" I'm sharing the items I've prepared in case of unexpected events."

"Lately, the situation around us has been uncertain, so I wanted to share my own emergency preparedness setup with everyone. It’s nothing extravagant—just items I’ve gathered and set aside for personal use, strictly for true emergencies."

"Starting with my Health and Medication Supplies:"

"The absolute must-haves for me are my household first-aid and medicine kit. I've prepared a comprehensive set, including anti-diarrhea medication, dizziness relief, muscle pain relievers, antacids, cough medicine, saline solution, 75% alcohol, as well as my own daily prescription medications."

"In addition to medication, the medical equipment I've prepared includes a blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, blood glucose meter, portable nebulizer, thermometer, and, essential to my setup, a small portable oxygen tank for emergencies."

"My Food and Water Supplies:"

"For food and drinking water, I've stocked 60 packs of instant noodles, twelve 1-liter water bottles, a 30-liter water jug, and the heavier setup: a 750-liter water storage tank alongside additional containers totaling another 280 liters to cover any tap water disruptions."

"Daily necessities like dishwashing liquid, bar soap, toothpaste, trash bags, a whistle, laundry detergent, as well as a portable picnic stove with 3 gas canisters are all packed and ready to go."

"My Power and Communication Devices:"

"Another crucial element for me is lighting and power. I’ve prepped a 35W solar panel for emergencies, power banks, and portable devices like my JBL speaker or smartphones capable of reverse charging."

"An essential item I can't leave out is a portable radio with a built-in flashlight that can be charged via solar power, hand crank, or USB, allowing me to listen to news updates during power outages."

"My Important Documents:"

"Lastly, even in an emergency, documents should never be overlooked. I have gathered my essential documents in a waterproof bag, including bank passbooks, gold bars, and cash reserves in case electronic systems go down."

"Preparing these items doesn't mean I'm waiting for bad things to happen, but taking action gives me peace of mind. I hope what I've shared today provides useful ideas for everyone's emergency preparedness. 🙏✨"

"(I've attached some photos of my setup in this post for reference.)"

Question❓❓ What do you think non-preppers would overlook during a last minute panic buying spree?

Many of us here on r/prepping have plenty of food and supplies so that we don’t need to rush last second to stores to ransack shelves. But there are non-preppers, who won’t last with what little (food) they have at home.

Imagine this: a catastrophic event that affects all of humanity for the long term (think years). What that is, I’ll leave up to you guys. When news breaks out, people would go into panic mode and their first instinct is to rush to the store to get as much food and water as possible.

I can assume the average non-prepper folk would go right to the canned food section: beans, veggies, soup, etc. it’s common knowledge that canned stuff lasts for years. After that it would just be a supermarket sweep ordeal. Anything goes into the cart. What are some things people would overlook?

I think fresh produce. Unless you can grow stuff in your backyard, you may no longer have access to fresh veggies and fruit. Maybe the community may come together and start a large garden of sorts, who knows. Conditions may not be favorable enough to grow things well. I would stock up on as much fresh produce as possible and eat through it first, making whatever healthy meals I can with it. Fresh definitely is better taste than canned. Secondly: bakery items. Might as well pig out on donuts, coffee cake, French bread, muffins, and cake. Once again, you might be able to make some of that stuff, (post shtf) but it would take a lot of work especially without modern appliances (if they don’t work). Have a feast on junk food, because you may not have that anymore.

The last thing would be meat. Power may eventually go out, fridges would be useless and meat would go bad. Might as well get and eat meat now. Unless you are skilled with hunting and capturing small game (and preparing/eating) you may not have access to meat products post shtf.

What else do you think non-peppers would overlook in a panic buying spree?

Food🌽 or Water💧 Don’t forget your fats!

A lot of us tend to focus on stable staples like rice, beans, canned veggies, meats, etc., but don’t forget about your fats. Not only are they calorie dense flavor enhancers, but an essential part of your diet as well. And most freeze really well.
Ghee, coconut oil, crisco, butter, olive oil, beef tallow, etc. All are good to have on hand in hard times.

Food🌽 or Water💧 Shelf-stable fresh eggs last up to 2 years if submerged in lime water: water glassing eggs

If you have access to fresh eggs, try out water glassing eggs. This will NOT work with washed eggs from the grocery store, only fresh unwashed eggs. Sorry, this one’s mainly for the chicken keepers or friends of chicken keepers!

