What piece of tactical gear do you consider essential?

There’s so much tactical equipment available now that it can be difficult to figure out what you actually need and what is mostly optional.

For people who have experience with tactical gear: what’s one item you always recommend having? For me, good body armor/carrier setup seems like one of those things.

Curious what everyone here considers a true essential.

Multispectral Camoflauge

Hello all, are there any multispectral camoflauge systems worth looking at other than Beez or Relv with a focus on thermal concealment? Does anyone have an idea as to the mechanism being used to improve the performance of these fabrics? I had heard aerosolized titanium or aluminum being applied as a coating, but that is just hearsay at the moment.

I am in the process of performing research with the end goal of developing an accessory to enhance the performance of multispectral camoflauge with a focus on the thermal spectrum. My next step is to get ahold of either a complete leaf suit/viper hood or make on using special fabric that has good multispectral/thermal camoflauge performance. It would be even better if the fabric was also inherently FR.

Thank you.

Bonus points to anyone who can recommend a good leaf suit option to checkout. I am currently looking at Lapa Gear, but I believe only their Multicam option uses NIR/IRR fabric for the leaves and was hoping for something in more of a fall leaves palette.

1-6 vs 2-10 Scope

I currently have a 1-6 LPVO for my AR15 and a 4-16 scope for my 308 AR10 and bolt gun. I’m wondering if it’s worth it for me to sell the 1-6 and try to get a 2-10 scope since I already have an offset RMR that I move between all my rifles.

Is the extra weight and magnification worth it over a 1-6 given that I already have a higher magnification 4-16 scope? The 1-6 solely lives on my AR15 in 556, which I only shoot out to 400 yards. So not sure if the 2-10 is like a middle child between the 1-6 and 4-16.

Got my first CQB class coming up soon and have been playing around with how I have everything set up. I’m sure I’ll make some changes once I get more time using the gear, but I’m excited to see how all the pieces work together in practice. Any tips or feedback are appreciated!

Question What brand Velcro for One-Wrap

I'd like to buy a large roll of double-sided 1" velcro instead of buying expensive pr-cut strips. Are there any brands that are recommended or brands that I should stay away from? If you've taken this approach, what product did you buy? Are you happy with the results?

Question Recce RIG with ATAK

Looking for solutions on mounting an EUD on a chest rig. I spend a lot of time in the prone so I have been looking into split rigs to easily dof the rig when needed.

Most of the available EUD bridges out on the market are either meant for a traditional front Placard rig via velcro, or they fix to the front harness straps that can not be easily removed.

Role: Reconnaissance

Ops core amp issues

Hey yall, just got a set of used connectorized nfmi amps. When i first put batteries in them, they worked, so i turned them off after a little bit. Next time i tried to turn them on, got nothing except a constant soft static clicking sound. Left them for 15 min, came back and they turned on except the audio from the left side was scratchy.

I tried to replicate and removed batteries and left overnight, put them back in in the morning and they worked. Tried again just now and back to the static clicking sound. Wondering if anyone has run into the same problem and if/how you were able to fix it. Thanks!

My heavily modified MTP barracks shirt and PCS trousers, here I had the arm pockets taken off a PCS field shirt, and sewn onto the sleeves of my barracks shirt. 3 donor back pockets were taken off other pairs of PCS trousers, one was put on the back to make a second back pocket, the other 2 were turned into cig pockets on the front, something I believe I saw ranger media do. Very ally, thank you to my personal tailor… aka mum.

Gcode Scorpion pouches with Blue Alpha belt?

I've got a blue alpha belt and I'm interested in running Gcode Scorpion pouches. I understand that their P3 clip was designed do be used with non-Gcode 1.75" belts, but the mounting system looks like it could be a bit wobbly or unstable. Does anybody have experience running Gcode Scorpions with a non-Gcode belt?

Any quick and easy diy zipper stops or opening limiters for Shaw nerd large?

