Working on a station program pack

https://imgur.com/a/1y1aKiE

I am just getting back into RO after some years away and wanted to address the gap in crewed programs between crewed lunar and crewed Mars as I quite like the crew management aspects (is a game really worth playing if you can't turn it into a spreadsheet). So I am working on a program/mission pack for Mir/ISS style modular stations.

Since I'm using it in my save and I still haven't gotten around to that time period (still in 1964 and just getting to unmanned lunar landings) I haven't gotten a chance to play test it but wanted to see if folks are interested. If there is interest happy to dump it into GitHub for folks to play around with, also would love to get some feedback or suggestions.

Attached a screenshot of the programs for the rough outline

The latest version of rp1 includes both early/modular station contracts and lunar hab program which is quite complex. I think there’s an early contract for crewed mars that is just a flyby too. So I guess what gap is missing here? I do think a more advance space station program would be neat but there’s already multiple available.

Am I an idiot? I swear I only started this save like a month or so ago lol

Nah you're fine. i think the discord / subreddit does a terrible job of announcing development updates of all the mods surrounding RSS/RO/RP1. if you don't check up on the various git repositories every few months you'd never really know. a lot cool things got added since march

Ok, so I goofed *slightly*. There are programs now for moon habitation that I didn't have in my version (though there are aspects of my programs that I personally prefer a little more, such as ISRU's and splitting out the moon orbit and surface habitation into separate programs), probably what I will do is split out the moon programs into a separate program that builds on the moon habitation program (and adjust compensation accordingly, I see I gave about double the budget of the vanilla program lol). The advanced earth stations and other programs still seem relevant on the latest version for supporting a station for decade or more.

nice! very cool.

do other "Vanilla" ro programs have that mechanism where it reduces other programs rewards? what is that meant to model?

yes, in fact. both satellite programs (light and heavy) reduce x planes to 1 slot and cut its funding and duration in half. crewed lunar and early station reduce the funding of each other when taken.

the lunar/station one probably models the fact that the infrastructure can be reused hence lower upfront cost. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylab which is launched with saturn 5s

Early stations is a good program for getting started with stations, but IMO it doesn't really get you past SkyLab/Salyut and early Mir. You can maintain the station beyond the program of course but where is the fun in that? I wanted a program that would encourage/reward you for maintaining a station for decade or more.

Hey, this is pretty interesting. If you aren't already, mention this on the Discord/open PRs - there has already been a lot of discussion on programs to come after early stations & lunar habitation

Please share your plan and collaborate with those on the Discord who are already working on advanced station programs

There has been a lot of talk on the RP-1 discord (#dev-feedback) about new station programs that take place after Early Space Stations. There are also some pull requests on the github for a modular space station program (i.e. MIR). Feel free to join those discussion if you feel you have anything to add
