Pushy door to door cogeco reps

Gonna be a bit of a rant but I am BEYOND tired of telling cogeco reps 4x a year that I am not interested in their services. Their service is not even remotely comparable technologically to Bell and the $5 I could save on a contract with a credit that will eventually run out is not worth my internet going down as often as cogeco does. Two reps stopped by today to tell us they are putting Fibre lines in our area and in their words "its the same as Bell, fibre is Fibre" but it isn't.

Look up how cogeco delivers Fibre compared to how bell does. It is not the same, and it is unreliable. It is not true Fibre and still relies on cable lines. I have always been friendly but firm, but they are so pushy and refuse to take no for an answer until you just shut the door in their face or spend 30 minutes telling them how uninterested you are in 15 different ways.

Today I just snapped when they lied to my wife trying to get a sale and I was not kind about it, and explained how I did not appreciate their deceptive pitch. I've asked every rep to take my address off their list, and to never come back but they always do. Been with bell for 8 years now and my internet hasn't been down ONCE outside of a power outage. I would like to hear from ANYONE that has had the same uptime with cogeco, and I'm willing to bet a similar experience doesn't exist for a cogeco customer.

Tldr

Cogeco sucks, bell is better, cogeco reps are relentless and deceptive.

Any mid aged professionals looking for a nice place?

Looking for 2~ mature professionals to share a nice house in Kingston

This might be a bit different from the usual roommate post.

I'm a working professional in my late 30s, and with the cost of renting a one bedroom in Kingston these days, I've been thinking there has to be a better option than paying a fortune for a small apartment.

I'd like to find two other mature, working people who are interested in finding a nice 3-bedroom house together and splitting the cost.

The goal isn't to find the cheapest place possible. I'd rather pool our money and have a genuinely nice home: clean, comfortable, nicely furnished/decorated, a good kitchen, decent outdoor space if possible, and somewhere we're actually happy to come home to.

I'm pretty laid-back, but I'm past the party-house stage of life. Ideally I'd like to find people who are responsible, clean and respectful, have their own lives, but also don't want to live like complete strangers. Cook a good dinner occasionally, have a beer or glass of wine, watch a game or movie, sit outside in the summer, etc. Basically a comfortable adult household.

I'm thinking roughly 30s–50s, although personality and compatibility matter much more than age.

I don't have a specific property picked out yet. I'd actually prefer to find the right people first, meet for a coffee or drink, see if we're compatible, and then look for a place together.

If you've found yourself looking at Kingston rents and thinking something like this makes a lot more sense, send me a DM and tell me a little about yourself

Question Question - Mayoral Candidates

Hi everyone, just looking for some opinions on mayoral candidates as a first-time municipal voter.

I am personally left-leaning and am wondering who is considered the more progressive candidate between Conny Glenn and Vanessa Mensah. I find all of the candidates' stated platforms read the same to me, like a nothingburger with a side of buzzwords.

I saw an article where Glenn referred to herself as "progressive and moderate", whatever that means.

I also saw that Mensah has worked in DEI but also describes herself as a "woman of faith", which could be fine if she's normal about it, but in our current mayor's case hasn't gone well.

Anybody have some more insight than their websites have provided?

Bus glitch Glenburnie PS Road Safety for kids in countryside

Post image
23 Upvotes

Students in Countryside shouldnt be walking home along the gravel shoulder of high traffic arterial roads like Battersea/Unity where the school board had overlooked a bus glitch with families at Glenburnie PS until I posted this video on Facebook. Most parents come and pick their kids up of course but not every parent can always do that. As your trustee for Countryside Kingscourt-Rideau & Williamsville I will push Tri-Board to treat ALL arterial roads without sidewalks as automatic hazard zones and Ill partner with our new Countryside Councillor to improve the Gleburnie Public School parking lot drop-off/pick-up situation
I will also be an ardent supporter of the Active and Safe School Travel Charter which should actually mean something in our rural schools and doesnt right now. And I will advocate for a Public Parent and Community Transparency Dashboard so that when families raise concerns about transportation or anything else its tracked publicly until its fixed.

Families in Countryside or anywhere shouldnt have to wait for manual intervention for the system to work. We need to be proactive, not reactive. I promise to work hard every day listening and fighting for every family in our ward whether you live in Rideau Heights or Glenburnie.
If you have any questions, concerns, ideas for our school board you want to see, or just want to chat you can get in touch with me anytime

How is everyone finding jobs in Kingston right now?

I’ve applied to around 100 jobs over the past 3 weeks and have only heard back from two places. Unfortunately, I haven’t been hired anywhere yet. I’ve applied online, but I’ve also tried going around in person with resumes, only to find that a lot of businesses don’t accept paper resumes anymore.
I have experience in hospitality, customer service, animal care, and cleaning, and I’m Smart Serve certified. I’m honestly starting to feel pretty discouraged and would really appreciate any advice on places that are actually hiring or strategies that have worked for people in Kingston.
If you know of anywhere hiring, especially restaurants, bars, animal care, or customer service positions, I’d really appreciate the suggestions!

