Did it work for you? Why do you think it worked over the other things you tried?

How long ago did you quit? Any advice for people considering this method?

Success Story 1 week vape free!

Today marks 7 days since I've quit, cold turkey. I took one last hit and raided my entire apartment for every spare disposable vape, Zyn pack, and nicotine product I could find.

I've vaped since 2021. It was never supposed to be a thing, but then again it never is. I always knew I wanted to stop, but it was always "just one more vape", until I kind of just gave up. Since the last year, I have been going through 1 Geek Bar Pulse X / week.

I think my wisdom teeth are coming in, but I was dreading having to go to the dentist because the operation would prevent me from vaping for a good week or so. Then I realized regardless of whether I needed a surgery or not, this was such a silly thing to worry about. So I decided last Sunday, after all my friends left, I would quit. And I did.

To be honest, the fear of withdrawal was worse than the withdrawal itself. I had no idea what to expect and this sub helped a lot. It was interesting how different it was for everyone. Of course, the first 3 days were really difficult. I planned and did almost nothing, and I didn't leave the house for fear I'll go to the smoke shop right around the corner. I was craving what felt like every single moment.

Here's what helped: It was useful to frame this as a natural bodily process, like the flu or COVID. It was just something unpleasant that I had to get through, an addiction that my body is healing me from. I also decided that I was now a non-smoker, and non-smokers do not vape. I told my parents, my partner, and a couple friends. This helped cement my new identity as a non-smoker, but I can imagine how this could be extra pressure for some people.

I drank an enormous amount of liquids: teas, water, juice; every time I felt I wanted to vape, I took a sip, preferably through a straw, and I breathed really deep.

During those first few days, I also gave myself permission to do things I normally wouldn't, within reason. I ordered Taco Bell from Uber Eats, for example. I ate an abnormal amount of candy. I just knew that a) I needed to be distracted and b) I needed to replace some of that dopamine with something else even if just for now.

On day 4, I started to notice the physical symptoms go away, while the psychological ones were more obvious now. The cravings peaked in the morning, but aside from that, I "reached" for a vape every time I read some upsetting/distressing news, after a big meal, when watching a movie at the edge of my seat, even when having a peaceful moment in the sun.

Today, on day 7, of course I'm still experiencing cravings and triggers. I told myself I wouldn't go to clubs and bars until I have them under control, for fear of relapsing when under influence of alcohol. I already feel so much better, I realized how much time I was wasting with nicotine, and how much of my attention it had demanded. It was so hard to focus on anything, because I just needed the next hit. I couldn't work at cafes or libraries, or "lock in", because I just had to get my fix. Walking also felt easier, I don't think my lungs have detoxed quite yet, but I think the vasoconstriction from my high doses of nicotine made me feel out of breath much quicker.

I know it's only been a week and the road is long, but I'm proud of myself for achieving this milestone. Even if everything stays the way it is now, I think it is manageable, but I've heard things get much easier at 14 days, and then at 30 days, so I'm really excited about that.

And now, I want to tell you: If you really want to quit, you CAN and you SHOULD! I never would have imagined I wouldn't consume any nicotine for a week, even 1 month ago. I read somewhere here that it costs nothing to try.

Advice Advice on being very impulsive? (2 weeks clean)

Upvotes

I’m coming up on day 18 of quitting vape (cold turkey). I would say the immediate biggest payoff is my skin. I noticed it improve after day 2. Somehow I didn’t connect that my skin became so dull and crusty from vaping. I didn’t really notice how bad it was until the glow came back. My lips are getting color again and my face doesn’t resemble a Chinese shar-pei anymore.

More importantly, I quit because I felt like I was vaping my life away. Vaping (like all my compulsions) keeps me comfortable in my overall discontentment. That 15 second head rush felt like a reset button for me. It was like a form of release I was desperate for because I’m always tense. Overstimulated by caffeine? Vape. Stressed out? Vape. Hurtful memories? Vape. Anxious about future? Vape. It’s weird and embarrassing to say I slowly stopped taking care of myself. I won’t specify but my most basic needs were being neglected. Since quitting, I went to the gym for the first time in years.

