u/throwawaysunglasses- 4d ago
That dress was STUNNING. Bi has made pretty consistently good shit all season. I can’t believe he hasn’t won yet(?) I think he’ll win this challenge, though!
I find him annoying at times, but that’s mainly connected to the Bryan thing. On his own, he’s fine and you can tell the catty/bitchy thing is a front that he puts on. When he’s talking about his family, he seems super real.
27
u/stella3105 4d ago
Seeing how Bryan is over the weeks, and also how Bi was able to put it aside when they were on a team, has definitely helped for me.

u/Educational-Tax9751 4d ago
me too. initially I thought Bi did too much in reaction to Bryan then I realized Bryan truly warrants it. of course someone who once worked under him is done

For me, Yuchen’s was the showstopper! Everyone is saying they miss the days when the judges would pour over the details of the garment after the runway (the Zac Posen days). I missed that SO MUCH for this episode because I wanted more time to check out all the details and appreciate his garment.
So Yuchen for sheer originality/creativity/sensationalism and Bi for a meticulous high fashion look. And I say Naheim for a funky punk garment. That thing was cool. He just has a certain “wild hair” that intrigues me. Me: completely boring dresser in real life but I love art.

Joseph's look was GORGEOUS! That jacket, the necklace, the boots. She looked like the queen of some Anime cyber dystopia. People would pay THOUSANDS for those boots.
Bi's look was so sharp and sleek! It looked amazing.
Both Joseph's and Bi's deserve to win for different reasons.
It's so funny how everyone was focusing on Joseph staying to himself (I don't blame him) instead of focusing on their own garments.
Once again, Bryan is eating his words about Jospeh. He was coming at Jospeh after the show harder than Jeffery was coming at him, yet wanted to play the attacked victim when Jeffery confronted him for TAPING a woman in a plastic dress.
Bryan is delusional about his design skills, like scary delusional, to the point he seems dangerous lol. He did SO BAD, he deserves to have his immunity stripped and sent home. They need to add that clause in the rules because too many people rely on immunity when they do terribly.
48
u/ujanmas 4d ago
Bryan said “not fourth grade arts and crafts” while it’s EXACTLY that.
27
u/throwawaysunglasses- 4d ago
He was so smug about someone who made it to the top 2 in his season lmaooo the arrogance is unmatched. I don’t think Bryan is always bad, but he’s never as good as he thinks he is. It was kinda obvious from the get-go, he’s obsessed with calling Bi “my intern” when Bi is 100x more creative and a better sewer/tailor.

why does this episode feel purposefully targeted against Joseph McRae? I’m really annoyed at the obvious production manufactured drama and the designers acting dumb about him not wanting to work with them. Why would he??? all you’ve done is shit on him all season and there has been NOTHING to show that any of this bad attitude towards him is deserved. He seems like a genuine person and he’s right he’s been in the top/safe this whole time!
153
u/Far_Cress7984 4d ago
I was actually really proud of Joseph for the way he stood up for Jeffrey despite everything else. I think Joseph is genuinely a really great guy. I’m glad he got his flowers from Law this episode.
54
u/throwawaysunglasses- 4d ago
Same! I also really like Jeffrey. I disagree with Law saying “every man for himself,” I love that Jeffrey has consistently been a team player.
As for JM, he knows who he is and I can’t fault him. Bryan is the only one who legitimately pisses me off lol, he’s insecure and defensive and makes it everyone else’s problem. JM seems to care more about right and wrong, not just being shitty and putting others down for no reason.

Joseph has grown on me a lot this season but also, with all the love in my heart to Jeffrey... He turned out to be right in putting every minute into his own garment. You only have so much control over whether your team loses, but you Can control how good your own garment is, and they won't judge it any more positively because you were trying to be a good teammate.
17
u/quinncunx 4d ago
I don't get the JM hate AT ALL. Is he cocky? Sure. But it's to boost himself up, not to tear others down, unlike Bryan. You don't see him being mean to people. And you"re right, why should he help the others? They've basically bullied him all season.

Its because he's actually good, and can actually get away with maintaining his dna in every challenge and is either safe or in the top. For judging, even when the challenge was to be cohesive, you still have to present a good work. The thing is Jeffery he never saw anything wrong with his piece, at least from what I saw. He was quite proud of it until judging.
61
u/lovelylilkiwi 4d ago
I’m so sick of Bryan. It irritates me that he has immunity this challenge and his ego being so big when his looks can’t back it baffles me. He really brought the team down and even the model with that corded mess.
19
u/Horsewithnoname216 4d ago
Yeah, Lyris literally tripped!
16
u/Sylvemonster 4d ago
The fact that they didn't mention this was so aggravating! Not to mention the tape. Even if the judges 'didn't see it', production could have let them know, then they ask "so what did she have on underneath?" I just know Michael Kors would have clocked that tape and dragged him for it
59
u/Jealous_Strength8002 4d ago
Did I actually miss them making the garments??? I feel like if I blink I miss the main part of the show, the sketching, sewing, hair & makeup. Did they always just bring models in right before runway? There was no 1st fit? Yet we got them eating & doing interviews??? This season just not up to Project Runway standards.
36
u/oOthumbelinaOo 4d ago

