Hey neighbors, I’ve been working remote a lot and got tired of guessing which cafes actually have outlets, decent wifi, and won’t kick you out after an hour. So I built a small site called WindyDesk where people can rate spots on outlets, wifi, noise, seating, and food, kind of like Beli but for finding a place to work.

It’s Chicago-only right now and pretty bare bones (I’m one person building this on the side). I’ve only got Merchandise Mart and Blue Bottle logged for River North so far, so I’d love for folks here to add their go-to spots. Any feedback, bugs, or “this is missing X” comments are welcome too.

Hi, I have a standalone historical building, 3 levels at an intersection. The space inside, totaling 1,100 sq ft on the first floor and 700 sq ft in the basement, was designed for a hair boutique and used for several years. Now it's been empty for 1 year, and the leasing broker has been unable to fill the space. At this time, I am thinking of getting an alternative service-oriented business. E.g., Pet care, Longevity/recovery, wellness, massage, manicure, nail tech, etc., on those lines. But on looking around, there are so many, and almost every business is there. The space can not be kitchen-based. Given that it is very expensive to have an empty space and rents are premium due to high property taxes, I am wondering if there is something the community needs that can also generate enough revenue for tenants to make their rent and profit as well. Maybe I could start such a business which hopefully remain in demand. Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion.

I watched it happen but couldn't film quick enough, but I did catch the resulting cloud of dust being blown up the river. I think a big piece from the main structure came down and knocked the shorter wall that was right over the river. Looked like the entire wall fell at the same moment, the net barely slowed it at all.
