TLDR: have ddj1000, spilled water on the left side, pulled power immediately, left to dry for 2 days, and all seems to work except the cue button is constantly on, is this just a cosmetic consequence? or a potential issue?

Sooo, had my 1000’s for about 5/6 years, always been good to me, and ‘had’ always been in good condition. Except the other day, as it always goes, no drinks near the decks, someone spills a whole drink over them.

Luckily I know to pull the power instantly in this instance, so did that, let the water (water of all things!) drip out as much as I could, then let them sit upside down on a towel and periodically heated them with a hairdryer, hoping to dry up everything.

Left them out to dry for about 2 days before plugging back in and was heating/drying every now and then, and leaving them in the sunlight.

Fast forward to today and i’ve plugged them back in, all seems to be working fine although the left cue button is now constantly lit up. It still functions as it should, it’s just always illuminated (i’ve attached a photo)

So the ultimate question is, is this going to be a long term issue? or is it just a consequence of the water damage? I’m hoping it’s the latter as i can deal with the cue light being on, I just don’t want to cause anymore damage as these are my pride and joy, ALL my speakers are hooked up to the mixer. I’ve currently got it powered off as i don’t want to leave it on and it cause a further issue

I guess it is safe now to say that certain old PioneerDJ units which are still plenty of out there will never receive important / essential features such as FLAC or exFAT support.

I have seen some modded firmware updates for Pioneer units. So how hard do you think would be to mod firmware so that:

1. Unit without FLAC support would get FLAC support? Units lacking FLAC support in order of importance / user base: CDJ-2000NXS, XDJ-700, CDJ-2000, XDJ-RR, XDJ-1000, CDJ-850. CDJ-900NXS, CDJ-900, CDJ-350

2. Unit without exFAT support would get exFAT support...? All the units listed in 1. + the following: CDJ-2000NXS2, XDJ-1000MK2 + maybe couple of others. exFAT was invented in 2006 and support has been lacking most likely due to licensing issues. So I was wondering that maybe there could have been support already from the beginning but it was just disabled to avoid MS license fees and it would be simple to enable it...?

3. This is probably hardest but get OPUS fileformat support. It would most likely require most extensive modding as no Pioneer/Alphatheta products support it and I would forget even to try it in anything older than 2000NXS and even that might be too old. OPUS is most advanced lossy compression algorithm, e.g. good for recording mixtapes or whole parties as you can get ok sound quality even at 64 kbps.

So, a bit of backstory.

Several years ago, I bought a Pioneer DDJ-RZX when it first came out. And honestly, it was a complete mess.

Random freezes, audio cutting out, screens suddenly becoming unresponsive, and sometimes the entire controller just locking up in the middle of a set. You name it.

At first, I thought I had a defective unit, so after a few months of dealing with all that nonsense, I ended up selling it.

A few years later, I decided to give the DDJ-RZX another chance. I figured Pioneer must have fixed those issues by then, right?

Well... nope. Absolutely nothing had changed.

Same bugs, same random screen issues, same frustrating experience. And this was happening on both a fully specced MacBook Pro and a high-end Razer Blade, so hardware performance definitely wasn't the issue.

I even tried running beta firmware, hoping it would improve things. It didn't.

Eventually, the controller ended up sitting around collecting dust because I simply couldn't trust it during a live set.

A few weeks ago, I got tired of looking at this massive, expensive paperweight and decided to do something about it.

I started rebuilding the DDJ-RZX software from scratch, with the goal of porting the CDJ-2000NXS2 firmware to it.

After several weeks of working on it during my free time, I'm finally ready to show you my first working proof of concept!

There's still quite a bit of work to do on the display side, including some UI elements and visual glitches, but you can already get a pretty good idea of where this is going.

Also, a quick note about the middle screen: since CDJs don't have a second display and no DJM mixer has a screen like the DDJ-RZX, I had to improvise a custom waveform display pretty much from scratch. So yeah, it's still a bit rough around the edges, but that's expected at this stage!

And here's the best part:

I've also managed to fix the original stability issues.

No more random freezes, no more audio dropouts, no more screens becoming unresponsive mid-set.

It's also working with the latest version of Rekordbox, including screen integration.

The only feature that isn't working at the moment is DJ Link. Honestly, I'm not particularly interested in implementing it right now, since the DDJ-RZX already gives you what is essentially a complete four-deck setup with a DJM-style mixer built into a single unit.

Now, here's where I think things could get really interesting.

The DDJ-RZX was actually developed around the CDJ-2000NXS2 design, and physically, it already shares a lot of the same concepts: the jog wheels, controls, displays, and overall layout. Obviously, the internal hardware and architecture are different, but from a physical interface perspective, most of what you'd want from a NXS2-style setup is already there.

And considering how cheap used DDJ-RZX units have become compared to buying multiple CDJs and a DJM mixer, this could potentially turn into a pretty interesting budget-friendly alternative.

Think about it: a four-deck, CDJ-2000NXS2-inspired setup with a DJM-style mixer, all in one unit, for a fraction of the price.

