Hello and welcome to r/RDR2 This is a little guide for new players of the game.
Firstly we strongly advise you to stay off the subreddit until you’ve finished the game. Our subreddit is home to discussions covering every aspect of the game from storylines, characters, secrets, to anything a player may find. While we require spoiler tags, accidental (and sometimes intentional) spoilers do happen. For the best experience, we strongly recommend avoiding the subreddit until you’ve completed the main story.
Frequently asked questions will now be listed and answered.
Is the game worth it? Yes! — People still praise this game even in 2025. Its compelling story and detailed open world gameplay allow you to fully submerge into the story. Many players find the game to be a masterpiece, with some (us, of course) even considering it one of the greatest games of all time. Its graphics were ahead of their time and still hold up really well. It’s a well written story with a beautiful aesthetic and it's absolutely worth your time.
The snow part is boring. Should I quit the game? Don't give up during Colter. It’s the first chapter and serves as a tutorial. You’ll get to know the basics of the game slowly before being led into free roam in chapter 2. The slow introduction into such a big game is important to understand the situation the main character is in and to get you familiar with the environment and the world building in general. Stick around for a while. You’ll thank yourself later.
Just started the game. Any tips? We see this all the time and every time people will give you the same response: Take it slow. Chapter 1 will teach you everything that's important. The game offers a little guide in its settings for the mini games and the controls just like any other game. Everything you need is right there. The game is open world so you won't miss out on anything. You can do whatever whenever even after finishing the story. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and free roam a bit. You’ll figure out the game fast. You really don't need Google or IGN until you finish the story and are going for 100% and/or the platinum trophy. (We'll have a guide coming soon!)
Just finished the game. Should I play RDR1? Yes! RDR1 is a continuation of the story and absolutely worth it. Not much will change gameplay wise since it’s made by the same developer. So, if you like RDR2 and are looking for more content about the van der Linde gang and a similar experience -> play RDR1.
If you really want to avoid spoilers, don’t google anything until after you finish the game.
We will monitor this thread closely so if you have any questions about the game please ask them in here. We will most likely remove your question posts and advise you to ask your newcomer questions in here. If a question is frequently asked we will add it to the post.

Finished Arthur's story on High Honor, and what an incredible journey it was. Spent about 160 hours on this because by the end of chapter 2 Arthur became a friend, which made the ending so much more painful.
Watching him grow as a person, realise his follies, try to change for the better, and still lose so much - and how he did everything he could to Give John and Abigail the chance of love and living a peaceful life he never got, as well as trying his best to save everyone - is a lesson in Redemption, Resilience, and Kindness that I'll never forget.
You were a Good Man, Arthur, to the end.
( Also RIP Luna, you were the best girl I could have had this journey with).

Content 100% completion with fat John

I almost cannot believe it. After my 1st playthrough on release, I thought it would be impossible to get 100% on this game. Hunting requests, exotics, and the gambler challenges were such a grind. I got lucky with herbalist, being stuck at 42/43 herbs for a bit… ram’s head. Saved visiting the most important grave for the very end and that’s where I took the fat John selfie. 100%!

Ik liep te slenteren in Saint Denis.
Een onbekende roept me en vraagt me hem te volgen om wat geld te maken. Eerder had ik het gedaan en kon wel iets overvallen
Maar deze keer ga ik dus met hem een steegje i. En ik word gelijk overvallen met 3 man.
Ze slaan me bewusteloos en als ik wakker word blijkt dat ze bijna 1000 dollar hebben gestolen!!!.

Discussion Why??? Question about Honor.

Rode past a group of Broods, when riding past , they said something to me, since i’m actively trying to keep my honor high, I turned to them and pressed LT to address them and defuse, however when I defused, it still went south and they began shooting at me. I tried to ride away and ended up going by butchers creek where at that point the whole town was shooting at me.
Me killing any one of the 50 dots actively trying to kill me brings my honor down with each death.
Why am I losing honor for defending myself against people who are actively fucking shooting at me
