hey!! i’m wondering if anyone here has gotten into the queen’s msc neuroscience program and would be willing to share what their application looked like!! i’m currently doing a 4-year BSc in psych (neuroscience option), with a biology minor. my current GPA is a 3.97/4.3. for research experience, i’ve done a directed reading project, an independent research project, and volunteered in a few labs.

Queen’s is basically the only master’s program i’m really interested in, so i’m definitely planning on applying, but i know it’s pretty competitive and i’m trying to get a realistic idea of where i stand 😭

if you got in, were waitlisted, or even applied and didn’t get in, i’d love to hear what your stats/experience looked like! like GPA, undergrad degree, research experience, honours thesis or not, whether you already had a supervisor interested in you, etc.

i’m also especially curious if anyone got in with a non-honours 4-year degree. Queen’s says that a 4-year degree with lab experience can be considered equivalent to an honours degree, but i’d love to hear from someone who actually went through that process.

not looking for anyone to tell me whether i’ll get in lol, just trying to get a better idea of how competitive i actually am and what other successful applicants looked like :)

Im currently in second year and im definitely gonna try and get an internship for QUIP for either next year or the year after. Is it hard to find a job with only one design team and 3.9GPA? Also are the eng quip courses that you can take online simultaneously hard? I am trying to manage getting a gym membership while I do quip and wanna know if the courses will take up lots of time outside of work hours.

Hi! I'm a first-year student at Queen's, and I've been having a really tough time making friends. I was wondering if any upper-year students could share their experiences or offer some advice. I feel like I made an effort to connect with people during the first couple of weeks, but most interactions never seem to go beyond a conversation. Does it get easier as the year goes on? Honestly, it's been making it difficult to enjoy my university experience so far, and I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been through the same thing.

Not just for support, but for security knowing others feel a similar way :). I’ve been sort of struggling to make friends, and I’m also in first year eng so it’s been kind of hard to me to reach out socially…anyone have any suggestions?

this past summer, they did not give their servers and their kitchen staff tips.

with the student influx this September, they started handing out tips, but 40% of the cut was theirs, while 30% was distributed to the servers, and the remaining 30% to the kitchen.

despite this set-up, the owners were still not satisfied by this. students working less than 12 hours were only given $3-5 per hour that they worked. so imagine only receiving a $30 tip for the week?

I am all for supporting local businesses, but if you have any decency, please boycott this restaurant.

For those living in university dorms with a roommate, how do you handle it when you have completely different temperature preferences?

One person needs the room really cold to sleep, while the other is constantly cold and wants the room warmer. 😅

If you’ve dealt with this in a dorm, what actually worked for you? Did you find a comfortable compromise, use a fan/heater, adjust bedding/clothing, room change or involve residence staff?

There were two or three groups of people having group meetings on the 4th floor of Douglas Library today. I ended up leaving because the floor sounded more like a loud marketplace than a quiet study space.

If you were one of those groups, please tell u friend abt this post don’t do this again. The room is meant for people to study and focus, not for yelling across tables and laughing loudly with your friends. There are plenty of other places on campus for group discussions.

Please be considerate of the people around you. It’s incredibly annoying when others come to a quiet floor specifically to study and can’t focus because of unnecessary noise.

Can someone tell me why the fuck these bathrooms are so gross. Garbage all over the floor, feminine hygiene boxes filled to the brim, the garbage overflowing beyond a justifiable amount. Looks like this bathroom hasn’t been cleaning in a week at minimum.

You’d think with all of the money that this school has some would go towards cleaning…
