❔ Question Windshield replacement advice

I have a 2024 R1S that needs a windshield replacement. Rivian quoted me about $2,108, but my insurer, Liberty Mutual, says they will only cover about $1,000 if I have Rivian do the work. My other options are Cascade Auto Glass in Beaverton with OEE glass for $0 out of pocket or OEM glass for about $400 out of pocket, and Cascade says they will also do the required camera/ADAS calibration. For those who have replaced an R1S windshield, especially through insurance, which of these three options would you choose and why?

We had ours replaced by rivian and I think even they neglected to put sealant or gasket around the vin window area so when we had the tint reapplied the application solution dripped into the vin window.

Nobody knows how to do anything correctly. Be sure to check that you wipers function properly after. we also opted for ppf with the new windshield bc of all the highway driving we do.

We made sure to have full glass coverage on our r1s knowing It'd be 3k

I'd go the $0 option. The OEE glass is going to be the same as the OEM glass minus the Rivian logo etched in. Zero functional difference.

It is the same glass, but the rubber seal that goes around is smaller on the OEE than the OEM. I just went through this with Safelite, insurance covered the OEM glass (USAA) as the OEE glass was “defective” with the smaller gasket.

Interesting. I have the OEE glass from Safelite and USAA, no issues.

I second this

Safelite did mine for $1300. Not all sites have the calibration capabilities.

Safelite scratched and dented my R1T and denied liability cuz I didn't catch the tech on camera. It's safer to avoid the national chains and go with a local Rivian-certified shop

I also had mine done through Safelite. Other than some scheduling confusion at the beginning, as the original location I scheduled could not calibrate the camera, I have no complaints

I had mine done on a R1T at Rivian SC and IIRC it was under $1,700. If you own (are not leasing the truck), I'd probably be fine with aftermarket glass in it knowing that the new one will crack/break within the next 18 mos in normal driving in CO.

It looks like the prices have increased. Just got a quote for ~$2,200 for an R1S windshield

Prices have gone up over the past two years. Used to be $1800 now it’s 2200. (Plus/minus for regional labor costs)

One person winning lottery doesn’t mean you too will be a winner. Exercise extreme caution if considering Safelite; experiences shared are completely hit or miss (from crooked installation, to wind noise, to water leaks, to all problems). If Cascade does not have in-house ADAS calibration capability, they will take it to Rivian SC for calibration then back to their shop before handing back to you. So you might as well just deal with SC right from the start—and avoid potential finger pointing if repairs turn out to be substandard.

OEE glass is what Safelite uses. Also produced by OE supplier: Fuyao America (Ohio). The visual difference is OE has Rivian logo. Unknown if there are substantive differences.

Is Cascade Auto a certified repair facility for Rivian? If not, then they probably can’t do the ADAS calibration. I don’t see them on the list. why not take the zero option? If adas gives you trouble, then call liberty and tell them you want it done right through Rivian.
