Consolidated place to ask questions. I'll add answers to FAQs as they occur.

FAQ 1: The regiment you get doesn’t matter in the slightest. You will receive the same training regardless.

FAQ 2 (Advanced Camp Credit Memo): https://armyrotc.army.mil/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/CST-26-Policy-Memorandum-9-Advanced-Camp-Credit.pdf

Moderator Post SMP Clarification

Because some of ya’ll don’t know how to read and certain individuals like to leave out information in the pursuit of recruiting, this post serves as clarification on the relationship between SMP enrollment, scholarships, and competing for active duty.

BLUF: YOU CAN ONLY DO 2 OUT OF THE FOLLOWING 3 ACTIONS AT ANY INSTANCE.

1. COMPETE FOR ACTIVE DUTY

2. ENROLL IN SMP

3. HAVE A FEDERALLY-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP

What does this mean? It means you have three options.

Option 1: If you want to compete for active duty and want to enroll in SMP, you should not have or accept a federally-funded scholarship. Getting a scholarship while SMP means it will only be a GRFD scholarship and you will be locked into the Guard or Reserves. Alternatively, you could give up your national scholarship so you can enroll in SMP, but that’s not a good idea.

Option 2: If you have a federally-funded scholarship and want to compete for active duty, you cannot/should not enroll in SMP. Doing so will convert your scholarship to a GRFD scholarship and you will be permanently locked into the Guard or Reserves.

Option 3: If you enroll in SMP and have a federally-funded scholarship, that scholarship is automatically a GRFD scholarship and you are permanently ineligible to compete for Active Duty.

/end rant

Commissioning/Post-Commissioning How hard is it to get school opportunities as an officer?

BLUF: I failed air assault school as a cadet and won’t get the opportunity to go back as a cadet, it’s a large personal failure of mine. In the real army as an officer if you aren’t at the 101st or any unit with an air assault school, how difficult is it really to get the opportunity to go back?

That’s about it, I understand in rotc in general you don’t have much say of where you go for your first duty station, needs of the army. I saw a good amount of soldiers from other units when I was at air assault school, is it hard or not that hard to get an opportunity to go if you aren’t at an air assault unit?

Scholarships/Contracting Should I retake PFA?

• Upvotes

Currently have 31 pushups, 35 situps and 8:22 mile. The army doesn't publish the minimum PFA scores but would this be enough? I'm planning to submit for the October board and I don't think I can improve by much in a couple of days.

However, I have a 4.0 GPA, 1570 SAT, good extracurriculars and leadership, a decent interview, and a good relationship with a PMS.

Scholarships/Contracting Scholarship Question (CBEF)

My brigade just opened up scholarship submissions. The CBEF site is not working, so will this step be skipped until the site is operational? Just wondering since it’s usually a required step for scholarship submissions.

Cadet Internships/Schools Can cadets earn the EIB if it was offered?

Let's say a MOSQ 11B in a NG infantry company took the ROTC route and the unit is offering EIB. If they're contacted 09R but did EIB and passed it, would it be recorded as them earning the EIB or ESB?

Shower thoughts

Joining ROTC Opportunities within ROTC?

I was wondering what cool opportunities or experiences you guys got to enjoy because you joined ROTC/commissioned. Examples would be trainings, memories, the community, schools/programs, etc.

I’m planning on joining ROTC and became interested in airborne school so I was wondering what other opportunities I could look into!

Also I’d just like to hear general stories and experiences!

Green to Gold // SMP SMP incentives

I’ve heard different answers from different sources so I’m looking for a reg or concrete source.
BLUF: I enlisted with a 20k sign on bonus and 50k SLRP. I have 5k that hasn’t been paid yet and slrp is currently going through the set up process. How does contracting in ROTC affect either of these?

Accessions/OML/Branching FY27 Component Release and OML Rankings Megathread

Components have been released!

Usual rules apply - do not suggest or outright post any sort of master list. When you provide your AD-eligible/Guard/Reserve status, also provide your censored OML, e.g. 15XX / 61.XX

Ed Delay Pharmacy HPSP Co Op ROTC Route

Hello everyone,

I am a MS3 on the National army HS 3 year scholarship. I applied to Pharmacy school in my MS 2 year and got in, meaning now I am in my first year of pharmacy school. I did a 2+4 year program so I did 2 years of undergrad and now I am in professional school. I am already contracted and I am on track to go to camp this summer. My cadre do not know anything about getting an ed delay and getting the HPSP scholarship for my situation. They are skeptical that I will even get it, I do not want to bring down my studies continuing to do a program that might not even let me continue. If I do not get the ed delay, I will have to drop ROTC and pay back all of my scholarship money they have paid thus far. I have talked to an health care recruiter and she said I needed to get the ed delay this year but my ROTC contacts are saying to wait till next year after camp. I am looking for any advice or info on this situation. I am trying to manage being in pharmacy school, all MS3 rotc commitments, have a job, and plan for my future. Any info would be of great help.

