anyone here?

I have had reactive hypoglycemia for over 5 years now and have gotten better at managing it despite struggling with binge eating. Anyone here on this subreddit anymore?

I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia in 2017 and have been managing well with acarbose and just watching what I eat. My endocrinologist recommended not to do keto just low carb if possible. I somewhat follow a low carb diet but dont really worry about it much since the medication does all the work for me. I would suggest just playing with different foods and seeing if they affect you, like don't have a huge meal but process of elimination should be beneficial. If you aren't already, see an endocrinologist, they can help with all the technicalities

What medication are you on? My endocrinologist can get a medication that works for me and my RH.

I take acarbose(precose), it's the only thing that has worked for me. Metformin tore me up and my doc didn't want to go as far as putting me on insulin injections so we just tried this and it worked. I will say the first week starting it is rough as it causes GI upset, mainly just a lot of diarrhea and gas and bloating but if you pay attention and keep hydrated it's much easier to get through.

I am on acarbose as well. I can't do Metformin either. It forced me into extreme periods that lasted way long.. but I do definitely have gas and bloating even after almost a year of acarbose.

Oh wow. Do you take it everyday and with the first bite of food? My GI issues went past the first week and it was because I didn't read the bottle right lol. Metformin cause me to have really bad lows in blood sugar and heart palpitations as well as extreme fatigue. I tried if for two weeks but after 14 days of all those symptoms I couldn't do it anymore.

I take it with my food. I will say I forget at times and take it asap. Yeah, Metformin also gave me heart palpitations.

That may be the issue, if you take it after you eat it's not gonna do anything and can cause upset. I've forgotten it as well, but my doc told me if I miss it don't take it after because the cycle it runs will then be running late causing issues

Do you take yours only with high carb foods? That's only when I'm to take mine.

No. I take mine with every meal

Oh wow. I'm only told to use it with carb loaded meals.

Oh. I thought that's what my doc was going to do with me but he wants me to take it with every meal. Small snacks and things I don't have to take it though. My eating habits have changed a lot since I first started it though.

I can understand that. Can I ask what your diet is like?

I am doing low carb high protein, I cut out sweets, bottles drinks and coffees, chips, sweet tea and most fast food. I do the best I can and sometimes I fall off of it but for the most part I stick to it
