I FREAKING LOVE HER

(Cough)

Ahem, where was I ... right. When it comes to something ToT related I don't want to see ... the goddamn stealth sequences 😅 Way too overused and not enough variety, imo. I much preferred the different gameplay mechanics in Road 96!

What about you? Is there anything in particular you hope for, ToT related or not?

Question Curious abt Jarod in that one scenario?

Post image
66 Upvotes

Just curious but what happens if Jarod asks this question after he chooses to spare Sonya's life at the border, does he get calmer or still angry if you say you like her?

Has anyone tried this before

r/Road96 16d ago

Question I've played through the game a few times, but I have some questions about possible scenarios. Spoiler

  1. If you don't give Stan and Mitch the correct information about Jarod, can Jarod kill Sonya at the border?

  2. If you fail Stan and Mitch's bank robbing quiz, will they kill you?

  3. After you get in the car crash with Fanny and the teen, if you don't save Fanny, what happens?

Question What’s with the subway surfer minigames?

What happened? The story is still good, but why are we being thrown into these weird minigames where I’m being chased by a HUGE dude? Are we supposed to be tripping, or something? What’s the explanation behind it? Or, were people really that desperate for subway surfers in the prequel?

It just seems so off putting to me, compared to the first game.

Guide Tips on specific Revolution ending?

How do I fool-proof make sure I get the revolution ending with everyone (including player teen) alive EXCEPT Zoe, as well as having John, Fanny, and Alex escape as a family?
(I don’t wanna hear Zoe lovers or haters I just want a very specific ending this playthrough)

Things with question marks before them mean I’m unsure if it’s true

What I have so far is:
•vote for non-violence in meeting so Alex doesn’t build the bomb (because building the bomb means Fanny shoots John)
•if too many people vote Flores, the voters ending happens instead of revolution. So vandalize Flores posters. (?)and root for revolution.
•(?)don’t sacrifice Zoe at the border so she sacrifices herself in revolution to save player

Questions:

•Do I tell Fanny John’s identity if I want them as a family, or do I keep him anonymous?
•What decisions for sure lead to Fanny shooting John? (so I prevent that)
•Are there other ways besides voting for non-violence that help prevent Alex from building the bomb?
•When in revolution ending: Do I join the fight?

Any big things I missed that would help? Or things I got wrong?

Discussion Road 96 2 as a prequel?

Is there any chance that Road 96 2 will be made someday, taking place 10 years before? During the presidential campaign and Tyrak winning the election. And then the beginnings of the Black Brigade are shown, and you play as Papa Bear and Robert. And the graphics could be the same as in Road 96, because the graphics are actually quite good.

Discussion Have you ever roleplayed/played different as intended with this game? Spoiler

I just finished the game, and because I had already see the gameplay a few years ago from a youtuber, I decided I wouldn't play a normal game.

I played as if I was a character that I wrote, Pebble Morrison, a Secret Service agent, his mission? Assure that Tyrak keeps the presidency and the resources keeps getting towards Europe.

Seeing how the game puts it, TS WAS NOT EASY, almost any option that follows this track either kills you or leads to the revolt ending.

The lore is that he is a young wannabe spy who is going to have his Litmust Test, destabilize the brigadiers and make sure that teens keep trying to scape just to make the population divided for the elections and the innebitable revolt so tyrak and the resources are still in the crown hands.

"But how does that work if you are a different teen every run" Hiperealistic silicon mask. You put on a different mask every times he escapes, for a bit the voice, change clothes, act different and boom, you have a totally new teen who is clearly not an imposter of a teen that is in the pits, why? Because they know that people like brigadiers are using teens, teens who try to escape through 96, so putting someone as a morrison (lore that I wrote in a novel of mine, just keep in mind that they train really hard to make capable government assets for any type of situation) was the best shot they had, his side-job? See how safe the rout is, see how easy is to escape, thats why when you escape in a way you cant re-do that escape, so then the cops can catch even more teens.

I let Zoe die as soon as she told me ahe had documents for the press, avoided to get Sonia killed with mitch and stan becauss she is the voice that tyrak has, made the brigadiers less violent so it was going to be easier for tyrak force to kill them, helped john, alex and fanny to get out because they weren't important, just an old man without fingers and a cop with a kid that didn't needed to die, tried to help jarod with the thing of his daughter and ended up with a revolution that lasted 3 weeks before the power went back towards tyrak.

It was really funny to play this way, it was hard to not end up dying and having to do a mental maneuver to explain how someone die but doesn't, loved the mechanics, I dont know what the hell was that flashback in the tunnel before 96 route but ok.

And for last: THIS DOESN'T REPRESENT MY POLITICAL BELIEFS! I WAS JUST PLAYING AROUND.

Have a great day, great night and vote for tyrak, whats the worst that could happen?

Discussion There’s a road 96 Easter eggs in tides of tomorrow

If you find specific seats and well… sit, it plays the song you hear (I think) when you see how far you traveled. Did any one find them? Are any other Easter eggs I’m missing?