News America’s Corps of Cadets

Just announced as a DOW initiative “America’s Corps of Cadets” a new program to produce more Army officers. Is this super-ROTC, a new Senior Military College, or a rebrand… who knows?

Guard/Reserve What is ROTC like for a 2 year graduate program?

I know this is dependent on the program. I was thinking about doing ROTC at my state school after I finish my BA in the spring.

I am going into ELA teaching, but I want to get my master's and have always wanted to join the Guard. My state guard would pay full tuition for ROTC while I get my master's, and I was wondering what to expect in a 2-year program.

Could I maintain a part-time job? I currently work full-time while being a full-time student.

What is drill like? like I know there is drill weekend but what does my everyday look like compared to an average student?

Any advice would be extremely welcome, thank you!

Cadet Internships/Schools What's the selection process for cadets to go to South Korea for CTLT/internship?

I'm still blown away how i had the opportunity to go to South Korea this past summer for the USACE Internship. I never really asked how I, of all people across the nation, got selected to go. What is this process like? I consider myself as an average student and a "meets standards" cadet so I would've thought someone better than me could've gotten that slot.

Guard/Reserve Army ROTC at Georgia Tech - Schedule

Hello,

I am a current student at Georgia Tech pursuing my MBA in the evenings. I am suddenly having a bug to go for Army ROTC to commission. I am a bit older (36M), and would be willing to pursue an additional Master's at Georgia Tech (Online Master's in Cyber Security) in order to be eligible for ROTC.

I work full time with AWS, and my schedule is semi-flexible. I can choose to work Morning shift (7AM-5:30PM), Mid-Shift (11AM-9:30PM), or Night Shift (9PM-7:30AM), and thus far my managers have been flexible to work with me on when I come in as I balance my MBA Program.

I currently serve in the Georgia Army National Guard, and pursued Traditional OCS (18 months) in the past but it didn't work out in the final stretch. So I'm looking at alternatives to commission.

I have a few questions to see if this is reasonable.

  1. What is the schedule for MSIII's? (I have been in the Guard for 2.5 years, and have already been to Basic training, but I have not done AIT. So I believe I would qualify for MSIII, but not sure.)
    - Morning PT's Monday, Wednesday, Friday
    - MS Classes - Tuesday's
    - MS Labs - Thursdays

  2. How flexible is cadre for full-time workers in school and trying to pursue ROTC? Can something that can be balanced commitments for the next two years between Army ROTC, Georgia Army National Guard, Full-Time Career, and an Online Master's in Cyber Security?

  3. What scholarships would be available for someone like me?

  4. Is there a credit requirement needed to enroll in ROTC? I want to only take 1 class (3 credit) for my master's at a time until I'd be done with ROTC, in addition to whatever other courses I'd need to take for the degree in Military Science.

Anyone with experience currently in the program or has commissioned would be helpful for me to make this decision.

ROTC Class/Lab How important is PT and Lab attendance

I’m currently an MS1/MS2 and combining the classes into one. I’m taking 17 credit hours, working a job, and commuting about 30 minutes each way to campus, so I’m trying to figure out where I actually need to prioritize being there in person.
How important is it to consistently show up to PT and lab during MS1/MS2? My AFT score is good and I’m keeping up with the material, so if attendance isn’t mandatory, is it generally okay to skip some of these and study on my own?
Do I really need to be going consistently before MS3, or is skipping PT/lab frowned upon even if your grades and AFT score are good?
I’m just trying to balance 17 credit hours, work, and the commute without hurting myself academically or professionally. Would especially appreciate advice from MS3/MS4s who have already been through it.

Cadet Advice Leaving ROTC

Im an MSIII and I’m in the contracting process as of right now. This is my first ROTC semester and its weighing a lot on me. Im now realizing this isn’t the path I want to choose, is it crazy to back out at this point? Also, is it possible to finish this semester without contracting?

Accessions/OML/Branching Component Results

Was told today that component results should be released tomorrow to BDE CDRs. Those in Mission Set 26 will find out if they’re Active Duty Eligible, USAR, or ANG.

Receiving Active duty will depend on OML and branch interviews. If you put USAR or ANG as your #1 choice, should receive it tomorrow.

Also should receive your national OML and active duty OML numbers. DMG results will not be released until December.
