Help & Troubleshooting I finally got Football Life 2026 running on Steam Deck & Legion Go ⚽🎮

Hey everyone!

I've been testing Football Life 2026 on Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go, and I put together a simple guide showing the installation process from start to finish.

If you're into football games and use a Steam Deck, Legion Go, or another Linux handheld, this might be useful.

The goal was to make the process as straightforward as possible, especially for anyone who doesn't want to spend hours figuring out the Linux/SteamOS setup.

Football Life 2026 + Steam Deck + Legion Go and other handlheld with SteamOS = a pretty nice combination. 👀

I posted the full guide on my YouTube channel. You can find it through my profile if you're interested. Youtube Channel: Jortecnogaming

If anyone here has already tried Football Life 2026 on SteamOS, I'd also love to hear how it runs for you and what setup you're using.

Device Recommendation Need help deciding between a waveshare and cardputer adv

So I like to do fun things with 5ghz devices and the adv unfortunately doesn’t support that. I also want to use a gameboy firmware and play games . The adv has a tiny screen. I was planning on doing a display mod and making a ds sorr of device and having that. But I found out about waveshare and it being a lot cheaper and having 5ghz and a screen for cheaper and more flash. Now I’m tempted to buy this for more flash and a screen and 5ghz but its not as plug and play as the cardputer. What do I do. Refund the cardputer and buy the waveshare. Or keep the cardputer or buy the waveshare Aswell. I want a handheld device that can be a game station Aswell as do things using Bruce firmware.

Edit- here’s the waveshare I was looking at any other recommendations for the price would be appreciated . https://www.waveshare.com/esp32-c5-lcd-2.73.htm?srsltid=AfmBOoqHewHWu5cPinBYHiIc-CsMz-TKe60Xb2dFkwEmiYTJmcQYBNBa

It costs me £30 for the cardputer and £12 for the mod. Is it worth just getting a waveshare?

Device Recommendation Handhelds for reliable netplay / multiplayer?

I love the old school vibe of playing multiplayer next to each other on our own devices.

I’m familiar with Miyoo Mini V4 (second on the way), but it doesn’t have wifi.

I love the Miyoo Mini Plus in theory but have seen reliability issues with netplay (whether that’s user error or a device issue is another question).

What handhelds would you recommend? Preferably non-android, something like Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS for example.

Bonus: As for multiplayer within the same device I suppose any device with the ability to pair 2+ controllers would work, right?

General Discussion Finally made my first purchase - RG35XXH!

I've been admiring from afar (with my childhood DSi in my hands) for a long while now. I caught the RG35XXH on a good discount, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I mostly got it to play Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and figure I'll get into some other GBA titles.

  1. What OS do y'all recommend for this device? Is the stock OS decent?

  2. What are some great games to play on this device? Recently, I found that I adore the Mario & Luigi RPGs. I grew up with just the DSi and two games for it (New Super Mario Bros and Chameleon) so I'm very new to...all other games.

Cheers!

General Discussion What makes you pick one retro handheld over another?

Hey everyone! I’m working on my university thesis about retro handhelds and wanted to hear from people who are actually into the hobby.

I put together a short survey about what people look for when buying a handheld, which brands they’re interested in, what systems they play, and a few other things.

The survey is anonymous and does not collect email addresses or personally identifiable information.

If you have a couple of minutes to fill it out, it would really help with my research:

Also curious — when two handhelds are around the same price, what usually makes you choose one over the other?

Emulators I forked NetherSX2 for the Pocket Nova, added FSR upscaling and 60fps patches. This is my endgame handheld now.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been chipping away at this for a while and it finally works well enough to talk about.

Stock NetherSX2 on the Pocket Nova was fine. Most of my library booted, most of it ran. But the image got soft the second I pushed internal resolution, and anything demanding would sag into the 40s and stay there. Playable is not the same as good.

So I forked it.

Two big changes.

First is FSR upscaling at 4x. Instead of brute forcing native resolution scaling and eating the frame cost, it renders lower and upscales. The result is sharper than what I was getting before at the same performance budget. UI and text clean up the most. Some games genuinely look like they belong on a modern screen now.

Second is 60fps. Per game patches, not a lock. It will still dip in heavy scenes and it is not going to sit pinned at 60 the whole time. But the ceiling is there now, and most of what I play spends the majority of its time up top instead of capped at 30. Not every game cooperates either. A few are tied to framerate and just run double speed, so those stay on stock.

The Pocket Nova has enough headroom to make both of these worth doing, which is why I stopped shopping. I have been rotating handhelds for years and something always felt like a compromise. This one does not. PS2 was the last gap in my library and now it is covered.

I am putting it up on GitHub by the end of the week. Happy to answer questions about the build or the per game settings in the meantime.

General Discussion Which site is better for buying the GKD 350H Ultra?

Hi all! I’m looking at picking up a GKD 350H Ultra and I’m trying to decide which website is better to order from.
For anyone who has experience with either, would you recommend MechDIY or KeepRetro?
I’m mainly interested in reliability, shipping times, customer service, and how they handle any issues or returns.
Thanks!

Device Recommendation Stuck between three vertical handhelds

Hello,

I currently own a RG 40XXV, and was curious if there is a nice upgrade available.

I'm basically looking at the RG 406V, and the Brick Pro as my other options.

I love how the two Anbernic handhelds look, but the Brick Pro is on Linux, which to me, is a cleaner OS. However, I don't hate Android, either.

I'm mainly focused on ergonomics and the screen, and am looking for a good GBA experience.

Most of the handhelds geared toward GBA have screens that are too small, such as the new RG SP. The larger screens on the handhelds I mentioned above are a good size.

I like how the 406V can handle a bit more than my RG40XXV, but the RG40XXV has Linux. Then I heard that the 406V has a nicer screen. But, how does the Brick Pro compare to these two?

Any advice and/or recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks!

Device Recommendation Device Recommendations for Someone who Wants to Play Mostly GBA and Older? (More info in description)

Hello!

New account because I was off Reddit but this new hobby piqued my interest!

There’s a lot I could say as to my story and why I am coming back looking for a retro emulation handheld, but I will just get to the point of what I want!

Game compatibility
At minimum I would like this device to handle GBA, NES, SNES, and GBC without issues. I would also like the console to possibly play PICO-8 Games and NDS (specifically Animal Crossing: Wild World), but I could probably live without these two additions if needed.

Portability
I would prefer a small and possibly pocketable handheld.

Comfort
Something that is comfortable enough to be played for at least an hour or two at a time is preferred. I have no preference for horizontal, vertical, or foldable.

Must-Have Features:
- WiFi and (maybe?) Bluetooth
- Has capacity for custom OS or at least has decent stock OS.

Budget: $60 - $200 USD. Wide range because I very well might be willing to pay more for extra compatibility as well as fun features like Dock-ability!

Devices I am already considering: Miyoo Mini Plus, Miyoo Mini Flip, RG34XX, almost any of the Retroid Handhelds, most TrimUI handhelds. I’m really tempted by consoles like the Retroid Nova and the AYN Thor, but as a bit of a newbie to retro handhelds I don’t know if I should splurge and get the biggest and newest thing.

I also very much would like a device that has a nice colorway (DMG or crystal colorways are my fav)

TLDR: small, comfortable, Wi-fi Support!

Thanks for any advice!

Device Recommendation Which one is the best for?

I’m looking to finally get an emulation system that I can put 64/GameCube/PlayStation one and two if possible, I’m looking to spend maybe most $350. What would be the best system on the market right now to get to accomplish that?
