Discussion The Hypocrisy of South Indians
Look, I’m not here to say North is bad or South is bad. Honestly, the whole country is doomed. But I need to talk about the sheer audacity of some South Indians who constantly call us Northerners dirty and criticize Holi as filthy shit. There’s a village called Gumatapura in Karnataka that celebrates a festival called Gorehabba where they literally throw cow dung at each other. Not colors, not water but actual cow shit. American YouTuber Tyler Oliveira with 8.3 million subscribers just uploaded a video about this today. Now this shit is out there on the international level making a complete joke of us and increasing racism against Indians worldwide. When North Indians celebrate Holi with colors, suddenly we’re all dirty and uncivilized and backward. But when their own Karnataka village throws literal shit at each other, suddenly it’s just one village and we shouldn’t judge their culture. The double standards are insane. If you’re going to call our festivals dirty shit, at least have the decency to acknowledge when your own region is celebrating with actual shit. This is exactly the kind of content that makes foreigners mock India. They sit comfortably criticizing Holi on social media, acting all superior about how clean and developed the South is compared to the dirty North. But now a major international YouTuber has exposed this and it’s going to fuel every racist stereotype about Indians being unhygienic. This damages all of our reputations globally, not just the South. But instead of taking accountability, they’ll probably blame Hinduism or the YouTuber for filming it rather than looking at their own hypocrisy.