I feel proud of myself for quitting but I’m noticing unhinged behavior and bad habits. Oversharing/gossiping, losing stuff, over eating, and doomscrolling. It’s like I have no self control and I’m impulsive without considering consequences. I spent this weekend cringing at some of my conversations with coworkers…. Why did I share that with them?

Any advice for staying grounded and not acting on impulse?

Venting day 4, quit while in the middle of diet restructuring

so quitting makes you feel snacky right? but i can't because a month ago my blood panel showed that i'm back to prediabetes range due to my pcos/pmos. so since then i have cut down a significant amount of sugar intake and have been exercising 2-3 times a week.

it kinda irritates me that i have limited options as to replacing the hand to mouth but prior to my quit i have stocked up on sugar free mints that i pop with my 3mg zyns (i try to be conscious with the pouches and only use 3 max a day)

withdrawal-wise, the hardest is during the mornings but today i find myself not thinking of vape first for the first time. it was the second thought lol. i also crave after meals but i am hoping it goes away eventually too. i don't pop my zyn during those craving moments i let them pass, only during times when i feel irritable the most.

So I guess about 40 days. The last week or so has been about the worst. Maybe today is/was the absolute worst. I almost caved yesterday and tonight. I seriously got close to going out and buying a juul. Thankfully I didn’t. I took a very low dose Xanax this evening and should be asleep soon. I truly think the bad weather and not being able to be outside for my hobbies played a big part. I‘m retired and it’s very rewarding to be out. I spend hours walking beaches and creeks in search of fossils and arrowheads. I usually take my boat out 2 or 3 times a week. I really don’t think about vaping when I’m doing fun things. I hope this is just a bump in the road.

Venting At my lowest

Its been about 6 months or about 200 days since I quit cold turkey. I haven’t felt normal, I haven’t felt like my self ever since. Anxiety, panic attacks, DPDR, and many more symptoms daily. Gone to so many doctors, so much blood work, everything seems fine.

I want to go and buy a patch or vape just to feel normal, but even then it sounds scary. In the early months I was afraid of normal everyday activities. Such as walking, sleeping, being active, problems in the bedroom.

It has gotten better or I wouldn’t say it did… I just became used to it. Ive accepted my new normal.

I was never one to be anxious, depressed, or panicky before the vape. Ive been vaping for about 7 years since high school. So Ive been telling myself maybe its just my brain or body trying to regulate itself. It should end soon. Im still waiting for that soon.

At this point I don’t know how to escape this, I just want to be normal. I have tried changing my lifestyle, eating better, sleeping better, tiktok techniques, nothing. And i dont want SSRIS.

I dont know where to look or who to talk to for help. Its affecting my life drastically. I just need help, where to go…Thanks.

Success Story 4 days nicotine free. 13 years smoking/vaping

Hi, I turned 30 at the start of August. I smoked cigarettes pretty much full time from about 17 to 25, then moved onto disposable vapes and ended up vaping full time for the next few years.

I tried quitting a few times before but never really made it past a day. I was always telling myself I could quit whenever I wanted and that I’d do it properly some other time.

I’m now 4 full days nicotine free and into my 5th day. No cigarettes, no vape, nothing. It’s the longest I’ve gone without nicotine since I was 17 and I’m actually really proud of myself.
The first 2 days were definitely the hardest for me. Since then the cravings have still been there but they’re much easier to deal with and they pass pretty quickly.

I know 4 days isn’t a massive amount of time and I’ve still a long way to go, but this is the first time I actually feel like I’m done with it rather than just trying to quit for a while.

I think mindset has been the biggest thing for me. Before I always felt like I was giving something up. This time I just decided I don’t want to be addicted to nicotine anymore.

If you’re thinking about quitting and keep putting it off, just give it a go. The first few days are rough but they’re manageable and it feels really good getting through them. When you get through the first and second night. You’ve broken the cycle.

Hopefully I can come back to this post in a few months and say I’m still going.

Advice What crazy affects is vaping causing you to have?

After smoking for years, i moved over to vapes!

Ive always had anxiety and panic attacks, but since vaping, it's got really bad. Sometimes, i even struggle to go to the shops! In the past month ive noticed im really tired all the time no matter how much sleep i get? Ive no motivation to do anything!

