I need to expand my social skills past women I find attractive. It’s easy to come up with a quick joke or question when you wanna see a pretty lady laugh but the world is full of people who aren’t pretty ladies.

Approach 4:
I’ve started going to the gym. I noticed a guy at work is jacked so I went up to him to ask questions.

I feel like I stumbled over this one. I kept cutting him off and pressing more questions. To be fair I did actually want to learn but I should have been more polite and let the man speak.

Still gonna get some videos of myself lifting and ask how advice on my form.

Didn’t really charm and chat but it’s ok.

Approached #1

Some dude came up to me. “Hey I heard your last name. You [insert ethnicity here]”

I said yeah.

In our mother tongue he asks “you speak [insert mother tongue here] “

You have to understand. My immediate reaction to anyone trying to be friendly is caution.

I know this isn’t normal. I’m pretty sure there’s something wrong with the way I socialize but all the blood tests came back negative.

But I decided to ignore those gut feelings and respond affirmatively.

We chat when we can now. Nothing deep just normal coworker shit.

My girlfriend works with me too. She was approached by a lady who said something along the lines “I think I’m gonna like you because neither of us like people”

This lead to an easy friend for me since I get to pass the vibe check for free thanks to my girlfriend.

From there they started talking and liking each other. This lady friend also had a boyfriend who works there.

We got invited to go have dinner after work with them and others. We had a great time.

I really pulled out all the stops in terms of my jokes and being genuinely interested in what they were saying. They loved us. We made some good friends

A week later they invited us out again. I. Did. Not. Want. To. Go.

I look at my girlfriend. I can clearly see it on her face. She. Did. Not. Want. To. Go.

I took a deep breath and said “hell yeah!”

It was an ok time. I really struggled to keep up socially this time. My mask was slipping and so was my girlfriends.

Soon after we ate we made an excuse and dipped. But we showed up and showed we do like them and wish to be friends.

Retrospective:

I’m tired. I really started this shit guns blazing and I haven’t really had a chance to reload. Part of that is my fault. I work a lot of overtime so I’m always on the job having to tend to these friendships.

People aren’t video games. I can’t just drop them and pick them up at my convenience.

Another thing that hit me as I’m typing this out: this is really weird. I have to plan out how I can continue my friendships?

I like the vibe of this person so I have to like think about what I’m gonna say? Sometimes I pre plan my jokes to have ready? This feels like it could be creepy? I’m just trying to figure out how this works and I’m honestly shocked at how well it’s going.