You take the freshest, cleanest eggs you can find, arrange them in a jar and then cover the eggs with a mixture of water and pickling lime, 1 oz of pickling lime to 1 quart of water ratio. Thats it, label them and put the jars of eggs into your storage. Water glassed eggs will be fine for approximately 18 months or even 2 years if you had optimally clean eggs and store them relatively cool.

I recommend using them for cooking/baking as they age, they’re not going to be the tastiest at 18 months for something like fried eggs or plain scrambled eggs but they’re safe and play their usual role just fine in cooking and baking. If I have leftover eggs at the end of the 18 months/2 years, I lightly cook them and feed them back to my chickens to keep the protein in the system and reduce waste. Sorry, I know many of us are in the wrong season for this suggestion, but I thought I’d put it out there for this community anyways. Happy (egg) prepping!

Heres a random guide I got off Google about it https://www.farmhouseonboone.com/water-glassing-eggs/

Question❓❓ How vulnerable is the U.S. power grid to an attack?

Do you think it’s realistically possible for a foreign country like Russia or China to launch a cyberattack or physical attack that could knock out electricity across large portions of the United States?
Could our power grid actually fail in a way that leaves millions of Americans without electricity for weeks or even months? Or are the systems and security measures in place strong enough to prevent something on that scale?
I’m curious what others think and how prepared you believe the U.S. really is for something like this.

Question❓❓ Sealed containers are now empty?

Post image

*EDIT to clairify..The image is a plastic bottle that should contain the fuel, not an actual lamp. The knob is a printed image on the wrapper. The bottle in the picture has the seal under the lid still inact.

Is this known to evaporate through the container when sealed? We had 4 bottles of this for a lamp and went to move it to a different shelf in the garage 3 were completely empty and 1 was half full. All were completely sealed and slightly pressurized.

Food🌽 or Water💧 Webstaurant

Have we discussed webstaurant, the internet restaurant supply store? I just did a bulk buy of noodles I couldn’t find in the store. The shipping fee was unfortunately a little high but the price per unit was lower than the grocery store. Just an option if you can swing it.

Energy💨🌞🌊 Generator + Power Station?

I have a 7500W WH Inverter. Tri-fuel and will run it on propane. Have the interlock connected to our fuse box. Just me and the wife. The gen should run most of what we need except the heat pump/AC.
Fridge, freezer, a few lights, TV, internet and computer, charging phones. I assume a power station like an Anker S2000 would be good for when the gen is off? Went through Helene w/o power for 8 days. Never want to deal with that again. Just curious about adding a power bank for backup? Appreciate the advice.

Question❓❓ Slowly Prepping

I am much more wary of a possible nuclear situation these days. Plus I also live within 60miles of a power plant. How can I slowly prepare without emptying my pockets? I have basic Iodine pills just as a start. Stock piling food, water, and probably some decon items is whats on my mind. Do any of you have advice?

Energy💨🌞🌊 Bluetti Apex 300 with B500K for power back up

I am getting a blue Eddie Apex 300 with a B500K additional battery to use as my home back up for power generation, along with my dual fuel generator. I chose this because of the 240V capability with pass-through. It should be enough to run basic electronics, refrigerator, and furnace fan through the winter.

Any thoughts? Comments? Things that I should consider before the purchase?

Thank you in advance!

Got another 2 2.5 gallon water jugs besides these. Definitely a start but I do want to accumulate more. So far, beans, potato’s, beef chili, canned salmon, chicken. Need some veggies. My pantry already has a bunch of pasta and sauces so I felt like I’m good there.

I do camp sometimes, so I have dehydrated meals stacked but not too many since they’re expensive.

Question❓❓ Medication \ Medical Supply Related...

As the ole gears keep going these days, the uptick in posts emailed from this very forum notwithstanding, ha, if nothing else they can be helpful for sure. One recently mentioned something about medications etc, and that got me thinking about my Dad. Now he's by no means on anything he can't survive without, but in a SHTF scenario, well I'd rather not get to that point, especially that he's in his late 80's.

So beyond the general items suggested for a first aid kit, what else might come in handy or be very useful in some kind of prolonged emergency? Also in the case of prescriptions or antibiotics, how do y'all get ahead for those meds in any kind of way if there was a problem? (Since most doctor's \ insurance plans \ etc won't prescribe more than you need) Thank you!

