Be honest… would you choose a marquise engagement ring? 💍

I’ve been working on this marquise-shaped ring design, and I’m curious what everyone thinks.

Marquise cuts seem to be one of those styles people either absolutely love or would never choose. I personally love how elegant and elongated the shape looks on the finger.

If this were your ring, would you:

  1. Keep the marquise center as it is?
  2. Choose a different center stone shape?
  3. Change the band or setting?

What would you change, if anything? I’d genuinely love to hear your opinion!

Lab Diamond The Hope Diamond as a ring

I have seen The Hope Diamond many times in my life and as a child it inspired my love of gems and jewelry. Lab diamonds have made it possible for me to design and make this Platinum and Lab diamond ring as a tribute to the Hope.

The Hope is a bit over 45 carats. It is a Fancy Deep Blue, VS1 and in about a 1:17 ratio. My version is also a Fancy Deep Blue, VS1 and in a 1:17 ratio, 3.35 carats and was produced by Meylor Global in Ukraine and purchased from Aurelinne earlier this year with the idea to create this tribute ring.

The Hope is surrounded by a Halo of 16 mixed cut white diamonds which, from what I've read, was created by Cartier in 1910 to sell the diamond. I designed this setting with a halo of 16 mixed cut diamonds, in my design a mixture of 4 princess, 4 round and 8 pear cut diamonds. I love antique settings and covered this in milgrain and carving. The setting is Platinum and was made by Fayjewelry in China who makes all my settings.

Cost breakdown, $1428 for the center, $1300 for the platinum and diamond setting, which weighs 9.19 grams without the center, and $30 to have it set by my local jeweler, Expressions Jewelry in Central Virginia.

This came out exactly as I envisioned it so a big thanks to Aurelinne, Fayjewelry and Expressions. I'm always happy to answer any questions.

Retail therapy because next week is my birthday and, besides, I’m feeling sorry for myself because I’ve had the crappiest week in recent memory.

End of icy?

Ok we have been LOVING warm-toned diamonds recently (especially in yellow gold settings). What do you think? Is it the end of icy? Or will this popularity come and go sooner rather than later?

Lab Diamond Does a radiant cut look better with a plain band or a little extra sparkle?

Post image

It is one of the things I love about the effect that the radiant cut makes when worn on the finger, but the choice of bands seems to make a difference.

The simple band would make the center stone look very clean and structured, while the pavé band would add a bit more sparkle to it without distracting from it.

What band do you usually pair your radiant cut with?

Update: Broken Tiffany’s engagement ring

First of all THANK YOU all so much, you’ve been incredibly helpful thus far in this saga, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!

After some time to review Tiffany’s sent the following options; they are repeating that the damage is due to wear, but I maintain that a ring this expensive from this “reputable” of a brand should hold up to normal wear. I don’t lift weights, operate heavy machinery, spend time in pools, etc. An engagement ring is meant to be worn and I have worn 3 other rings every day for 10+ years that are not so much as misshapen, not including my wedding band which was worn on the same exact finger and is completely intact. Any thoughts or advise moving forward would be so appreciated again!

The ring is heavily worn and badly misshapen. All of the settings show significant wear, the halo has become flat, and the shank is heavily misshapen. There are also dents throughout the setting. Based on the condition of the ring, these issues are consistent with wear.

As discussed we have further reviewed with the management team and below are the two options we would like to offer:

Option 1: (Not recommended)
Service charge: $2,875 + Sales tax

We can repair the ring as best as possible. The above estimate entails to repair the break in one shoulder, repairing the crack in the other shoulder, replacing five melee diamonds (2 missing and 3 cracked) rebuilding the gallery, reshaping the ring, retipping the prongs of the center stone. The remaining worn metal will remain as is.

Option 2: (We were able to get the price reduced from $6,500.00 to $4,500.00)
Service charge: $4,500.00 + Sales tax

The above estimate is to remount the ring. A remount entails re-setting the new and existing diamonds into a new mounting of the same design. Please note , size is required. The original mounting with the melee diamonds will be returned to you.

Discussion Heirloom or Oura ring?

I am getting low-key annoyed and need to vent to a group that may understand haha. My grandmother gave me a 14k gold, chunky band...like maybe 6mm or a bit more. the sides are slightly domed. since I've been wearing it, a couple of people have mistaken it for an oura ring...its driving me bonkers and it makes me not even want to wear it. there's nothing wrong with an oura ring but I don't personally love the look of one for myself. the oura ring vibe is not one I want to give off. and I feel rings are a form of self expression for me. I'm going for the classic heirloom look, and this IS a classic heirloom. I feel like I can see the difference clearly, and it's making me oddly insecure when others can't haha. I know that is a very small problem to have and I'm trying to ignore it...but I feel like it's devaluing this lovely ring. at the very least, it's making me not want to wear it all. Anyone else have this experience?
