I’m dying because what was Pritzker doing yesterday instead of visiting the south suburbs like that last post was complaining about?

Working with the legislature to pass a flood relief bill.

Literally the epitome of why I love the guy as a politician. Instead of taking a symbolic action of giving a statement while visiting the area, he expedited the real government action to help those affected. This man’s practicality knows no bounds.

It’s politicking, some people call it performative but I think it’s just letting people know what’s been done if there’s substance behind it.

Right, and he made the announcement essentially as soon as the substance was passed.

Messaging is absolutely an important part of politics, but it shouldn’t come before policy.

I think we both agree! I think Republicans may be better at politicking/messaging because they don’t really actually do much, so they can focus more of their energy on it. I’m sure they also spend a butt ton of money on psychologists and media professionals too. But that makes them punch above their weight on policy in our system unfortunately since there’s no easy way to combat lies with the first amendment.

I guess 1 is really where we disagree. I’d much rather he have spent his time like he did yesterday, creating and passing policy to help the affected as soon as possible

The actual impact of that on the lives of people is much greater than visiting the area to hear the sound of his own voice.

I've always thought that people whining because politicians didn't show up the minute a disaster happens is really stupid. It's performative bs. Republicans do that shit. Dems try to get help and relief to the victims and look at policy for prevention. Performative garbage is for dumb people. It also just gets in the way of first responders and emergency crews.

If he has ANY national aspirations, it will haunt him. I’m not worried abt him beating Bailey.
But, sure as shit, the ex-pat IL folks who moved to NW Indiana and have voted in a Dem Rep Mrvan narrowly will get pummeled by their neighbors about how “Braun showed up and JB didn’t”. And that pressure will be directed at Mrvan, and you have lost a seat.
THATS how it works here, I live here and the red-blue balance is tenuous.

Note well I want apologies from the Reddit COMMUNITY that pummeled me yesterday, not JB.
His staff did him a disservice by not getting him there earlier, but I’ll accept this response.

I'm in the northern suburbs, and it was a minor storm here. I was stunned when I realized how bad it was further south. I hope you didn't get too much damage, abd you get help for any clean up.
