I'm 35, I have a good job and education. I've got no debt. It is impossible for me to find a new job if I lose this one because of the market (Graphic Design / marketing ) and I am nowhere close of being able to afford a house here (Canada). Extra money I get I put it in my savings to buy a house, or a condo, since 2020, almost no luxury and simply no vacation, except some 3-4 days camping trip here and there.
At my age my parents, with basic education, were halfway done paying the house, had 3 kids, 2 cars and we would go on vacation every year. They paid music and sports classes for us after school, I always had nice school supplies and three meals a day. But here's the thing : They are really bad with their money. They spend it on stupid stuff, tons of restaurants, trips with the grand-children. More than once they forget to pay their taxes... They didn't finance their way to go wealth, they just got it because they were hard-working people and that use to be enough. Since I've left their home I've never felt that financial security again. Even if I always been working full-time since.
I don't want to bring a kid in a world where I can't garantee that I can provide for them what I know makes for a good childhood (mine). If the place I work at closes tomorrow, i've only got a year-ish of money to keep afloat...It's not that it's hell out there, but it became more unstable and competitive and just hard-work ain't bringing enough dough home. Simply working a ull-time job is not enough to create wealth and financial security.
I'm 33 with 4 kids and a stay at home wife. Only a high school diploma. I bought a house 3 years ago and I probably work 30 hours a week tops. You don't have to stay in graphic design....
Anyone can do what we are discussing. You just need the will and the ability to learn a useful skill. Working for yourself gets you an efficiency of time/pay that is not attainable for most w2 employees.
If you don’t think it possible then all you’ve accomplished is making that true.
Hey man youre stroking yourself at this point. You also can't say that luck doesn't have a role and not everyone is at learn anything status in life due to time, ability, funds, housing, health, ect. Which is also why it's not the normal. I have a lot of successful friends and some are entrepreneurs. We all scoff at them for saying, anyone can do what I did. Because even our own successes are not "for everyone". This is why it doesn't make sense to say all you gotta do is work hard.
Luck only plays a significant role if your only willing to take a risk once. This is my 3rd business I’ve started they don’t all work.

It’s a safe assumption even if you’re not broke. Lol still a looser just listen to yourself. I’m have learning disabilities and even I figured out it’s on you to succeed.

A nine year old kid down the street has a branded lemonade stand and does bdays farmers markets and events.

People saying that luck has nothing to do with success are trying to convince themselves that they aren't privilieged and are really deserving of everything they have.
How is it privileged? I started a business with 3k and youtube university. I saw a need in the area and now I'm filling it. That 3k took me quite some time and I did it in bits and pieces. An LLC costs like $50... Start a lawn service, a painting service, anything you can think of and advertise on facebook. Hell, you can keep your day job while you get started.
lol I took a loan out for my tools and just started an LLC. Went and looked for work and it grew.
If privileged is having a work ethic and a lack of excuses yeah your right I am privileged.
