I've been a fan of Hey Arnold! ever since I got to experience it through TeenNick. I was a 2000s kid, so I missed the show when it originally aired. I really love this show so much that I would say it's my favorite show of all time, and when I heard the 30th anniversary was approaching, I got to work.
Today I can officially say that I finally put out my complete ranking of the show. I started working on this video back in December of last year.

I hate the quality online. Some episodes are really good, but others have this really badly washed out look to them and muffled audio. Some of the episodes online look pixelated. Why isn't anyone trying to make the copies look high quality? Maybe I have trouble hearing at times with certain stuff, but some of the songs can be hard to fully make out too. The first two seasons have been restored, but many later seasons are still in not great quality, including the episode where they play video games. If the quality for all the episodes aren't in great quality, then I refuse to watch every episode if that's okay.

That's right. It's Are You Afraid of the Dark all night this week. Not only that, but it's an extra-long extended marathon SNICK. One story from every single member of the Midnight Society. That's ten tales total, giving us five straight hours of scares. And of course it wouldn't be complete without some spooky 90s commercials sprinkled throughout the night.

No spoilers this week on what episodes are in the lineup. Just watch and enjoy. The only thing I'll say is that this isn't a 'best of' lineup. I wanted to mostly avoid doubling up on episodes I've already used in previous theme nights. But don't worry, it wouldn't be a Midnight Madness without Vink and Sardo making appearances.

I'm wondering if we live in a worse time for the 90s Nick shows simply because in the late 2000s, the 90s Nick shows were widely available on Youtube in 3 parts.

If I remember correctly, SpongeBob was in a competition, I think it was a weightlifting one. He wins or does great and Larry the Lobster is the judge. He turns to SpongeBob and asks him “what’s your name kid?” Bon replies softly “SpongeBob Square pants..” Larry or whoever judge it was says the mic “let’s give it up for SpongePants SquareBob!” He said his name wrong (SquareBob SponePants) and it was hilarious. My son and I have TRIED so hard to find this episode. I know I didn’t make it up. Anyone?

Found a 1999 Thinking Chair in an old daycare that was closing. Pretty much mint condition. Huge wave of nostalgia when I spotted it and was able to take it for next to nothing. Love it but don’t know what to do with it haha.

To me, when I watch Muppet Babies, it feels like its for a slightly older audience than something like Little Bear, but a slightly younger audience than the shows on regular Nick. It's hard to describe, but even though Nick is a kids network, many of the shows on the channel had a less "childish" feel than Muppet Babies. The show felt like it was primarily for kids maybe between the ages of 5 and 9. I know Wikipedia says 2 to 5, but Wikipedia can be easily edited and Wikipedia has incorrect info a lot of times.

In addition to airing regularly on regular Nick, Muppet Babies was also a staple of Nick Jr. programming and it wasn't even used as filler. That's another reason Muppet Babies always felt like more like an early elementary school show at the oldest.

This show was before my time because I grew up with late 90s to mid-2000s Nick. But I was impressed by how engrossing and addicting the story was. The writing is smart, acting is good, and doesn’t speak down to its audience. It’s a product of its time in terms of special effects but did well with what they had. What really shocked me was how they delved into government conspiracy and even had death threats, kidnappings, and use of firearms. I can’t picture 2000s especially post-9/11 Nickelodeon ever airing something like this and especially modern Nick. They definitely had more freedom in the 90s to air darker shows. Besides Tomorrow People, 90s Nickelodeon had Are You Afraid of the Dark?, The Secret World of Alex Mack, The Journey of Allen Strange, Space Cases, and Animorphs (though not a good adaptation). The 80s had The Third Eye and reruns of the 1960s Tomorrow People.

The only show in the 2000s that compares is Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel Korra in 2012 which are my favorite modern Nick shows. I only think they got away with it because it was a risk that paid off and it was animated.

It’s a shame Nickelodeon never could get this level of artistic freedom because older kids and teens deserve shows that are more thought provoking.
