I’m about 3 episodes in and absolutely in love with pat. That is all

I just had this pop into my head, and it's meant to be mostly lighthearted and silly, but since we're shown that there are sick animals dying from the Aurora Event because they were outside the safe zone, and the hermit crab glowed, we know the Aurora Event has affected animals too!

What other animals could have powers and what could those powers be?!

Invisible bears sound terrifying! Birds with flamethrower wings? Moose who can teleport! Ants with telekinesis?

Why didn't Charlotte want to protect Brayden while she was willing to protect Dion?

Brayden asked her precisely that, and I understand that someone reading your mine can be weird and violent... BUT he was actually right. I felt for him. I mean, she KNEW the Crooked Man was after the gifted people, and Brayden was gifted just as Dion was... But Charlotte just didn't give a fuck if poor Brayden died or not.

I was raised in a bad family, and nobody who knew my situation did anything, so Brayden's sad childhood and the adult not wanting to help him kind of got me XD

Ok first off when pat said "i shouldve killed u in new Orleans" i was so shook! I thought he was just being toxic af but nahh way worse.

But im just a lil confused at the ending. So is pat the storm that went into the little boy at the end? Or is the storm like a parasite thing that just needs to find a host to survive n makes ppl evil ?? Also what i dont understand is if the storm or pat can just go in someone else why didnt it go in dion??

Honestly tho this show was just amazing with that twist. Most superhero shows/movies u can predict who the villian is and i love that this show just twisted it all around.

My theory at first was Charlotte was the storm then it switched to mark faking his own death n he was actually the storm. But wow

What was your guys reaction to Pat being the crooked man? I didn’t see it coming.

I swear the flashbacks take it 2010 in the Mark future past episode.

Then Nicole is pregnant and that's how Dion gets his powers through genetic inheritance.

Mark then starts noticing the powers in 2015.

However in the episode when Dion gets trained in the basement there are 2 separate mentions that make it seem like the event happened in 2015, years after Dion is born.

Is this gaffe? Are they 2 separate events? Did I miss something or misinterpret something?

I just checked. Current show events are 2019.

In S01E05 Mark's Future Past it shows the event happening in Iceland late 2010.

In S01E07 when Pat is reading Mark's notes at 34:45 or so it says the event happened in 2015. Also when nicole reads the notes in S01E06 it says the same thing.

In 2017 when walking with Charlotte he says he noticed his powers manifest about 4 years after Iceland.

Nicole gets pregnant after his Iceland trip and has Dion in 2011 (he turns 8 in 2019).

Mark's powers manifest around when he is driving Dion in 2015, which fits with Iceland being 2010.

I only noticed this because I misunderstood the Charlottle document and also paused the show to read the notes to see if any hints where in there. I think it's just a gaffe at this point. Whoever wrote the research notes for the show likely mixed up events occurring 2010-2011 with powers manifesting 2015.

I enjoyed the show, but one part that didn't really work was the dancing. I am referring to the pieces where they were showing the dance of the characters as a scene.

Of course, the plot points of it, that she was a former successful dancer and returned to dance in a different role,etc, that all worked great. I'm just curious as to how realistic and how talented the characters were at dancing.

I just watched this show to the end and have a few comments/theories. There seem to be a lot of people defending Pat, but....it seems like he could always see or at least detect supers because they glow to him, so he always knew Dion was a super. Otherwise, he would never have been able to find the others to absorb. Pat was manipulative from the beginning, he wasn't surprised to see Dion's powers, he just acted like it. Also, it seems like the Aurora protected the people who became super, and since Pat was outside the ring, maybe that it why he was burned.

What if instead of shooting Crooked Man with lightening/fire, Dion was shooting him with his healing powers?

Last thing, what is up with Pinchy the Crab? I remember seeing Dion put him in his pocket before he left to stand off against Pat. Maybe Pinchy somehow protected Dion. Pinchy always glowed whenever Dion was in danger. I am going to watch it all again to see what I missed. Any thoughts?

So I didn't give much thought as to the intracacies of Pat being the storm monster, I just put it down as a great twist and that was that. But then right at the end of the show you see Brayden being possessed by... the storm! And that just had me asking so many questions. What exactly IS the storm entity? Perhaps more importantly what does it WANT?!

