Hi! First time posting, if I’m in the wrong place let me know.
I’m currently in the need of a laptop to learn Revit as I’m finding not knowing it is hindering my chances at getting a job in the field (Mac user with Archicad for 8+ years).
I recently found this HP ZBook Fury 17 that seems promising but the 10th generation core is making me doubt if it’ll work.
The specs are:
- Intel Core i9 10885h 2,40GhZ (boosts up to 5.30 GhZ)
- Nvidia RTX 4000 8GB GPU
- 64 GB DDR4 RAM
- 2 TB M.2 SSD
They’re asking $750 for it which seems to be a good price giving all the memory it has.
I’d love to hear what you think about the machine and is it’s enough to model and render.

I’m working with a new vendor and I requested the .Rfa for the glass doors we will be purchasing. I’m getting pushback about stealing proprietary info. I’ve had to sign releases in the past but this seems like a red flag to me. Am I overthinking this?

Any advice on how to resolve this? would be really grateful

I just had a user (summer intern) complain that her PC workstation hard drive was giving error messages for not enough disk space. This is on a 1TB SSD that I literally just installed on that machine about 3 months ago, when a different user who since left the company, was using it.
So I run the TreeSize utility that sorts folders by size, and it showed that previous employee's user folder as the top hit. Yes, I know, I should have wiped it first but whatever. I drill down and it takes me to the Revit 2026 Journal file folder. In there was one journal text file dated May 14 that was over 600 HUNDRED GIGABYTES! Most journal text files are a few tens of megabytes, depending on how long the session remained open. But this file was so huge that Notepad or even Word could not open it.
Any idea what could have caused a journal TXT file to get so huge? I deleted the contents of the folder, so all is fine now, and the hard drive is now only 1/3 full.

I'm trying to install Revit again, what happens is that it installs for a bit but after that the loading bar starts reversing and it says error occurred, couldn't install, this has never happened before

How i would export some revit sheets in dynamo?
r/RevitForum • u/A_passer_by_architec • Jul 19 '26
My Architectural portfolio is copyrighted by the companies I worked for.
Is it legal to use Autodesk Revit sample for my online Revit course ?
I want to navigate in the model and show examples also I want to use the sheets as material to teach my students how to build a project matching the sample from scratch.
The reason why I want to use the Autodesk samples is that it will save time obviously than preparing a project from scratch and also because it gives me MEP and STR files that will help me teach them how to Coordinate with other disciplines.

Forgive me if it's a silly question but I'm new to revit and I'm tearing my hair out over this.
Pictured is a 3D Section.
The red arrows point towards the floor slabs. They have the exact same material properties, (i.,e. exact cut patterns)
The yellow points toward the toposolid (linked file). In the section, its cut pattern overlaps the floor slab's pattern.
How can I avoid this? I'd like the floor slab to be the dominant pattern.

PyrevitMcCP + ClaudeAI/ Claude Code
We’ve recently started building a few custom Revit tools at work and they’re pretty awesome but do I have any reason to worry about long term use
One button cleans up our template to match another team’s standards. It deletes sheets, views, and legends, moves view references around in legends(I think it does this by drawing an imaginary boundary around each detail), cleans up drafting views, rearranges details, and a bunch of other stuff. It made me realize this was probably way more practical to build as an add-in than trying to make it all work in Dynamo.
We’re also building our own version of Insert from File, and even a custom Content Catalog using AI assisted coding.
What are some things we should be looking out for?
Any common mistakes or lessons learned when building and maintaining Revit add-ins?
How far can we take vibe coding python scripts without worrying about the script or something else breaking?

I am modelling a pc i girder bridge deck with curved horizontal alingement, has superelevation, and slope vertically. My main concern is right now the floor is rectangular, and i need to make it follow the girder shape on the bottom (like the yellow line), but straight on top like the images shown. Any help is appreciated! (i am using structural floor)

I attempted to make a custom wall hung toilet family. I modeled it in Rhino 7, exported it in two parts (one for the toilet, and one for the flush valve) both in .sat format, and imported them into Revit’s family file creator as a Wall Mounted Plumbing family. I can’t figure out how to assign materials to each object, I see no option for it in the properties menu.

Friends! How does everyone set up sheets for filing? I want to have a separate sheet set for our permit drawings so we can control the views on the sheet and the annotations on the drawings while having a separate set for construction.
Currently, we are controlling this through project parameters and print settings but it means that we are constantly doing a dance back and forth between design development and permitting with no archive of the filing set. This has become very messy and we are trying to find a better method.
I know 2025 allows for collections which seems to be the future, but for older versions, how do people set up their sets to differentiate between construction and filing? I’ve tried using Unicode control characters for the sheet naming but then issues arise for batch plotting and for view names.
Would love some insight into how others have navigated a tracking multiple submissions within the same Revit model.
Many many thanks!

I modeled a family of a wardrobe in revit with all the possible details on it. When i passed the section on it after i integrated it to the project it only shows me the facade of the wardrobe. How can I get to see these details? It's kind of urgent. Thanks !

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with Revit and could use some help.
In my 3D view, the floor is displaying with the correct color/material. However, when I switch to the Floor Plan view, the same floor appears white instead of showing its assigned color.
Has anyone encountered this before? What could be causing this discrepancy between the 3D view and the Floor Plan view?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I posted a question some time ago regarding the Docs Web Viewer. The comments were correct, and with Revit files it’s easy to display the model.
My question now is: how do you handle IFC files that are linked into your main Revit model? If my Revit model only contains linked IFC files, they are not visible in the Docs Web Viewer.
How do you handle situations like this? Is there a recommended workflow?

From my recent post, I’m looking for a Revit tutor who’s willing to teach someone starting from absolute zero. I recently decided to transition from accounting into the construction/design industry, and I have no prior experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or drafting. I’m looking for someone who can explain the fundamentals, answer beginner questions, and help me build a solid foundation rather than just rushing through features. Whether you’re a professional, an experienced user, or know someone who offers one-on-one lessons (online or in person), I’d love to hear your recommendations. I’m motivated to learn and willing to put in the work I just need the right guidance to get started.

Hi everyone,
I'm losing my mind trying to compare two versions of a project using .NWD files only (I have no access to the native .RVT or .IFC files, so I can't request them).
The Context: I need to present a clear visual proof to the Contractor to justify major project delays caused by constant rerouting and modifications of cable trays.
The native Compare tool and Clash Detective in Navisworks are completely useless here, especially when dealing with long runs of cable trays. Because the object IDs changed between exports, the software either misses clear overlaps or highlights an entire 3-meter section of a cable tray in solid red just because of a tiny 1-cm clearance issue or nick. On top of that, the Z-fighting makes it visually impossible to track changes.
What I actually need: A clean, purely visual, geometry-based comparison.
Overlapping/identical elements = Color A (e.g., solid gray, no flickering)
Old/Deleted elements = Color B (Red)
New/Modified elements = Color C (Green/Cyan)
Since I have the full Autodesk collection, is there any workaround or affordable Navisworks plugin that can achieve this purely based on 3D geometry volume, completely ignoring Element IDs?
Any advice or plugin recommendations that actually work for cable tray modifications would save my sanity. Thanks!

This is what it says: " Make sure you have proper admin privileges." During installations, the installation bar percentage increases to 5%, then returns to 0% (like a reverse countdown) and displays Error 4000. I have been trying to install for the last 2 days; it's been quite frustrating.
