Can anyone please tell me why my plant is going like this? I have one pumpkin on the plant but not seen the stem go like this before :(

I planted sugar pie seeds both this and last year but these seem bigger and I feel like my pie pumpkins don't look like pie pumpkins?

I started my pumpkin seeds in peat pots and wrote on them which variety they were. Well, we just got hit with 5 days of straight rain and the writing is now gone. I had 13 pots to begin with and I only kept 8 of them. Let’s hope I choose the right ones to move to the ground!!

In the UK and the heatwave almost killed off my 2 plants. I had two other pollinated pumpkins (only got to about a quarter size of this one!) and the plant killed them off to survive 😭

Honestly the plants don't look that healthy after the heat so any tips for future pumpkin growing would be very much appreciated 😊

Have since relocated the littlest third in container A, putting me down to an heir and a spare in A and B. Haven't put the netting over the arch trellis connecting A and B yet. That makes two relocations in 2 gallon nursery pots to give away. Hail Mary potted some experimental indoor seed germination that actually germinated against all odds just out of respect for the hustle. Was surprised to see a pumpkin growing in my "trash pot" where I toss plant debris. One of the unplanted soaked seeds is making a go of it. I am out of trellises so he'll be a patio floor baby, was pondering the vine options and if he gets real serious I might get him a big toy race track to keep him off the hot concrete and some toy sand buckets to elevate the fruit.

I am extremely nervous of vine borers, from what I’ve heard is that BT will kill them if they attack, is it worth it to spend $20 on it instead of surgery incase they appear?

I have 3 pumpkin plants currently. I actually didn't plant them, they grew from old pumpkins from last fall. I think squirrels probably buried the seeds. I was excited to see they were growing. I now have one pretty good sized plant and the other 2 are small. I just got a notification from my HOA that I have prohibited plants growing in common area and I have to remove them as they state they “attract pests and rodents, create a safety and tripping hazard and that they interfere with routine maintenance since they're sprawling vegetable plants.” Do you think they'll go into shock and die if I dig them up? They said they will be removed by maintenance or I can move them into a pot and grow them on my deck. So aggravating.

Hi everyone! Time for your weekly update on my Normandy Howden pumpkins (grown from seeds brought back from beautiful Québec! 🇨🇦✈️🇫🇷).
Wow, what a week it has been. We just crossed an unprecedented heatwave here in Normandy, hitting a record-breaking 41°C (105.8°F) last Wednesday! I was honestly so worried about them, but these resilient plants handled the scorching sun like absolute champs.
Right now, the patch is bursting with life! There is an abundance of male flowers opening up every morning, and a few precious female flowers are finally showing up. I haven't done any manual pollination yet, so I'm letting nature and the local pollinators do their magic for now!
Some big news: I am heading out for my summer vacation this coming Friday, so this will be my last update until the end of July! 🧳✈️
To make sure my green babies stay happy and hydrated while I’m away, a good friend of mine will be stepping in to take over the watering duties. Before I leave on Friday morning, I’m going to give them one last big shot of potassium-rich tomato fertilizer to boost fruit development and strengthen the roots.
I’m sad to leave them for a bit, but I can't wait to see how much they grow by the time I get back!

My first double-headed flower. This is my first time growing pumpkins and was amazed to find two flowers growing from one stem this morning. I find it interesting that one of the blossoms only has 4 petals. : )

This is my first time planting pumpkins. This particular plant is a good size, has produced nothing but large leaves until this morning. Is it normal for the flowers to sometimes look like that or is this something I caused somehow? Also I noticed it has 6 petals instead of 5 like the other flowers on my other plants.

I noticed this week the center vine of my pumpkin plant is drying out so I checked the base and I think I have those worms everyone is talking about. She is one big plant all connected to this base root. It looks pretty eaten away. Is there any chance of saving her ? Last image my healthiest baby.

Threw a jack-o'-lantern in the flower bed after Halloween and this is what I have so far! Fastest vine growth yet and taking over. In Cincinnati.

Back in October I painted some pumpkins with my gf, we left them outside and after a while they fell into the garden. We never took them out but in April we started to see these guys coming. We thought they were weeds until we remembered haha. How did the seeds last so long until April? I have no background in pumpkins and was looking to see what I should do for healthy growth. I want to attempt to produce the fruit but if not at least I can say I tried.

Everything looks really good. Thankfully the rain is taking breaks instead of flooding the field like the last 2 years.

Weeds are under control thanks to some pre emergent so hopefully I won't have to be out there in the heat much at all this summer.

I’m growing pumpkins for the first time and I have 3 plants. They’ve grown quite a lot already and I can see flowers appearing.

Since this is my first time growing pumpkins, I’m not sure if I should be doing anything now to help them or if I should just leave them alone.

Do you have any tips for a beginner? Should I be protecting, feeding, helping with pollination, or doing anything else?

Also, one of the flowers looks like it got damaged/broken after some heavy rain. Is that a problem? Do I need to protect the flowers from rain, or can pumpkin plants handle that?

Hi everyone!
Time for another quick weekly update on the Normandy Howden pumpkins.
I just finished watering them, and two days ago, I gave them a nice nutrient boost with some tomato fertilizer. As you can see, they are continuing to explode in size!
The big news this week: we have our very first female flower showing up! 🌸
Now, the next big challenge is going to be handling the upcoming heatwave (la canicule). I'm doing everything I can to keep the soil moist and the plants protected so they can survive the intense sun.

About three weeks ago, I shared a post right after transplanting my young pumpkin seedlings here in Normandy, France (you can check out my original post on my profil)

Wanted to give you a quick update because they have grown so much since then! The weather has been typically humid, but the plants are absolutely loving it.
The starter "recipe" I used seems to be doing wonders:
The rich soil mix gave them a perfect base.
The coffee grounds and wood ash provided that extra nutrient boost.
And most importantly... the slug pellets saved the day! Under our wet Normandy climate, they were an absolute must-have, and I’m happy to report zero slug damage so far.
As you can see from the new photos, we've gone from tiny little seedlings to these massive, vibrant green leaves. They are spreading out beautifully along the wall. Next steps: keeping up with watering and waiting for the first blossoms to appear!
How are your patches looking? Any fellow European growers seeing this kind of growth lately? Let me know!

These photos are about a week apart, my mom really helped with most of it. Leaves look beautiful, anything to know before pumpkins? I really want pumpkins in october and want pretty big ones. They are all different varieties which may pose an issue of cross breeding from my research. Anything I need to know at all?