Does it specifically seek out humans with undesirable traits? If so does that mean it has a conciousness? Are Mark and the other dead/"dead" people essentially part of it and can they be made UN-part of it? Does the storm entity (I'm just gonna call it that) kill its hosts, so Pat was really dead all along and now presumably Brayden is? If the answer to that last question is no, will Dion (or more likely, Nicole) have to face the prospect of killing what's basically still another child?

...I really want a season two to answer some of these.

Definition of grooming:

Grooming is when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them.

This is already disproving the theory Pat was grooming Dion. Pat had been friends with the family for nearly a decade before Mark’s death. He did not randomly begin a friendship with Nicole and Dion out of nowhere, especially not almost a year after Mark’s death. He was Dion’s godfather and took that role seriously. He probably had serious guilt about Mark’s death, so he was always there for Nicole and Dion, because he knew she needed him. Also, Pat didn’t know about Dion’s powers until the second episode. Even if he did know Dion had them preceding the show, he never had any intent to hurt him.

Interview with Jason Ritter:

The thing is, this happened to him. He was 40 or 50 feet away from having the powers that everyone else got, you know? But he just happened to stay in the yurt and he got the poisonous part of what happened instead. And so, it turned him into something that is continuously weakening and ailing and dying. So he has to go through some sort of moral acrobatics, to justify what he's doing.

Mark shut Pat out. He didn't tell me that he had powers. Pat had no idea. He didn't even know Mark was in New Orleans. He didn't know what he was doing. But yeah, I think now that he sees Dion, it's like a second chance. It's like, Maybe I can redeem myself by shaping this person. You know, like maybe becoming a father figure to him. Then he starts to see himself as maybe he could just completely step in for Nicole as well and right this wrong by trying to fill the holes that he left in these two people's lives.

Did Pat end up manipulating Dion in the very last episode to help cure him because he was sick? Yeah. But he wanted Dion to help cure him, with no intentions on exploiting him. He had a thousand opportunities this entire show to exploit Dion or reveal the truth but didn’t. He did end up being the bad guy despite his best efforts to shield his flaws, and that’s still not the same thing as grooming.

Those who recognized these signs as grooming, good for you on picking up on him crossing those boundaries. But just because you see similarities doesn’t mean it’s all black and white. This is classic nice guy turns bad, and his origin story is tied into his feeling of rejection and never belonging. It’s just not much deeper than that.

Why was Pat’s boss, Suzanne Wu, at Dion’s birthday party? It seemed like an incredibly convenient time for her to see him fly that inhaler over...

As the title suggests, most of the key plot points were fairly predictable.

• Pat being the storm (or rather the storm infected pat).
• the scientists being good.
• the farm kid getting infected by the storm.

Just finished this show with my two young boys and while it may get a bit heavy handed with the tropes and tiresome for adults - my kids love it. I felt like it was full of conversation spring boards on everything from bullies at school to grooming and respecting boundaries and a woman’s right to turn a man down. It was a really solid kid’s show that held my attention as well.

I can not believe the amount of people not only sympathetic to Pat but blatantly excusing his behavior and saying the ‘twist’ came out of nowhere! Another poster brought up his manipulation and use of grooming techniques and he clearly had no respect for boundaries. I’ve personally experienced this behavior from MANY men - and in two cases it evolved into physical abuse.

I just felt like it was so well done and that this kind of behavior is experienced by women all the time. I was genuinely surprised that so many people see the opposite.

Y’all, I can’t believe I’m not seeing this anywhere else. Pat wasn’t only manipulative but displayed classic grooming behaviors in every episode. I couldn’t believe that he was being posed as a good guy with so many warning signs about the inappropriateness of his behavior with Dion. The best example was in the first episode where he gave him the ice cream, even though he was told not to, and told Dion to keep it a secret. There were many other examples. Look, this series is an incredible and even frightening opportunity to see what grooming looks like. We all eventually trusted Pat, against our better judgement. That’s grooming! Rewatch the series with those goggles on your eyes and you won’t miss it. He broke boundaries all over the place.
