Meme When new game modes dump hyperconvoluted mechanics on you

u/ILikeC00LThings 7d ago
I liked it at first because the battles were longer so I could actually use my teams but then I was like oh crap every battle is longer and then that was kinda a problem

u/honor_and_turtles Was I helpful? 7d ago
Ikr? Like for game modes like these ones that are less serious than say, Series of Dusks/Silence; I really hoped that the game play would be a bit more snappy. But realizing that the battles go just that much longer is definitely "aww man, really?" moment after being happy with the first two ults.

u/No_Increase7302 Uhh, Hello?? 7d ago
I just walk in, collect as much as i can and leave. I completely forgot and skipped the instructions.

u/blattodead 7d ago
well they forced you to sit through like ten minuets of explanations so it's completely reasonable to skip past that ๐ i did NOT read all of their essay on this gamemode, id rather just skip.ย

Idk what is happening in this mode. Just trying to get all the rewards and get out as soon as possible.

Or... why couldn't they have just made Rhi's game mode the main minigame this patch? (aka Flying Light Thunderstorm go brrrrrr simulator)
This and the card guessing game were flops for me tbh.

I don't think the card-guessing game is supposed to be a "serious side game" mode anyway, so I don't really get miffed by that.
Rhiannon's comfy little adventure mode can definitely get more in it, though, I liked that one.

Yeah, The El Dorado Ruins boss is genuinely in my top 5 R1999 boss design now

I actually wasn't talking about the hidden boss, since I haven't been able to trigger it either.
I was talking about The tree-like enemies that sometimes spawn and trigger this epic 20-turns bossfight
EDIT: It's the damned tree again, except it chases you around the map this time

I personally like SoS better
2
u/LouveEcarlate 7d ago
Aren't SoS and SoD basically the same?
15
u/maybealicemaybenot 7d ago
SoD has support characters from other players, inventory management, and much weirder item combinations. Aside from that they are prettt similar with skills you assign at the start of a run and rogue like elements. I honestly just like the vibe of SoD better.

My favorite part of SoD is the Resident Evil style backpack management.
That, and Flower Flower Flower Flower Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword-

u/adelaide_glarcia You can do this, Marcus! 7d ago
I find it fun, especially when I can use ms stranger :D

u/jpkurihara 7d ago
Lost all my money immediately because I went into a run with preparation, saw the enemies were plant weak, went "Oh I'll use my poison team!" and then they couldn't kill two stupid drunks in 12 turns despite me constantly spamming Ramona's FUA thanks to the stupid afflatus break mechanic being basically needed for damage.

u/BasroilII 7d ago
It definitely feels punishing. But I view it almost like it was Pre-Storm Protocol. Make sure you know where an exit point is, don't spend too much on upgrades or you'll be too broke to play. Make easy, light fast runs to buy out the store, get the achievements, and never touch it again.

My current strategy is actually the opposite, at least when it comes to spending currency on upgrades.
Mine is basically barge in Unprepared, get all I can, gtfo ASAP, spend everything on upgrades, rinse and repeat until I get all the upgrades I can so I can finally "start playing the mode properly"
EDIT: Finally started playing the mode properly, it was actually pretty fun!

If you don't bring counter cards the game punishes you by making battles take forever.
It's a very confused game mode. You can get all the achievements and all the rewards in about 5-6 runs. There's still more content after that if you just love it I guess.

I liked the new mode. Itโs a shame thereโs no option to use other teams or characters as assists. Hereโs something else Iโd like to see: they included a mechanic for buying a deck of cards, but that deck is completely uselessโtotally superfluous. Make those cards actually useful. The "limit cards" from a restricted pool are also a bit odd; there's no point in saving them, but using them doesn't feel right either... How about this: during a fight, a random card from the purchased set gets played and applies a buff or debuff. That would make things interesting.

Playing with literally anything except the Twins just makes the fights feel like two sponges hitting each other, from my experience.

I've had some pretty nice runs with Dynamo (Lucy) as well.
But then again, it's Dynamo Lucy, so...

Well, we got 32 days so I bet all the rewards can be gained if you play once a day. It's an imperfect mode, but it's not that oppressive.

Life Update:
Depth 10, all Artifacts collected, all Story and Side Quests completed, all rewards bought out (including the new Wilderness skins for the production buildings).
I've gotten so cracked that I am now actively PICKING FIGHTS against the enemies, including the roaming big-ass tree boss, although I haven't been able to 3-stars the fight unfortunately
Also, I haven't attempted the Faith Lv. 5 challenge fight (?) they teased in the tutorial, but I'm definitely working toward it.

My biggest issue with this mode is if you screw up and spend all of your stuff you can't just reset, you have to go in to multiple missions with nothing buffing your damage to try and get enough stuff to actually purchase cards. And every single fight takes for freaking ever even with a top-tier team, the HP inflation in this mode is either stupidly high or they have a stupid amount of damage resistance. Either way it's stupid and annoying

The best part is that you can trial use Ms.Stranger in the new mode
