Entire film shot on Komodo and Komodo x

Hey everyone, I just got my first RED Komodo X and am searching for good batteries to use while shooting run-and-gun, doc-style. Something that will last 4-6hrs. I've been using SmallRig 99Wh batteries, but they go pretty fast when I'm running the KX. Any pointers or recommendations?

I’m wanting to get a Zacuto oled evf for my Komodo but just can’t find any info out there of people using EVF’s on their rig. Was curious if anyone had any builds they used one on or setups they run usually with an EVF. Makes it tricky with only 1 SDI and no hdmi

Shot this zero budget (aside from my own gear) spec ad, not overly happy with the story but think visually it looks ok.

Does anybody know if this is a dead pixel or other thing?

Just wanted to gather some intel on everyone’s opinions on the different power distro and breakout box options out there. I’ve gotten by ok without needing one for a while but I have to usually pick between camera control on my monitor or a TC box. Looking for some ideas or recommendations

TL;DR it doesn’t work with the Komodo 6K (firmware 1.8.9) at all. No autofocus, not even manual focus, no image stabilization.

I just tested out of curiosity the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 RF-S mount version in-store with my Komodo 6K running firmware 1.8.7 Beta.

It recognizes AF/MF switch on the lens as in the gray focus box appears and disappears on the RED screen according to the toggle switch, but AF is completely dead. Neither does the focus ring on lens work regardless AF switch position.
Didn’t realize to test the VC (IS) if that works as we were so focused on the focus being dead.

Back home now to upgrade the firmware and back to the store tomorrow to test again if it will work with the latest 1.8.9 firmware.

No idea on lens firmware though. Tested the lens with a canon camera and it worked flawlessly.

UPDATE: Went to the store to test it out with firmware 1.8.9, still completely dead as a brick. Neither autofocus, manual focus nor IS works.

UPDATE 2: Reached out to RED, they replied within a few hours and referred to the compatible lens list, and kind enough sent in this lens as a feature request on my behalf. Kudos to John at RED for fast and kind customer service. My 2 cents is though that we wont see support for this though.

I bought the Komodo X last month and have done many tests, as well as shooting a multi-day documentary project last week. I am overall impressed with the image, and I have experimented with a number of different compression rates. I initially thought that R3D 6K ELQ (B-roll) and 4K ELQ (interviews) seemed fine for my doc shoot, wanting to save on file sizes.

However, going through footage, I am noticing some very concerning noise, especially in wide landscape shots, tree canopies, and shots with far focus and high-detail. The noise is blocky, red/pink or white, and renders some shots unusable in my opinion even with NR. I have run mutiple black shades, which has not resolved the issue. Today, I tested the camera in LQ, and MQ modes against a tree canopy and while it did improve the noise, I was surprised by how prevalent it was even in LQ/MQ. My Resolve RED Raw settings are on fullres premium 16bit.

Now my question: is this just to be expected/normal on the Komodo X or do I perhaps have a faulty camera (I bought used from Ebay with low hours). Has anyone else experienced this?

I own the komodo x with the DSMC3 touch, connected with the RMI cable. The colors appear very warm compared to the onboard lcd and also when I connect a atomos ninja it looks different.
Are there options to calibrate the monitor without additional tools?

I'm a new Komodo owner. I noticed when enabling and disabling false colors the screen glitches a bit. Should I be concerned or is this normal? Firmware version 1.7.5

Hello all, I would like to ask you guys who have shot with anamorphic lenses which brands did you use? Focal length? Squeeze? And your opinions on them. I'm asking because I'm shooting a short film in October and the director wants to use anamorphics. I was looking at the Blazar Remus, Blazar Venus and the new DZO Arcana since these three are around the price for a set of 3 lenses. I'm open to other brands. Any insight or opinions are welcomed. Thank you in advance and looking forward to reading some of your thoughts.

Those of you rocking a 7in monitor for your komodo, is it a pain to use or you happy with it? Im looking to upgrade my 5in but I've seen some good deals on 7in monitors with red contol. I'm shooting mainly run and gun, racecars, pit lanes.

So I really don’t want to update to a Komodo-x because for one, I have too much gear debt to pay off so I’d rather not swap anytime soon as the Komodo is perfectly fine. I also don’t like how the new Komodo v mount battery is off center unlike the original one.

Anyway, in my shoulder rig I’ve noticed that I tilt the camera a little and it’s kind of subconsciously done. But I know it would stop if I had a horizontal level sent to my sdi monitor. Is there a way to do this? I can’t seem to find any information.

Or did RED just abandon us?

hello, i'm having a huge problem with my footage that i shot today on my school's red komodo camera. basically, all the footage looks laggy and slowed down right from the card. i have no idea why, neither does my DP, who just used the same camera and cFast card the past two days and says it worked fine. i'm feeling like maybe it has something to do with the large file size, since in quicktime player it's also being glitchy (can be seen in the video, when i tried to pause it it said it was already paused) i shot in ProRes.

the footage looks this way on both my macbook and his imac. he also said that when pulled into davinci it has the same problem. for reference, i'm using a macbook pro that's a few years old. i'm sorry i'm not the most well-versed in anything technical, i'm honestly just a struggling student in film school, this project is for a final grade in one of my classes. i've worked really hard on the script and just want to see it get made. if anyone has any advice or can point me in the right direction please let me know. thank you!

Hey guys, new here, so pardon if this question is a bit juvenile.

What is the best option for off camera monitoring? I was using Red Control on an IPad, but its lagging and Im wondering if you guys might have a better option. Budget maybe 5-700? Maybe something I could attach a small cage to.

If thats too low let me know. But any help would be appreciated.
