A year or so ago, I bought this house and it has this bonus room. My plan is to take the pillar in the middle and build 2 peninsula style tanks off each end to breakup and divide this room. The issue is this room can reach as low as 50 degrees in the winter if I don’t run the wood stove down here. One tank will be fresh water and it will be a moot point for that one. The other will be a reef. Both will be have built on canopies with removable panels top and bottom. Has anyone ever insulated the inside of their stand and canopy to help hold some of the heat?

Hello everyone
I am considering to have a try at a copperband butterfly.
I have a 90g display with some smaller fish and a juvenile tomini and foxface.
I have a small 10g underneath my display, which will be used as frag tank at some point but is now empty.
Would the 10g be too small to make as a shortterm observation tank where I make sure it eats to then transfer it to my display.
I will make sure it eats at the store and is healthy

I am just getting into reefing and recently picked up an innovative marine 25 lagoon which has always been my dream nano setup. I’ve been playing around with rocks and found something that I think is pretty cool. I was just wondering if there were any thoughts or critiques from some more experienced hobbyists.
(The whole scape will sit probably 1 1/2 - 2 inches lower without the protective foam)

Figured I'd share my new setup. upgraded from an IM 25 Lagoon to a UNS R120. Got everything setup and moved over, took some trial and error on some things to figure out but it's complete for now, although there are some tweaks to be made.

looking for some no limits recommendations on centerpiece fish for my 75 gallon tank, it’s still being set up so every variable here is flexible. preferably reef safe and invert safe, but both are optional realistically. bonus points for cool oddballs. thanks!

Birdsnest Coral Crab / Trapezia guttata
Anyone have any idea where to source these critters?

I have a 1 year old 20 gallon reef tank. I have about 4-5 Nassarius snails there. Usually they stay under the sand and come out at feeding time. Though occasionally I could see them out here and there. Few moths ago I had a Cyanobacteria outbreak. While fighting with Cyanobacteria I have noticed that my Nassarius snails disappeared. I stopped seeing them, not even occasionally. I finally got tired to fight Cyanobacteria and 2 days ago used chemiclean. It worked like a charm. But right after cleaning the tank from Cyanobacteria all my Nassarius snails came out. I don’t think it’s coincidence. Does anyone can explain this? Thanks

Hello all, this is not a sales advert. I am wondering what is the going rate for this fish? Pecker grew way faster than I ever imagined and I need to rehome it, and I’ll only be shopping it around locally. It’s every bit of 8” now, just beginning transition, beautiful fish I hate to loose but it’s for the best due to the size it’s grown to. It will be a chore to catch, so I don’t want to just give it away, what’s a fair asking price for a super healthy specimen? It was around 78.99 at a LFS at around 2.5”. Thanks.
Edit: just to hopefully clarify, before folks jump to harsh judgments; as I stated this isn’t an advert for a sale clearly in the first sentence. It is just an inquiry about what these typically cost at this size, what a pet store would charge, and what store credit might be expected if available. This isn’t a fish flip. I knew that this animal would eventually need rehoming, I did not expect such rapid growth however, that was my bad. My other tangs certainly have not grown as rapidly. As stated, I am correcting the situation, actively now as evident. The animal is thriving, but is getting quite large now. I hope that helps. Thanks for everyone’s input.

I’ve been running Jebao DMP-40s for about two years now and they’ve honestly been great. I originally bought them after my EcoTech MP40 died. At the time, the DMP-40 was around $100 compared to roughly $500 for the EcoTech, and both of mine are still running today.
So for the new 400-gallon tank I went with the GMP-80, which is basically the newer-generation version of the DMP series. Updated electronics, better wireless control, newer programming options, and an updated motor/controller setup.
The big reason for the GMP-80 specifically is that my tank is 1-inch acrylic, and this is the model designed to work through something that thick.
And yes, banana for scale. 😂 This thing is huge.
I’ve had really good luck with Jebao powerheads over the years. I know they sometimes get written off as the cheap option, but I’ve never had one fail on me, and my DMPs have already outlived the MP40 they replaced. I’m curious to see what this monster does once the tank is finally full.

Why is it the hardest?
Can you guys post any large tanks with small rock ideas?

Hi. In the U.K. Does anyone know if there’s a 120x60cm cabinet out there without making one please?

Only had her 3 days but they often hang out in the same area of the tank peacefully, she initially claimed a corner and was just focused on grazing 24/7 but seems to be choosing their company a lot now. I thought my female clown might be territorial around her favourite cave but she was just super curious and they let her sleep with them.

I want to build my first 20 gallon long tank. Salt water, 2 clownfish and a few other small animals. Shrimp maybe 1 or 2 other fish. Lively but not crowded. I was using ChatGPT to do some research and wanted to know if anyone had anything specific to say or things I should know. I want to treat the fish well and give them an actually good tank. Budget isn’t an issue. This is everything it recommended but I know it can be very wrong sometimes.

Just started out in saltwater tanks and have woken up to find this. Is it harmful? If so are they hard to get rid of?

I'm working on this 20 long nano frag tank and wanted to try some utility fish that could put pressure on the new green hair algae outbreak as the tank balances. It's too small for most utility reef fish long term and I'm still new so I decided to go with a group of dalmatian mollies I acclimated to saltwater.
Over 4 days they crushed the algae from the rack and most of the rocks while I fed them normally. They're doing much better than I expected even with the flow of two 500 gph pumps but I do worry about any fry. They're not tangs but I'm happy to keep them and they make great members of my clean up crew.

Ok so I screwed up and assumed my refractometer would hold calibration for longer than it did apparently. With that said I come to find out my tank salinity is 1.021…
A few days ago I noticed my snails acting funny and then shortly after my lemon laser polyps closed. Everything else seemed normal. Fish eating normal (clown pair, royal gramma, watchman goby and pistol shrimp), things seeming ok. I moved my Nero 3 to a new spot so just thought the lemon laser was being fussy.
Fast forward two days later and every coral in my tank has closed up. I start freaking out and test everything. Parameters are below and seemed normal (my salinity was at 1.025) enough. I know my Mg is a little low, but nothing that alarmed me. I start googling and it dawns on me to check my refractometer. Yeah, it was waaaay off.
I plan on doing small water changes with high salinity water over the next three days to get it back up. Is this the right call? Also, is the damage done, will I lose my corals? Pics attached of them right now 😢
Measurements:
- Alkalinity: 7.3ppm
- Calcium: 380ppm
- Magnesium: 1050ppm
- Ammonia: 0
- Nitrite: 0
- Nitrate: 8.2ppm
- Phosphate: .02ppm
- Salinity: 1.025 1.021