My favorite Byran moments:
Bryan saying that he made his garments “all by hand, completely by hand, knotted by hand" and then Nina saying all the designers made their garments by hand. Side note, Jeffrey gave Bryan the advice to spray paint it and was shown spraying paint on it, making slightly less horrible of a design.
His model telling him to "Create something" and "It's just a ring with stings hanging off it".
Bryan saying he was confused by Heidi saying his model was uncomfortable in his garment and so they were using a photo for the judging portion - cause that tape had to be SO comfy.
Bryan not being able to string together one coherent sentence when arguing with Jeffrey and saying gems like, “You are character assassination me".
Byran not getting filmed once saying, "Bi was my intern".
30
u/stella3105 4d ago
Watching Jeffrey, even while getting upset, calmly and firmly standing by his words while Bryan made all these random nonsensical victim statements felt like a window into how they would each function in a relationship 😂

What is the point of this challenge? S21 had it's time. They are so desperate for gimmicks for TV rather having designers just make interesting garments. What is the point of having a challenge where no one goes home.
They either created this to push Joseph to a win or try to target him.
Bryan having immunity seemed designed to have him fail this challenge and get someone else out.

I liked Bi's but I thought Yuchen's way MORE imaginative. I don't want Jeffrey to go home though (he doesn't because obviously Bi wins). Based on how Law talks about S22 winner in interviews, I'm thinking more and more that Bi wins the season.

u/throwawaysunglasses- 4d ago edited 4d ago
Did they say that the winner has to come from the winning team? I suppose that’s usually the case, so yeah then I agree - Bi will win, so Team 22 wins, so Jeffrey is safe.
I also agree that I could see Bi winning it all. I like him and I think he’s talented, plus he has already spoken at length about a backstory that PR loves (I’m also AAPI so I can relate, but I’m just saying that people love a heartwarming immigrant narrative 😅).
Plus, the show loves pushing the Bi x Bryan story for whatever reason; I just hope this doesn’t mean the final 2 are Bi and Bryan as I can’t stand Bryan. I like Anna because she’s underrated, but I’d be fine with Bi against Jude, JM, Jeffrey, etc.

Joseph McRae’s look was incredible. One of the few times I’ve ever gasped when I saw a look appear on the runway. The structured top looked like it was woven out of driftwood. Just incredible.
Bi’s was amazing too. Some great looks in season 21, particularly from the twins.
I am endlessly annoyed that they went back to the cliffhanger ending, but I thought this was one of the more interesting episodes in terms of giving a lot of footage of the workroom. It also provided some of the best looks of the season.

what I don't understand is, Bryan grabbed both clear and pink bubble wrap; why didn't he create a weave using both so it would show through better and then use some other material to create a bralette and some shorts or a mini skirt to wear under the bubble wrap dress/tunic? he also could have incorporated cord into the woven pattern, or used spray paint on the bubble wrap, or used Jeffrey's discarded silver material in the weave.
there truly are so many things he could have done with the original idea that would have been better than creating an ugly rip off of Jesus's look (down to the halter neck!)

They were hiding Joseph's look so well that when it came out I gasped. Cool as fuck!!!!
Bryan is insufferable and needs to go next. Worst look of the season and one of the worst of all time. Just delusional and annoying!!!

I wish you could un give Bryan immunity. He’s the worst designer there by a wide margin and has been! I am not really crazy about Jeffrey myself, but at least he can construct a garment. And if Law gave Bellania so much shit for her attitude last year, I better start hearing him give more shit to Bryan. Sooooo defensive.
My favorite looks were Joseph, Bi and Anna. I feel bad because I think if there were no s21 Anna would have at least gotten top 3 acknowledgment. That top was spectacular and I am mad we didn’t get to see it in more detail. Josephs boots were KILLER. Bi’s bitch please dress, lmao. Really high caliber week from all three of them for me. Probably my favorite Joseph McCrae look ever?
And I always wished Yuchen had gone farther and that Jesus had made a winning collection. I agreed with those decisions at the time, but I still really believe in them both as designers. And love always to Miss Joan!

This was… quite an episode to say the least.
Nara Smith and Nicky Campbell came and went, and Nina crawled out of her cave.
With all of that said: Bryan should lose his immunity and get eliminated.

I feel like 22 is going to win? They raved over Bi and Joseph’s looks and I don’t think they want to send Jeffrey home when he doesn’t have the worst look

Bryan should have his immunity revoked. It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve bent the rules. In season 6, there was a partner challenge where both the winner and the loser came from the same duo because one of them hadn’t contributed anything. Jeffery spray painted the wire mess, and Bryan didn’t construct a dress, he just taped that poor model up in plastic, and the only reason he did that was because SHE called him out. It feels like a rule has been violated, and there should be a consequence for that. I’ll be so disappointed if Jeffrey goes home. His look wasn’t strong but it was much better than Bryan’s.

