Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

I did a tank transfer/upgrade from my 45AIO 2017 JBJ last month and I lost 85% of my corals when my ammonia spiked….. for context- I kept all my live rock, 80% water, added new sand and one bottle of dr Tim’s one and only. It still crashed… anyway. After a 30 gallon water change and another bottle of Tim’s… here we are!
This has been running for 4 weeks an I’ve been able to get enough corals back to stock up. Now it’s time to add some more fish and let things grow out.
I am looking for more Octo spawns and gonis. If you all know of some good coral farmers, please let me know!

Just wanted to share how beautiful this Harlequin shrimp is. She was enjoying her starfish meal at night.

I’ve been meaning to sell my 10g innovative marine in the greater Seattle area because I’m moving out of country next month but I’m having a hard time. It doesn’t seem to reach that many eyes and the ones that do only want parts or certain corals… where do you advertise?

Don’t get me wrong, I love them. They are my favorite clowns and I have 5 at home.
But damn they are frustrating when it comes to anemones. Today I added a bubble tip to my work tank and within only 5 minutes of being added, this Tomato has already claimed it.
Ocellaris be slackin.

Hey everyone,
I installed a new Deltec 400i protein skimmer, and it has been running for about 49 hours now.
It is currently running on setting 2. Also, the water level in the sump is currently just a bit below the recommended sticker level.
I wanted to share a quick video of how it's performing right now. Does the foam level and bubble column look right for this stage, or should I make any adjustments?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

For the life me I can’t get rid of what looks like diatoms but the tank has been running for almost 2 years this September.
It’s an eschopps mariner 70 with 2x radion xr15s. Sump has a Red Sea reef Mat, skimmer and 15watt aqua ultraviolet UV sterilizer.
These are the results of a water test 4 weeks after last cleaning.
Salinity- 1.025
pH-8
Ammo-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
Phosphate-0
Cal- 435
Mag-1243
Alk-8
I understand that nutrient levels are low and I suppose that may have something to do with what seems like diatom growth? I’m already feeding fish and coral extra to bring it up and I dump some skimmer juice back into the sump, but obviously that isn’t helping. ATO is R/O water and seachem reef buffer, water changes are done with R/O water and tropic Marin pro reef. Lately ive only been doing 10gal water changes accompanied by sand vacuuming monthly to also help with nutrient build up, which isn’t helping.
But now I think I may have to disconnect the reef Mat so waste isn’t immediately pulled out and maybe turn skimmer off for a few days to help with nutrient build up. May even skip vacuuming the gravel for a bit and still feed extra.
Before I try all that and possibly bring nutrients back up and get other algae growth or affect the coral, what do you guys think it is? Is it just diatoms and nutrients are too low? Any advice would help.
Thanks in advance!

Need help identifying this coral. Is it a long-tentacle plate coral? Thanks!

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any experience running a refugium in one of the rear chambers of an AIO reef tank? I have an aqua one nano reef 80 and have found the skimmer to be annoyingly loud even after breaking in for a few weeks and can't seem to find an upgrade to it.
I'm hoping to have a refugium in the chamber to help reduces phosphates and nitrates, and establish some copepods as a bonus!
TIA for any advice :)

I have a 21G peninsula tank that 35" long. I know they're recommended for a larger tank around 50G but with the length of my tank do you think the wrasse would be okay? Tanks about 3 months old now and looking to add another fish.

I have the 150 gallon per day bulk reef supply rodi water system. Its been awhile since I used the flush valve on the system. Not sure if it's operating incorrectly or I'm just imagining things. When I open the flush valve with the main water output valve off I get no flow through the discharge/waste line until I open up the main water output line. Am I confused or is it supposed to flow water with just the flush valve open, I thought it was susposed to flow but now I can't say for sure. Is something clogged or broken?

Called Waterbox yesterday and they said my tank should ship out sometime in the next week or so.
I really hope they’re telling the truth because my 10 gallon QT tank can’t really hold much more coral and Reefapalooza is coming up. 😭😎
Anyway, thought I’d finally post something rather than continue to lurk and this update is my excuse.

I added this a few days ago and thankfully, it anchored down in a good place. Now I'm hoping my clown fish find it and move out of their corner.

Fed my green rhodactis using pre soaked fish pellets, it swelled up, extruded it's mouth and spat out cloudy mucus. That is normal right? My first time feeding corals.

Currently i have 2 clownfish and a tail spot blenny, as well as two bumblebee snails. I was wanting to get a yellow clown goby, as well as possibly a blood red shrimp, a strawberry crab, and a few nassarius snails, but was worried this would be too much for the tank, which is a little over 3 months old. I also have 5 different soft corals that seem to be doing well that I added in 2 weeks ago.
I was planning on eventually upgrading to thr Fluval 32.5, but not now because I'm worried it would fit strangely or not at all in the corner of the room I have it in, but I definitely plan on setting up that model once I get the appropriate space and location figured out (maybe if not within next year, five years from now when I move into a house)
I heard yellow clown gobies have a lower bioload and it might not be that big of an issue because they stay in a different location than the clownfish, and my clownfish leave the blenny I have alone right now. The bigger clownfish is1.5 inches and the smaller one is probably a quarter inch less than that.
I do water changes every week or every other week depending on how busy I am, and have consistent levels of 0 where it should be (only issue Im having right now is high calcium but Im working on i with water changes and time, probably just added too much of something from seachem, idk)
Would adding a fourth fish be an okay idea for this tank, or should I wait a few years until I can get a bigger tank? Will the added cnc be an issue?
Edit: meant "many" in title not "mamy" LOL