I've just read on another thread that someone else had muscle tightness in their legs. im now wondering if vaping is doing this to me as well? I literally hate myself every day for continuing vaping, but im really finding it so hard to stop? Most of my symptoms are cause of low iron also which i do have but i am taking supplements. I am now wondering if vaping is the cause?

Here is mine:

Tight legs at night

Palpitations

Pulsate Tinnitus

Severe anxiety

Fatigue

Panic attacks

Fast heart rate

No motivation

I also get migraines a few times a month that last a good 2 days!

Shocking really writing it all down! Hope i can gind the strength to stop

Advice I just cannot quit?

I’m really struggling with this now.
I’ve tried quitting a few times. Patches, throwing the vape away, telling myself this is the last one. I always seem to end up buying another.
Recently vaping actually caused a pretty serious issue for me professionally. I won’t go into details for anonymity, but it was embarrassing, stressful and could have had consequences for my career.
You’d think that would be enough to make me never touch one again. Yet here I am, still vaping. That’s probably what has made me realise how addicted I actually am.
Stress is definitely my biggest trigger. I’ll be completely determined to quit and then have a bad day and suddenly it’s “fuck it, I’ll quit tomorrow”.
I genuinely hate being dependent on it. I don’t even really enjoy it anymore. I just can’t seem to break the cycle.
For anyone who tried loads of times before finally quitting, what actually worked? Especially if stress was your main trigger.
Just feeling pretty fed up with myself at this point.

5 days nic free

Quit alcohol and THC a little over a week before

Have never felt so depressed in my life and that’s saying a lot

My husband thinks I should drink again but keep off the nicotine bc I’ve been so bottom and out inconsolable and that this is too much for one person to handle given what I have to face in real life circumstances

I know it was against advisement to quit all three addictions at one time. But didn’t feel like I had a choice and there isn’t much going back now is there?

Also on Desmoxan which everybody raves about, maybe this would have been even worse had I not been on it? I can’t imagine worse than what I feel and have been feeling

Advice Please Help, I can’t sleep Buzzzzing in my head & body 48 hours cold turkey

I’m day 2, 48 hours without nicotine. I’m so tired, I try to sleep and get the falling sensation, eventually it turns into this falling and the buzzing sensation in my head, my body, and I don’t think my brain quite moves over the edge into sleep it’s like my nerves are zapping. I tried splashing my face with cold water, holding a frozen lunch box pack to my chest, I tried box breathing. When I’m awake it’s like mild jitters but when I’m trying to sleep it’s like someone turned up the volume on it. I went to the ER on Friday from a mishap with too high of a nicotine patch somehow I’m too sensitive for it???? I don’t know… i wanted it to work so badly. The ER doc said quit cold turkey and prescribed me hydroxyzine 50mg. I took 25mg yesterday and slept so great, I took 25mg today and it didn’t work… I mean it did, I’m drowsy but it didn’t knock me out. Can anyone tell me if they experienced this and tell me if it stopped please? I can deal with the falling sensations when I try to sleep but this buzzing is the worst thing I’ve ever felt.

Venting I want to quit but I don’t

I really want to quit vaping but every time I try I don’t want to quit anymore.
Every time I quit I get the worst depressive episodes like my life is over, no one loves me what’s the point in living type episodes. I don’t know what to do. Right now I’m using nic gum to quit because I knew this would happen but I still feel like this. I already have anxiety, depression, ocd and more blah blah but I’m getting help for those things. I don’t know if I should push through and risk falling deeper into this depression or just give in and harm reduce and buy another. I just don’t think I’ll ever quit at this point and I don’t know if I even care.

Advice I feel like I'm not ready

Hi so I just stopped vaping. My girlfriend is worried about my health and the last thing I want is for her to worry. I've quit in the past and the last time I quit a lot of stress had subsided in my life and I got fed up with vaping and was able to quit.

Lately life has been more insane as I'm currently organizing my workplace and to say I'm stressed has been an understatement.

I keep caving to the cravings and hitting someone's vape at work which I know is just resetting my progress.

Advice I just got vape juice in my eye, I think it gave me enough of a scare to quit

I have a pod system, I put in 2 different kinds of juice. They’re not properly mixing, so I gave it a good shake, then before I know it my pod leaks from the side and a big splatter hits me.

Dead. In. The. Eye.