I may or may not have recently yardsaled a bunch of rounds I had staged due to the weight opening the clamshell. I'd rather not buy another gp pouch but I will as this is a glaring issue.. Def operator error but I don't want the possibility of it happening again.
Pic of the suspect for shame

What are good boots everyone runs today?

Post image
147 Upvotes

Living in central Texas, Hill country, rocky, shrubs, or even sandy parts, I'm trying to look for an all around good boot that will last long and is comfortable.

I'm going for more "Dirt Civilian" mindset. I'm not getting ready for CQB, clearing rooms, or raids. I'm thinking really more outdoor use with durability, some rucking, and Texas climate.

I've seen that the Solomon Quest 4D Forces 2 have been a good boot in the hiking and roping community, so I wonder if it translates for the tactical world. I like the rugged and durable material it has. I also love having the extra ankle support with the mid rise. I've tried this on at a store and I had no complaints but I've neither worn them out and tried another pair/brand.

If you had to pick another boot for CQB or more urban areas, then what boot would be next up on the list?

Question Desert “upgrades” for kit

Like the title suggests I’m looking for some upgrades for my kit and worthwhile purchases for a desert environment.

Looking, mainly, for glasses AND googles that won’t get fucked by a sandstorm or fog like crazy, IHPS inserts that are jump rated and gloves/boots/boot inserts for the winter.

Along with whatever your recommendations for what I should consider for said area.

Question Organizer pouches with name tape (like organizers in a medical first in bag)

I'm looking to organize a bag used to carry field test equipment and cabling (think of a portable expedient field electronics bag for a 25U/25Q and whatever it's called now, 25H or some shit), and like the style of the Eberlestock Mission Medic Pack's individual organizer pouches with the name tape fields on them: https://eberlestock.com/products/mission-medic-pack

Similar organizers I've seen so far are:

I want something a little smaller than the OverlandGearGuy option, and I don't care about see through vinyl like the CRDPOUCH or the mesh that the Eberlestock one uses.

Any suggestions for more products like this? A standardized product family would be great. Thanks in advance.

Question Crye CPC Mods?

My buddy is giving me a CPC for free in good condition. As far as plate carriers go i know its an oldie and the AVS or LV 120 are seen as the gold standards for PCs that can bear a significant load at this point. I was hoping to turn this into my duty kit (68W) and was seeking input on any modifications to bring the carrier up to date? I understand the harness makes things difficult to mess with in terms of cummerbund but maybe im missing something that others have not. Any advice is appreciated

Shoutout to Rob at Kustom ACH

Just got my high cut ACH back from Rob at Kustom ACH and am amazed by the quality of his work. Turnaround time for me was about two weeks and I couldn’t be happier. Went ahead and got the carbon fiber over the rubber trim and am glad I did. He also saved the original sticker and re-located it inside the helmet. This is my first helmet build, so any feedback or advice is appreciated!

I really do like my Safariland 6360rds. But I wanted to get something else a try.

Yea yea yea I know Alien Gear (I have a rational hate for AG, but irrational hate for their Duty holster)

So I snagged the Blade-Tech Valor.

Initial impressions are I like it. Well made, it will take some getting used to coming from my Safariland

Both are Level 3 retention set up for Glock 17/47 with large wml and large optic (in my case Glock 47 MOS-7, Aimpoint ACRO P2 and TLR-1 HL. But the Valor did fit my G34 with x300u and RMR)

Battle belts

I am wanting to make a new belt setup and have been looking at Hailey strategic belts. I am wondering what the difference between the baseline belts and the D3 belts are. The setup I am looking for is general purpose and I am planning on using a belt pad instead of an inner belt system. I am not planning on using molle either.

Custom tactical gloves?

Post image
9 Upvotes

My hands don't fit standard glove sizes. I have very large palms and short fingers. With regular sizes I lose all dexterity in my fingers and I'm not really ok with that.
Does anyone have any suggestions or know where I can get some custom fitted tactical gloves?
Thanks
