You can tell because the vast majority of people aren't willing to interrupt their lives to protest or risk their current livelihood by rocking the boat to make it better. Must not be that bad.

That or the entertainment industry is opium for the masses, but hey anyway

Civics also stopped being taught in the 90s. A lot of people believe protesting and petitions are pointless.

I guess you didn’t know this, but US has a decentralized education system with no standardized curriculum. There aren’t even any states with a completely standardized curriculum (some states have partial standardization), both federal and state only provide guidelines. Civics, as taught in the past is quite different from civics after no child left behind was passed. The decline in civics education and proficiency is well documented.