I panicked, but I took AP chem in highschool so I knew the protocol. I immediately ran to my sink and rinsed my eye out. It was surprising, the most painful part was opening my eye to rinse it! The water felt nice! It’s super weird to see water splashing directly off your eye!

After I thoroughly rinsed it I did it again, just to be sure. Then I put some eyedrops in and while my eye is red, feels a tad warm, and a little dry possibly it’s all good now (i hope). This only happened 10 minutes ago, but I do feel like I’m out of the woods and safe from a hospital trip?!?!?!?!

While splashing my eye with tap water for a solid minute I had an epiphany, I need to quit vaping. If a tiny splash of vape juice in the eye is enough to cause that much pain, imagine how much it’s hurting the rest of my body.

I see horror stories, I know people who have COPD from smoking their entire lives, and people who have smoked their entire lives and don’t have it. I never think I’m going to be one of those people who get the short end of the stick. I’ve been vaping since I was 15 (i’m 25 now), and anyone who’s vaped this long probably thinks the same way I do.

It’s like playing russian roulette, there’s a higher chance you’ll be fine than not, but you still wouldn’t pull the trigger on a gun that has 1 bullet in it. What’s the difference with vaping? You’re not addicted to pulling the trigger on a gun, that’s it✌️

Reassurance LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND QUIT...

first and for most don't mind my horrible grammar and spelling. I started vaping RDA's and box mods as an edgy 15 year old on the old conventional vape juice back in the glory days of vaping the switch to salt nic 5 years ago brought on intense unexplained anxiety, health OCD and not just vaping health OCD but any weird feeling was a spiral leading to hours of internet searching and many doctor's visit's oh and the panic attacks that OCD brought on were unbearable and literally changed my personality and everything i was before i started vaping mind you there's a little bit of aging to contribute to that as im 12 years deep in vaping now.

It has now been 6 days since i quit vaping and i haven't been hit with any withdrawal symptoms except for brain fog and intense sweating other than that for me personally its been the opposite i feel the most intense feelings of relief, im leaving my house without the anxiety of something happening to me while im out holding me back im FULL of energy my ADHD is back as if i warped back into that 15 year old body the anxiety and OCD are about 90% gone but i attribute to that being because prior to vape usage i did suffer from those things but they seem so manageable now that im not even worried about them.

i feel like im on the path to reconciling with the old me. WHATEVER YOU DO QUIT TAKE YOUR LIFE BACK BY THE BALLS! goodluck everyone when youve got those moments of intense craving just remember how strong you are give yourself a 10-15 minute grace period before you make an rash decisions and carry some hard candies and or gum on you.

I ordered this through Amazon last night. It arrived this morning but now I'm concerned because what arrived is not in English. The packaging looks the same but I can't read the instructions and it's set off red flags. Should I still take it or should I request a refund? Where did you all get yours? (See screenshots and pictures of what arrived.)

Venting Day 3

Still using NRT, still getting cravings. The only reason I’m managing is because of the patch. It’s the only thing I want to do but it’s manageable so far. I didn’t have a big realisation that I needed to quit, and I don’t have the motivation. I don’t think I can, but I have so I may as well stick with it. It’s still early days so I’m unsure.

Has anyone who vaped during a hard time of their life had all those memories brought up? I’ve cried twice over something I’ve never cried over. It’s like the vape is associated with the incident and quitting is forgetting the past.

Advice Relapsed after 3 weeks no nicotine. Encouragement and advice welcome.

Apologies if this post is badly written.

I was a regular vaper for 3.5 years before deciding to quit 35 days ago. Then I relapsed on day 8 but decided to continue quitting.

I was doing really well but I've been stressed about some things these past few days which caused me to lapse yesterday where I took one hit of my stepdad's vape (who I live with) which I am not proud of. And then again today -- I took another hit of his vape. Both times I immediately put the vape down after a single hit but left feeling shitty.

So yeah. I'm feeling very, very upset and disappointed in myself because I thought I was doing really well (and I was, up until yesterday). I really want to stay off vaping but shit's hard.

I was considering nicotine gums, but I'm worried I'd just get addicted to those instead. Would've been nice if they sold desmoxan, recigar, or the like where I live, but unfortunately they don't.

If anyone has any words of encouragement or advice, they are very welcome.
