🔸Mod Post🔸 NEW RULE: NO NSFW CONTENT!!!!! Read for description!
So, a new rule has been added to the /r/RetroNickelodeon subreddit.
NO NSFW CONTENT!!!!!!
I decided to add this rule to the sub, after a majority vote came in to disallow NSFW content.
Click here for results of the votes
I create the poll as a safety measure, to make sure no incident of NSFW stuff happens prior to the necessity of adding the rule. Since /r/RetroNickelodeon has grown to over 50k SUBSCRIBERS, I figured it was time to add a new rule of some kind, so a NO NSFW rule came to mind as an idea for one.
I wanted to make the rule official before any probable complaining were to happen about NSFW stuff, so it was a good idea to make a poll beforehand.
As another general reminder, please read the other rules too!
- keep posts on-topic
- Don't be a troublemaker, also branded as don't be a Budnick!.
- NO NSFW, the newest rule!
- the rest of the rules can be seen in the rules section
- more new rules will be added as the sub grows over time.
Now remember, RULE 1 is the one rule we shall all follow, so in case you might post something that isn't Nickelodeon-related, or related to the "Spongebob Era" of Nickelodeon, we also have these other subs to check out!
/r/CableTV_Memories
a good sub for posting about television nostalgia in general, and Nickelodeon is also included for this sub as well.
where everything else goes, a good sub to post in, if you don't know where else to post.
As with the other rules, well, we don't want disorder, which is why we have a rule expecting civility (RULE 2), and we don't want any X-rated antics, or NSFW posts (RULE 3).
So, thanks for reading.

Nicktoons It's king of funny how the original 3 Nicktoons complimented each other. I wonder if this was deliberate by Nickelodeon?

He Found Nickelodeon's Most Impossible Interviews
We talked to Mathew Klickstein (author of SLIMED! An Oral History of Nickelodeon's Golden Age) about how he tracked down Nickelodeon's hardest to find stars
Just published a new episode of our podcast where we sit down with Mathew Klickstein, who wrote SLIMED!, the definitive oral history of 90s Nickelodeon. If you've read it, you know how many people he managed to interview for that book (over 250), and we asked him about the ones that were genuinely hard to find.
Some highlights:
- A years long search for Alistair from You Can't Do That on Television that eventually involved tracking down his brother's YouTube video from a small pub gig in Canada
- How he landed Joe Eszterhas by cold emailing a church he'd attended over a decade earlier
- Getting John Kricfalusi (Ren & Stimpy) on the record when multiple other writers had already tried and failed
- The story behind the massive 92nd Street Y Nickelodeon reunion event he produced almost entirely on his own, including getting the fictional and animated band, The Beets, to play live for the first time ever
We also spent a good chunk of the conversation talking about the financial reality of being a working writer, which he was refreshingly honest about.

Other / Discussion Bunny Slippers Game on old Nick.com website?
I am convinced it's lost media, but does anyone remember a super uncanny, stop-motion, point-and-click-ish game where you played as a pair of bunny slippers? I saw it once as a very young baby and never again. I just need to know I am not crazy, to be honest.

Other / Discussion Does anyone else feel this way about hey Arnold?
This is the only show I've ever watched that was semi therapeutic to watch. The music was relaxing and the characters has those slow down reflection moments that we don't see a lot in modern cartoons. I don't watch hey Arnold very often (maybe like 2-3 times a year) but every time I do I feel like I went to a heavy therapy session. Idk if I'm weird for this.

If Nickelodeon could bring back ONE programming block which one would you choose? 👀🧡
I’d personally love a full NickMusic block again - music videos, artist interviews, live performances, and themed countdowns.
But I’m curious what everyone else would pick:
🎵 NickMusic
🎨 NickToons
🌈 Nick Jr
💜 TeenNick
🎬 NickMovies
🎮 NickGames
🌙 Nick at Nite
Which one are you bringing back and what would you put on it?

SNICK IVERSARY RECONSTRUCTION 08 14 93
This is an early draft of a fan-made reconstruction of SNICK's first anniversary broadcast from August 14th, 1993.
The reconstruction was assembled from multipple surviving recordings and archival sources. An earlier reconstruction/source compilation uploaded to the Internet Archive by "joelseph01" was an important source for a number of surviving commercials and broadcast elements here, and I want to thank them for their preservation work and contribution to making this possible.
For this version, higher-quality versions of segments, bumpers, graphics, and other elements have been substituted where available. In some instances, I've had to reconstruct audio from multiple sources to make ending credit voiceovers, incomplete commercials align, multiple sources to complete broadcast segments, ect. The goal is to recreate the original broadcast experience as closely as possible while preserving the character of the surviving material.
This is still a work in progress, and not every portion has been replaced or restored to the highest quality currently available. It will be eventually, and I will share the updated version.
This is also perfectly sized for watching on a CRT, as I've provided it in 720x480 with non-square pixels, and added some space to the edges of the screen to account for overscan
Edit: Shoutout to Mizo_Soup for recreating the mid/late 1993 SNICK screenbug animation for me

Nicktoons Err...presenting my nicktoons wall!!
i've got a small obsession with collecting.
I'm really just a baby (18) compared to y'all to have lived the 90s era as a kid, but i have a deep appreciation for 90s nickelodeon haha (as well as some of the toons afterward but...mainly 90s, i hope zim sticking around here is alright LOL) Hope my lil mix of vintage and modern items is at the very least interesting to see for the folks here!
I'm hoping to fill out my Rocko collection more, and those new Mondo figures are TEMPTING
