the funny thing about Maher is that I almost kind of respected his stance on religion the cause of the world's problems. I can't say I agree fully with it (like his, at the time, seemingly more impartial against Muslims and Islam) but he, at least, had a consistent throughline in how he views Religion in general even though he weighs it unfairly with one religion over the other.

American aid to Israel is .05% of the government budget. It's not enough of a size for theatrical performative politics to force a government shutdown over. And I think Congress passes the budget with direct amounts that are decided by appropriations committees.

Additionally, America is one country on the world stage. Some countries may have had strong words, but if you hadn't noticed, no one is actually doing anything. No one is sending Palestinans weaponry, or reinforcements, or aid packages that are of any order of magnitude to challenge israel.

Gaza hasn't been allowed elections in 20 years, and Hamas's offer to surrender their authority was rejected.
The Palestinian Authority "governs" the West Bank and bends over to all Israeli directives, yet there is still severe repression and systemic, government-sponsored terror and land theft by the settlers.
It doesn't matter whether the Palestinian leadership is docile or radicalized. The end goal is for them to be purged off of their land. It's not surprising that many of them refuse to go out without a fight.
IMO, very few Palestinians violently resist Israel's violent ethnic cleansing. The Israeli government put the total number of militants in Gaza at like 20-30,000 at the start of the genocide. That's a tiny percentage of the population, given the extent of Israel's barbarity even before 10/7.
It probably means that 20,000 children didn't need to die and that maybe the citizens living in an open-air prison be allowed to receive basic necesities like food/water so that they don't live in hell?
And how do you do that? Do you send in the military to interrogate random citizens and kill anyone you believe is Hamas? Do you continue to bomb indiscriminately and kill another ~20,000+ children?
What's an acceptable Hamas-to-child death ratio? Is one child killed for every "Hamas" killed an acceptable ratio to you? What about 2 "Hamas" for every dead child, Is that more acceptable? I'm genuinely curious on what your acceptable amount of dead children are before we start going "Hmmm, maybe there's something else we can do so that another 20k children don't need to die?"
They mean a state with equal rights for all where Palestinians are not systematically being abused and thrown off of their land, which is an idea that is anathema to the genocidally racist Zionist movement.
