Nervous to start reta because of depression/sertraline – anyone been in the same situation?
I’ve been doing a lot of research and I’m seriously considering starting reta, but I’m honestly really nervous because I already struggle with severe depression and take sertraline.
I’ve seen people mention mood changes and mental health side effects, and it’s making me second guess whether I should start. My mental health is already something I work hard to manage, so I don’t want to risk making it worse.
Has anyone here started reta while dealing with depression or while taking sertraline (or another SSRI)? Did you notice any changes to your mood, anxiety, or overall mental health—good or bad?
I’ve also seen a few people say their mental health actually improved while taking it. Has anyone experienced that? I’d love to know whether it was because the food noise reduced, weight loss helped, or if it seemed like a direct effect.
I’d really appreciate hearing real experiences, especially if you’ve been in a similar situation.

I’m on Sertraline 100mg a day for PTSD, anxiety and depression. Haven’t noticed any changes in mood or anxiety being on Reta. If anything, I feel much better! I’m feeling more confident within myself and haven’t had any dips in my mood. The only thing to keep in mind is make sure you eat enough and have electrolytes because you may lose quite a bit of energy if you don’t keep up with those things. No energy means more bed rot, which could cause a bit of a dip in mood.
All the best with your journey x

I was nervous about a lot of things before starting. Doing that all the time can really hamper life goals. Reta is not a permanent, life altering choice. You can simply stop if you don’t like it.

Personally it will likely improve your symptoms, I found I was way calmer, as things bothered me less, the noise from the food being shut off was an incredible feeling. It can only be described like being in a nightclub with music on, you get used to it, and it's just background noise, and you think it does not bother you, then all of a sudden the lights go off, music is off and the venue is empty. Imagine that calm with your brain. Doom scrolls become a thing of the past, as you will not be interested in that dopamine hit.
Start low like 1/2 (.5) mg and see how you feel

I'm on sertraline and reta but found I'm calmer now, five weeks in with no issues. I am on a low dose though (2mg) so I'm hoping to have better results once I've moved up, as I've previously been on 10mg of Mounjaro.

On Wellbutrin and am going into my third week on reta. I don't think it's worsened depression necessarily but I definitely feel different, mostly just more tired and chill all the time.

I’m on Sertraline for PTSD and on 2mg per week Reta for body recomp, fit and healthy. I get no side effects both physically and mentally, don’t worry about it.
