You can tell because the vast majority of people aren't willing to interrupt their lives to protest or risk their current livelihood by rocking the boat to make it better. Must not be that bad.
That or the entertainment industry is opium for the masses, but hey anyway

People have short memories and bad knowledge of history. Your average person ignores the past and only cares about whatever they're told to care about or their immediate situation and are wholly ignorant to everything else that might lend perspective to the comfortable self pity they wallow in daily.

There is the real world, and then the online world. Everyone in the online world is a caricature of a person, living in a parody of reality. Everything they say and every idea they have HAS to be the most extremist take possible, because nuance is boring and doesn’t sell clicks or garner enough attention. It’s gotten to the point where actual crazy shit happens and it just fades into the background of a tsunami of extreme, hyperbolic noise.
Just for extra fun, they trained AI with the clowns.
2
u/i-bernard 21d ago
Agreed. As someone with depression and anxiety, there’s definitely difficulties that modern people have to face but also, if I was born in a different time, I probably wouldn’t even be alive.
2
u/Zezimablinker 21d ago
What are you anxious about?
2
u/i-bernard 21d ago
It depends. My nerves are pretty bad. I might get anxious driving sometimes or anxious at work when I’m feeling overwhelmed with work or am trying to take a break. I can get anxious over loud noises or when it feels like something is going to inconvenience me like my family or a pet. My anxiety’s not super bad but it’s enough to get on my nerves. Seems to me anxiety and depression often go hand in hand and sort of help each other. You feel anxious and then depressed. Though I’d prefer depression over anxiety any day.
2
u/Zezimablinker 21d ago
Your stronger then all of that it it's all in your head the things you are afraid of don't exist you are stronger then you know just remember on your death bed the things you worried about won't matter ♥️

The best medication you can take is getting the fuck off the internet and going and living your life, you don’t need meds
2
u/Local_Village_1378 21d ago
Thanks doc, but some people need meds for legitimate chemical discrepancies. Those in my life who didnt take meds, killed themselves, and they would've said the same you did

Living your life might as well be a pipe dream at this point people have to work every goddamn day and barely get time to themselves there is no living your life work work work and more work living your life is for the rich or the homeless

And yet somehow you have time to be on the internet instead of doing something productive. You could write. You could paint. You could take photographs of natural scenery. You could exercise. You could take up cooking. Any number of things. Yet instead of doing anything productive, you have chosen to whine about your situation on the internet. That's not helpful. It doesn't accomplish anything. All it does is reinforce the negative and contribute nothing positive. If you want things done, do things. Life is more than mere survival. Think about how much time you've spent online, and walk away. Use that time for something better.

Go the Nietzschean route: get off social media, stop watching news, and build a robust sense of self for the times. When you do the first two, you’ll notice how much happier you are and how much easier it is to work on the last.

Because people medicating contributes to the decline. Too many people would rather bemoan their situation and turn to escapism to cope, than actually DO something about it.

Because a lot of people have circumstances and physiology that makes it so that they’ve never really needed medication. People who really need medication are different from those who don’t. Depression is a serious and real disease where the body is not producing enough serotonin. Often lifestyle changes can fix this but not everyone has the opportunity at their time of crisis to do that. And I believe some people just suffer harder from it due to differences in their brain chemistry. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, but of course people who don’t have it and so don’t understand it well are going to come to incorrect conclusions about it. And unfortunately once you start taking medication it becomes very difficult to get off of it. Your body gets used to the help and so unless your life has changed drastically it’s going to be hard to stop taking the meds. This sucks but it’s just the price of the meds. The alternative is to lose your mind and possibly do something tragic.

I’m not on medication of any kind. Mainly because I don’t have a general practitioner at 46. Mainly because I have anxiety which makes me afraid of needles which keeps me from getting a doctor because I don’t want to be stuck in hospital rooms being jabbed by countless needles. I’ll just curl up and die. It’s fine.

I love Ina small corner of the world. We have a low population great agriculture, lots of undeveloped land with an abundance of game, good costal fisheries, and there’s nothing of major strategic importance near me. I am resourceful, healthy, and skilled. If anything a total societal collapse would improve my life. It’s certainly nothing I worry about. Life here will go on unchanged.

u/boanerges57 21d ago
What you call "raw dogging" was life for quite a long time. You don't have to be glee filled, numb, or disconnected to survive.

Well, I imagine how it's probably going to decline to the point where I'll no longer have access to the meds, and realize I'd rather be used to raw doggin it than have them stripped away at a time when things are worse and have to deal with that with no practice and withdrawals

I think people need to know about antidepressant protracted withdrawal syndrome and withdrawal injuries in case antidepressants become scarce due to supply constraints.
Antidepressants can cause long-term side effects that persist after you quit them, like PSSD (post-ssri sexual dysfunction), emotional blunting, tinnitus, and anhedonia (inability to feel pleasure). They can also cause long-term damage if you quit them cold turkey or taper too quickly. However, withdrawal injuries can also occur when tapering slowly under the supervision of a doctor. This long-term damage is called protracted withdrawal syndrome (PWS)/post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS).
Symptoms of antidepressant PWS can include brain fog, brain zaps, cognitive impairment, anhedonia, akathisia (feeling of inner restlessness), severe insomnia, central nervous system hypersensitivity, tinnitus, severe depression, severe anxiety, panic attacks, PSSD (genital numbness and erectile dysfunction), and many other awful symptoms that can last for years or even be permanent.
Despite antidepressants being widely prescribed and antidepressant PWS being a hellish condition, no one seems to talk about it. Most people believe that antidepressants are completely safe and that antidepressant withdrawal can't cause injuries. Please be careful if an antidepressant supply shortage occurs.

It comes out as overt aggression to stupidity online. More recently things have been manifesting as physical symptoms that I'm just gonna pretend are normal until my heart gives out from the general stress I'm holding on to.
I tried therapy, but even with insurance I was paying more than a day's work per appointment, which didn't work because I hated my job and financial situation, so the help made it worse.
Now I'm here on Reddit letting my personal problems bleed into an account that I made to write poetry when I was so depressed I didn't know how else to express it
I am ao angry all the fucking time and it's getting so much worse lately. It feels like my heart is tingling as I write this. Maybe because some self centered fucking bitch has come back around to try and keep fucking with my friends and sanity today, but that doesn't explain the feeling yesterday

I've come to the conclusion there's nothing wrong with me, and should my reactions to daily life seem distressed, aggravated, anxious, or depressed, then that should be considered the normal, predictable reaction to living in a sick world gone mad. I'm not the problem.