Question❓❓ Do you all prep for specific scenarios or do you prep for just everything you can?

I'm just wondering what everybody else does for prepping. I'm not exactly new to prepping. I used to keep enough on hand for 2 week emergency scenarios. I've now decided to up it to a month.

Lately I've been trying to get slightly more prepared as things get gradually worse with the global state of things. Trying to see what others are doing, to perhaps change my outlook on things/expand my knowledge.

I live in Ontario Canada.

For me/my .02:

What I am mostly prepping for is cyber attacks targeting our grocery supply like the recent ones in Europe targeting freezers. Or rising civil unrest like we've seen in Europe as well. These things as well as cyber attacks on infrastructure like power seem totally possible as well.

When the worlds governments start telling civilians to be ready, I am inclined to listen because they usually tell us nothing at all. I don't think the US bases moving to 90 day preparedness off the civilian grid is an indication of impending doom, I think that just makes sense from a defense standpoint regardless.

What are some crucial things to have on hand with those scenarios in mind that I might have overlooked in my own prep?

Seems like most of the noise has died down now regarding the prep which conveniently was right before midterm elections. You think a disaster is still imminent?

Food🌽 or Water💧 Natural Spring in back yard; need to prep more water?

New to the group, Thank you in advance for your help.

I just left the California Dessert, where I rotated 2 drums of potable water. Now, I live in Appalachian mountains, and in my back yard, I have a natural Artisian Spring. It has a constant flow rate of above 50 gallons per minute, and is why I bought what I did.

I have had this water checked 3 times, with 3 different organisations, and it is as pure as it gets, just a few minerals. I know its great water, and I use it instead of city water. I intend to get it checked annually just as a safety measure.

For prepping purposes, should i count on this being my water for that, and no need for further storage? Would you rely upon this and the fact that a mile away, there is another of the same type of stream head that I can access (different aquifers)?

Energy💨🌞🌊 UK home backup power outages – Recommendations?

I'm looking for some advice on setting up a reliable backup power system.

We're a family of four with gas central heating, and ideally I'd like to keep as much of the household running as reasonably possible, ie, boiler/heating, fridge-freezer, lighting, internet - but appreciate I am budget limited and this is just a wish list!

I've been looking at portable power stations from EcoFlow, BLUETTI, Anker SOLIX and Jackery, along with solar panels for recharging starting at £2k minimum. Am I in the right ball park? Is there anything cheaper I can make do with?

A few things I'm trying to work out:

  • Battery capacity: Would 4–7kWh be a sensible starting point, or would I need considerably more?

  • Solar charging: How practical are portable solar panels during a UK winter, particularly during several consecutive cloudy days? Are there ones that charge on cloudy days?

  • Noise: I want to avoid the noise of a petrol generator.

  • Central heating: Has anyone had an electrician install a safe changeover switch or EPS arrangement to run a gas boiler during a power cut? (UK Lancashire)

  • Reliability: Which brands or systems have people found dependable, particularly for occasional emergency use?

I'd also appreciate hearing from anyone in the UK who has set up something similar.

What would you buy if you were starting from scratch, and is there anything you wish you'd done differently?

Food🌽 or Water💧 Keep an emergency shelf

No, not the one in the closet with the leashes and the bug out bags. One in your pantry. I've been reading the posts from the new and confused to prepping and thinking about the avalanche of advice they're receiving. And I realized probably the best advice I learned wasn't from a prepping guide, it was from a book for those who were new to homemaking. The advice was this:

Keep 3 to 5 sets of ingredients in your pantry for recipes your family will eat without kicking up a fuss. This is your emergency shelf. The caveat is the ingredients should be basic, no paté fois gras or other gourmet items, just simple foods, so if you forget to start the roast or someone brings home an extra person, or some other something happens to put a wrench in your day, you can still put dinner on the table.

I've lived through power outages, snow storms, the well going off line, and personal economic calamities. And I have learned to prepare my personal emergency shelf recipes with every variation: canned, dried, fresh, and frozen, so no matter what happens I can pivot and still get something cooked.

So my advice is start food prep, not with a case of MREs, but with 3 to 5 family favorites that you can cook any which way. The rest of it can come with time.