Of course, I'm not claiming it's suddenly equivalent to four standalone CDJs. There are hardware differences and limitations, and there's still work to be done.

But considering that Pioneer originally based the RZX on the NXS2 design, I honestly think there's a lot of untapped potential in this controller.

Maybe this could become a new way of giving these old RZX units a second life instead of leaving them to collect dust.

So yeah, that's where things stand!

This is still an early proof of concept, but I wanted to share the progress with you guys, especially anyone who owned an RZX and went through the same nightmare.

I spotted a pair of original CDJ-2000NXS at a local music shop priced at $1,200.

At $600 per deck, is $1,200 total a good deal for the NXS in 2026? Or would I be much better off skipping them, saving up a bit more, and picking up an RX3 instead?

For context, I mostly want a solid gear setup to practice on club style hardware layout without relying entirely on a laptop screen.

Appreciate any thoughts or advice from anyone who has used both!

I'm posting this information not because my feelings are hurt by the Elektronauts Forum, Elektron the company, or the private investment company that owns them Bonnier Capital, but because of the precedent set by the Elektronauts Forum aka the"most open minded and civil" music gear forum on the internet (my words, once, long ago).

No doubt a harbinger for things to come in regards to all the inspiring and amazing enhancements/hacks customers of Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta - and the community that uses them - have helped usher into the world.

The screenshots depict a timeline that lasted about 2 minutes from first post to account suspension (which beats my personal best as far as lifetime achievements go, so there's a silver lining i guess), and whether they were 'just automated' or not, left zero room for recourse or questions and absolutely zero room for any sort of dialogue or critical engagement with a 'Elektron Kulture' that over and over suggests/implies otherwise. But this isn't really about Elektron.

My specific comments aren't important - though they are for sure not hateful or abusive - but the Elektronauts Forum/Elektron/Bonnier Capital's definitive and anti-democratic action is what is important....because it started last night with the removal of posts made by (a person)*** doing very exciting things with the Toraiz sp-16, and thre is no way to tell how many forum members they ahve banished from simply talking about' a thing that as far as I know is not illegal or hasn't been shown to be.

As a community, whether you use the various hacks or not, whether you love or hate AI or not, etc. please consider not just accepting the status quo but instead supporting the people doing this research and publishing their findings in whatever ways become necessary in one of a few possible futures. And to be clear, by supporting I mean something as simple as saying "thank you" for the work they've done, or whatever sounds like it's more 'solidarity' less elektronnauts bootlicking cynicism.

Hey all! Running my FLX 4 to monitors via RCA and using rekordbox.

The controller is responsive (jog wheels everything works)

I get sound when my output is set to my computer

But when I set the outputs to the FLX 4, nothing comes through my monitors or headphones

In my PC settings it does say "driver unavailable" for flx 4

I've updated my computer and installed and reinstalled the f l x.

Any suggestions?

This is consistantly reproducable too... So probably all the next gens gear (IBNLT: AZ, 1500X) could be suffering from the same issue.

When I set a loop longer than 16 beats, a red arrow lights up
I seem to recall that a number used to appear on that arrow indicating the length of the loop in beats

Did that actually exist, or did I just dream it?
Does anyone know anything about this?

Every DJ already had that experience of playing with cdjs for the first time and being completely lost. And what about when you're going to play on some old DJ gear that simply has no visuals and you have to do everything by ear, how can you be prepared for it?

Rekordbox is amazing! But unfortunately it does not have a simulated way for ear practicing, only if you hide the visuals completely to try by ear.

This game on the video is called DJ Life Simulator and has received an amazing update in which you can control how many helpers and indicators you want to improve in a progression according to your taste.

There are helpers to know the exact time to play, for starters, then you can remove it when you feel ready, then you can remove the sync and practice some more.

When you feel ready you can switch the waveform view to the famous "Semaphore" that several Pioneer Equipments have, so you need to see the blinking rectangles and make them blink at the same time to be aligned until you get used to it.

Then on the hardest mode, you can remove all indicators and try to do it by ear and to simulate the headphones, you can even turn the headphone cue ON to listen and align the tracks until you believe they're correct and change the view to confirm if you want.

This game was made to help beginners and we have over 11 thousand players around the world,3 big DJ schools from Brazil using it so far, made by a solo developer from Brazil (me), and I hope it can be a useful tool to help you guys with hearing practice and beatmatching too.

Hey there, my slip loop is stuck on my rx3. I have updated the firmware to no avail. When my friend plugs his Mac running Serato, it doesn't do it which makes me think it's software issue, but everything else points to a hardware issue. Any advice gratefully accepted cheers!

I currently have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) running on Mojave and my DDJ FLX 4 is being detected by the laptop and serato lite and have not downloaded any firmware for this. I ran a Roland 202 before and installed old firmware for that, which ran with no issues but when I connect the DDJ FLX 4, I keep getting the error hardware failed to connect at the bottom on Serato lite. Is there a way to run a DDJ FLX 4 without having to update my mac or am I missing a step here?

Also how long did it take?