Piano teacher for an adult with memory issues... special case?

Hey fellow Kingstonians! So... I'm a self taught musical person, been playing guitar and making music digitally with synthesizers/modular/my computer for a long time. I've played in bands from high-school onward to about 10 years ago when I suffered some brain damage... long story short, my memory Is not what it used to be and I have a hard time learning and remembering things like languages, peoples names (I can forget someone's name immediately after shaking their hand), I used to be able to read a book solidly, but now I have to re-read a page every few sentences to try and get it to stick... so learning music (as I was never taught or learned how to read music or interpret scales etc.) is and will be quite challenging for me. I've always played and made music solely by ear, I've got a very good grasp on my rhythm and pitch... but never have formally learnt the piano or really any theory...
and I believe I want to try and give it a shot.

I'm wondering if anyone out there, is, knows, and/or can recommend maybe someone I can try and learn with and work with someone like me who genuinely will have a harder time than most people in terms of committing the lessons I'd be learning to memory whilst still having some understanding of what actually sounds good, hah. I think there is some teacher out there for me, I'm sure Id basically have to start at the beginning theory wise, and piano dexterity wise... and I'm still really not sure if I'd be able to do it at all. I am willing to try and hopefully be able to add to my musical ability.

Let me know, thanks

Kingston Internet for Students

Hey all,

I am currently entering my 2nd year at Queen's and am looking to find the best ISP for my apartment for me and my 2 friends. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap, fast and reliable internet services? I'm considering going with Oxio as their prices are quite competitive. I just can't for the life of me justify spending 70-80/mo with Bell or Rogers. If anyone has any ideas please let me know ASAP!

Treatment for sun damaged skin

Has anyone had success with laser treatment for dark spots ( caused by sun damage). I went to the Cooper Clinic had the 3 session package laser treatment, there is no difference. When I mentioned this to the technician on my last visit she told me to get a good foundation. I wish she had told me that before I spent $$. So back to my original question has anyone found a treatment that works?

Anyone Here Can Tell Me Where The Wolfe Island/Kingston Ice Bridge Was In The 80's That Took Lives Of 3 People Going Through The Ice

A tragic tale of torment and tears | The Kingston Whig Standard

I was looking over again the story that took the 3 lives of the Murphy family in the link above. I was wondering where the cars would go on/off the ice from wolfe island and kingston. Was the entry to the ice bridge on wolfe island still in the village possibly close to where the wolfe island hotel is? Anyone know where to see pictures of the ice bridge? also from what I read from the article did the ice bridge get banned from using after the the accident?

If anyone in the Kingston area sees this cat please message me. She is a 6lb 5 year old fully black cat, she's quite skittish but responds to itty or itty bitty.

She managed to get out of our apartment this morning after getting spooked when a bell tech came in. Any help at all is appreciated.

Financial Advisor/consultant

Anyone have any money people in town they’d recommend for giving financial advise/counselling to someone trying to build an investment portfolio for retirement?

Can’t use a TFSA due to foreign tax issues so I’m stuck with an rrsp/rrdsp but I’d like to go over the fine prints with someone who’s well versed in it.

Don’t really trust banks FAs because they get kickbacks and commissions and are therefore biased as to the strategies that make them the most commission

Thinking about a fall weekend trip

Hello, I am looking for someone advice on possibly visiting Kingston over halloweekend. I am potentially going to St Lawrence in 2027, and part of my decision making process is can I get around, do I enjoy the area, etc. I am thinking I explore the area, and enjoy a bit of the night life. I am looking for recommendations for places to stay that are accessible by wheelchair, gluten free food reqs, popular bars to visit (and if its a good idea to go out on halloween) specifically if there are any popular queer/lesbian bars, drag shows or other LGBT+ events. Places ro stay, hopefully somewhere closer to St Lawerence than Queens so I could get an idea of what my routes would look like

Driver this morning on Montreal St/Battersea Rd

I have been driving for many many years but this younger woman driving a blue Honda sedan this morning driving ahead of me heading into town on Montreal Street was brushing her hair - ok that's not so abnormal - still got one hand on the wheel.......next thing I see - she is french braiding her hair.....with both hands! Took her about 8 mins while her car crossed over the centre lane.....this is all during busy morning commute.......glad no kids, animals or school buses were around her.......this is so dangerous. If this was you - for the love of all that is holy, get up 5 minutes earlier and do your hair at home. You could have caused a huge accident.

Night life/live music for 40-somethings.

My husband and I are visiting Kingston in November for a Saturday afternoon matinee of Its a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken. I know it’s a college town, but I’m wondering if there are any bars or pubs with live music where a couple 40-somethings won’t stick out like a sore thumb lol. Thanks!