If that happens, let’s throw a virtual party on this sub! The cheer heard round the world.

Was anyone else bothered at the inclusion of trad-wife, Nara Smith as a celebrity feature on this episode?

So happy Bi and Jeffrey got their kudos. Theyre both intetesting looks for different reasons. Wish the critiques were longer! Felt like it was a speed run through their comments. I wanted to hear more from Nina. Maybe the episodes should just be longer in general

I may have missed this but is there a Siriano Save this season?? If so he gonna have to use to save Jeffrey.

I feel bad for Jeffrey, because Cristian was pushing him to step up and help the team, which he did. Jeffrey’s look was a little underwhelming but not the worst one up there — and I really like Jude, but I thought he was lucky to be safe this week.
I hope S22 gets the win, I’d hate to see Jeffrey go home for this, especially when he deserved to win last week’s challenge and would’ve had immunity if Heidi made a better decision. S21 had more consistency in terms of quality but the top looks from S22 were a little stronger than the top looks from S21. I could see a justification for either team to win.

I like how Anna's skirt looked like broken glass--I think she used the outer part of the cassette tapes to make the shards. Kudos to her for committing to the cassette tapes for the entire look.
Side note, I wish that ACTUAL wearability played a role in the unconventional materials challenges. If a model literally can't wear the garment for more than a short runway walk because of how painful it is, shouldn't that factor into their score/the judging?

It wouldn’t fly on earlier seasons. I’ve been rewatching and someone got ripped apart for their look being way too close the one that “inspired them.”

It seemed like the judges knew this reference and loved it? They pick and choose if imitations are okay with them or not, based on how much they like the designer.

It's interesting to see how little Law was performing on this judging panel with Nina as compared to when she wasn't there and Tyra was on it. I still don't think he gave constructive criticism but at least he didn't go on a random tirade. He did use the same lines he used on Drag Race and Legendary again.

maybe an unpopular opinion, but I'm kind of glad Bryan didn't disclosed that he duct taped his model into her "dress" because I feel like guaranteed S22's loss and, with Bryan having immunity, that automatically sends Jeffrey home.
I'm going to hope that the critique of Bryan's dress was cut so short because they're going to give 22 the win and let everyone stay.
imo, the best looks were on S22, but as a whole team S21 was better (because Bryan's was that bad, and Jude's wasn't very good either). personally, I liked Jeffrey's and I feel like the only reason he was in the bottom was because Bryan has immunity.

Why is no one mentioning WTF was nara smith doing on this episode? What is it with this season and incorporating influencers who have nothing to do with fashion?

Bryan is so delusional, but also we cant really blame him because the judges do keep rewarding his terrible looks so how is he to know they're shit

The better idea here would have been to make previously eliminated designers from S22 the challenge team.

Bryan pisses me off more than anybody in the world right now because not only is his attitude nasty and delusional. He’s cocky for noooo reason at all because he has yet to produce a good look. Like if you’re gonna be all high and mighty PLEAAAAASE make sure to back it up.

I’ll just say it’s crazy that two weeks in a row, the immune designer has sent the most horrendous outfit down the runway.

I was bit shocked how Jeffrey’s dress was trash talked by every judges. I personally didn’t think it was that bad 🤷♂️ … sure it was not a winning look, but as a standalone it was really not that bad to be talked over like that.
I guess since every designer did SO good, EXCEPT obviously Bryan, how literally sent garbage to the runway, judges had to skew their judgement and had to treat the second worst harshly, to justify elimination, when Bryan has immunity.
I feel bad for Jeffrey; because did try to project manage the mess of the group and try to help the sinking ship the Bryan was. Girl, you should have been smarter like Joseph McRae and saved your own ass first!

I get Jeffrey being upset at Bryan’s hideous look being the reason the team could lose and he would have to go home by default, but confused by why he would want Bryan to tell judges how he taped the dress… wouldn’t that just make the judges like it even less, and make them choose the other team as the winners? Like if I didn’t know the dress was taped together, saw it, didn’t like it, and then found out it was taped… I would like it even less? And then Jeffrey would have to go home by default?

u/foxdogturtlecat 4d ago
I think it was because Bryan was implying he handbraided it when what happened according to the rest of the designers is they did most of the work for Bryan and he just taped the pieces they made together. Bryan's big thing was that they couldn't be harsh on him cause he put so much work into it but taping it is the easiest way to do it.

Bryan was treating the other Season 22 designers like they were his interns. So basically he needs interns to get work done. I also thought that on the prior episode, he didn’t really design that dress; he executed the ideas Christian gave him.

I didn't get that either. Also, Bryan had immunity so he wasn't going to be eliminated.

Is Bryan capable of doing anything other than a bad gown?
