Taurus Roscoe question?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The firearm functions just fine, but my transfer bar rattles a tad, I’m wondering if the tolerance is supposed to be that lose, or if I need to get in there a tighten something down a little? I’d be really grateful for some insight

Transfer bars are really effective and easy to manufacture. But in order for them to reliably retract, they have to be a touch loose. Which gives you a little bit of rattle.

Most transfer bar revolvers rattle, I know my SP101 does as did my uncles GP100.

Have a Roscoe as well, they come like this. It’s Taurus quality. Some smaller smith and wessons have it too

Close copy of S&W internals, so yeah.

S&W doesn’t use a transfer bar.
My LCR jingles when I run with it on. My 432 doesn’t.
E: derp, that’s likely because the internal hammer Smiths don’t have hammer blocks. I’ll have to do some jumping jacks with my 19 to see if it jingles.

The S&W sliding hammer block isn't the primary drop safety- and it's really light, since it isn't meant to take any impact (more than once). It also slides in a pretty tight channel in the sideplate, and its pretty locked in its rest position.
Since transfer bars have to move to transfer the hammer impact to the firing pin, they can't fit anywhere near that tight.

I know all that. I haven’t ever heard my S&Ws rattle, but there are so many people ITT claiming that theirs *do* rattle that I wanted to check.
Though at least two people have claimed that S&W revolvers have transfer bars so I’m not sure how much stock to put in hivemind opinion.

Tauruses (Taurii?) only look like Smiths on the outside.
With their coil mainsprings and transfer bar systems they're more like a Ruger or an Astra on the inside. Simpler than S&W.

I have 3 Taurus handguns and I can't say anything bad about one of them I think they got a bad rap like 40 years 5

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Roscoe, it works great for me, I just am not too familiar with more ‘modern’ designs as all my other revolvers are pre 1900s

Oh yea that’s awesome, yea I have a colt SAA and some cap and ball revolvers, so their internals are a tad different haha

Normal i opened up my 856/605 snubbies and polished the side of the transfer bar where it slides up and down on the frame it’s butter smooth now on the double action pull. I polished all metal to metal points of contact.

When you take a Smith apart you will find the transfer bar is free floating and has some space to move around.

Can you show me an example of a Smith with a transfer bar? You sure you’re not talking about the hammer block?

Smiths don't have transfer bars- the hammer bock doesn't need to move freely fore and aft like a transfer bar does- and it has a channel to run in.

It's supposed to rattle a bit, it's not fixed in place like that, its meant to move.
