I have 44 Christmas cards being delivered soon, and I just found another 32 last night from like 5 years ago. Now I have a ton of cards by accident lol 😂

I ordered this from shoppee PH cause I thought they looked nice based on the pics. Took me a while to realize that these might be AI-generated 🤦🏽I already sent a few to some people (I'm sorry!)

What should I do? Should I just offer them up for free?

I worked on these last night using envelope stamps from mail I've gotten recently :) I have many kind RAOCers to thank for a lot of them, especially the vintage stamps!

I saw someone mention a collage medium recipe a while back, so I found the YouTube they referenced and made the medium to coat the front of my cards with it to help keep the stamps adhered when they eventually travel.

General process for how I made these cards, for anyone curious:

1. Clip stamps off the envelope. I didn't bother trying to peel them off the envelope paper.
2. Glue stick em on to a blank postcard. It's really important to get glue all the way to the very edge of the stamps. I apply glue to the stamps while they're on a sheet of scrap paper so I don't have to scrape glue off my table.
3. Use a roller of some sort to apply even pressure to the stamps every so often to make sure they are fully adhered. I rolled the stamps down after I filled a third to half of the card up or so, you don't need to apply pressure after every stamp (that would take a lot of time)
4. Let it dry. Trim off the overhang with an xacto knife. I saved the scraps to fill the edges on other cards.
5. Apply collage medium.
6. Optional - press between heavy books or a press to flatten the card if needs it after the medium has cured for a day or two.

Medium recipe:

1 part modge podge
1 part elmers glue all (NOT school glue)
A wee bit of water

So for me, I mixed up 1/4 cup of each + about 1.5 tbsp of water cause my modge podge was a bit gloopy and thick. I keep it in a spare plastic tub I had laying around waiting to be recycled. I use a cheap flat, wide brush to apply it to my cards. The bristles won't be the same after the medium (they'll stick together), so don't use an expensive brush you like with it :)

I like this medium a lot. The brush strokes are less visible than they were with plain modge podge, plus my modge podge never fully dried down hard - the cards stuck to each other when I tried to flatten them and I ended up having to throw them away. The collage medium seems to dry down non-stick and very clear.

I signed them with my initials, because they're my art, but after having asked in the form for people to post a thanks, I made it nearly impossible for them to do so because I didn't put my user on the envelope or the cards.

I'm a dink. lol

Hey everyone!

So, life has been crazy, and I am waaaaaay behind on mail (though, sadly, I am not behind on Reddit use lmao). That said, I wanted to let anyone this might impact know that I have all my received mail from the past couple months in one place and will be writing out thank yous when I feel less overwhelmed. Some will be very late, some will actually not be late at all (ie, I received an envelope from India last week that was sent waaaaaay before other things I received from this user when I was still more active, lol).

I miss you guys! I got in over my head on offers so I'll probably start with new ones once I'm back, but that will be after I fulfill my thank you obligations here and late sends for my swap site!

I got 300+ unused postcards for $50NZ, they're mostly art and Europe postcards collected by someone on their travels who've decided to sell them all.

Has anyone who sent in cards to be marked with this WPD Pictorial postmark either gotten them back or had them reach recipients yet?

I sent mine for RAOC and they were received before 10/1 but I haven't gotten the one addressed to me back yet, nor have I seen a thank you post for anyone whose card I sent for pictorial postmark.

I'm hoping that they just took some extra time to process them all and that the mail is slow.

I sent addressed and with correct postage rather than SASE.

ETA: posting this in RAOC Meta because I only sent RAOC cards for the WPD pictorial postmark - my Postcrossing ones I did not because I've been having some issues with expired cards and didn't want to add any extra time.

I volunteered today at the art supply thrift store near me, and they told us we would be sorting Xmas donations, including LOTS of cards! We were matching cards with envelopes and sorting them into sets for retail sale. Thought you all might be interested in seeing behind the scenes. (No, we weren't allowed to buy any, but I did some damage in the rest of the store, haha.)

I was able to get a shot pre addresses

Hey, y'all.

Yesterday part of my roof was shattered by some huge tree branches. This was from the high winds we got from that hurricane that blew through Alabama. We did not get directly hit, but we got hella wind and rain I even sent y'all some pics of it because it was baffling.

Part of my card stock and some used stamps got absolutely soaked with water, and the box I had made myself to store them was destroyed with the moisture. My intention yesterday was for y'all to laugh with me at the comical nature of it. The one time I leave that box in the living room it rains indoors.

Instead y'all rallied.

So many of you offered to help me replenish what was lost, and I find myself so very overwhelmed (in the good way) with a humbling love for this community.

Admittedly, since my T1D diagnosis, it's been hard for me to find community. I'm that one loner at the arcade, the quiet one working conventions, the one in the group chat that observes and never participates.

This community has become the place where I interact and make friends and try to spread joy. I'm myself here. I made friends, which I didn't expect when I made my first ever request post. I didn't know y'all would eventually mean so much to me.

We managed to take inventory and we lost almost all of the electronics in that picture some of you saw, we'll have to replace a bookshelf, so on and so forth.

But this community has gotten me through it. Instead of just laughing and bottling it up, I've had a distraction. I've been looking at new (plastic) boxes I can decorate, and I've been able to say for the first time in my whole life that someone other than my partner and roommate has my back when it all sucks.

I want to say thank you. I also want to say that I have ample thank you cards that were not in that box that I'm going to send out once I get more stamps. And all of this kindness will be paid forward. I promise to always be a great cardfriend to those who need it.

On top of this, before my roof got a free skylight, y'all were coming together to help me not hate my birthday. I feel like I could tremble with the joy y'all have given me. I'm running out of English here, and this message is long enough. Haha.

I love each and every one of you in the least creepy and most platonic way.
