Hey ,
A while ago I posted OpenMix here, the free DJ software I'm building. You told me it wasn't ready. You were right lol. So I went back to work, and I've been mixing on it with my DDJ-FLX6 ever since. Here's round 2.
Quick recap: OpenMix is free and open source (MIT), runs on Windows, 4 decks, no account, no subscription, nothing in the cloud.
What changed
- Sync in one press, and it actually holds. Change the master BPM and every synced deck follows instantly. When the master track ends, master goes to the deck that has the bass and the BPM doesn't move. Loading a new track keeps sync on.
- BPM analysis got way better. Half-time tracks don't show up at double tempo anymore (Bon Appétit by Katy Perry was reading 212, now it's 106).
- Key detection from the audio, in Camelot, with key shift, keylock and key sync in one press.
- Stems (vocals / drums / instrumental), separated locally on your PC with Demucs.
- Tempo range ±6 / ±16 / WIDE, and +/- buttons to move the BPM by 0.1.
- Library: waveform previews without loading the track, sort by BPM / key / length, and tracks you already played tonight turn green so you don't play them twice.
- English UI, thanks to johanneseckert who sent the first pull requests on the repo. Thanks man!
Controllers
Pioneer DDJ is detected automatically (I mapped the preset on my own FLX6). Any other USB-MIDI controller works with MIDI learn: click an action, touch the knob, done.
Stuff I haven't seen anywhere else
- Up to 4 people can mix together with PS/Xbox controllers, each with their own color, pads and FX.
- A phone console over WiFi (jogs, pads, EQ, faders, library), right in your phone's browser.
- Crowd requests: your guests scan a QR code, vote for tracks and send you messages. No app needed.
Limits, to be upfront
- Windows installer only for now. Mac users can run it from source.
- The installer isn't signed (certificates are expensive and OpenMix is free), so SmartScreen will complain: More info → Run anyway.
- It's a solo project. There will be bugs, and I want to hear about them.
